Are Wile E. Coyote and Ralph the Wolf, essentially the same character?
(Since the Looney Tunes shorts were orig. shown in theaters, I'll post the question here...)
I saw a bunch of Looney Tunes shorts today and this has always got me thinkin' things:
Are Wile E. Coyote and Ralph the Wolf (morning ralph, morning Sam) essentially the same frickin' character?

Essentially yes, though Ralph likes Sheep and Wile E. is Road Runner crazy.
Ralph (named after a Warner Bros. employee) has virtually the same character design as another Warners character, Wile E. Coyote—brown fur, wiry body, and huge ears, but with a red nose in place of the Coyote's black one. He also shares the same appetite, and persistent use of Acme Corporation products, but he covets sheep instead of road runners and, when he speaks, doesn't have the upper-class accent or the egotistical bearing of the Coyote. Another crucial difference is that of personality: Ralph does not have the fanatical drive of the Coyote in pursuing his prey, preferring to abandon his chase at the end of the working day.
Sam, by contrast, is a large, burly sheepdog with white or tan fur and mop of red hair that usually covers his eyes. He very rarely runs and tends to be sedentary in his movements. He does, however, possess effective strength to incapacitate Ralph with a single punch once he catches him.

Ah..the beautiful mysteries of the universe.
This sound like something the Animaniacs would ask a mountain top guru.

After reading the comments in this thread, I thought back to the campfire discussion in Stand By Me.
"Mickey's a mouse, Donald's a duck, Pluto's a dog, what's Goofy?"

That burning Goofy question was finally put to rest in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit".

"Ralph" is a one-off character played by Wile E. Coyote.
