DVD Talk review of 'Supercop'
I read David Walker's DVD review of Supercop at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=36120 and...
he mentions that there is no reason to upgrade from the 1998 1-disc release. Well my 1998 version in non-anamorphic. I just watched it a few weeks ago and had to manually stretch it to fit my TV. I'm assuming there was only 1 previous release in the US, so that comment in the review surprised me. I've been hoping for a better release and was excited when I saw this review, until I read that part and had to question it.

Yeah, the original Dimension release was non-anamorphic, so that alone would make this one worth the upgrade.
I think the most significant scene involved some drug use at the bad guy's mansion (it's later discovered that one of the girls by the pool died of an overdose). I also seem to remember a market scene that showed more of caged animals that were being sold for consumption. There were a couple of other small scenes, but I can't remember the details. The Criterion laserdisc had all the deleted scenes as a separate supplement. I was kind of surprised to find they weren't included here.

The original HK cut also had a completely different musical score.

I had seen all of Chan's films years before they hit the states and I honestly can't sit through any of the American versions. The new music scores always stink compared to the original and for me they are just not enjoyable compared to the Hong Kong versions.

It should, the Criterion LD included the Cantonese language soundtrack, and that had the original music. Then again, HK movie distributors have recently gotten into the habit of changing music for later releases of some of their films, so who knows what Dimension was given to work with here.
