Defunct Series You Would Most Like See Ressurrected?
What did you use to play that you could never get enough of? Be it the story and characters or just the gameplay or uniqueness.
Growing up, I was a Wing Commander junkie. I would think about it in class. I wrote a short story based around my character and my best friend (which might be fun to transcribe and share ). I would imagine a Drayman class transport coming to whisk me away to the Vega System (ala The Last Starfighter).
I upgraded systems for the sole purpose of playing the next game. My dad nearly shit himself when I first told him that WC2 required 10mb to install (we only had 40, stacked to ~60). I would do expanded/extended memory management of our 2mb card to get the optimal performance of a hand in the cockpit, speech, etc.
I lived the series from the first all the way through WC: Prophecy. All the Secret/Special missions. Privateer. Academy. You name it, I played it. I even got the special edition of WC3 that came in a movie tin with a t-shirt and other documentaries that my dad special ordered direct from Origin for Christmas.
I watched the USA Network cartoon series as a freshman in college. I was at the movie opening night and lamented how badly Chris Roberts could mess up his own creation.
At the end of WC: Prophecy, I knew it couldn't end there. I knew Christopher Blair's story wasn't over. But in the 12 years since, I have finally given up hope.
2 years ago when Wing Commander Arena was coming to XBLA, I was pushed over the edge to finally get a 360 only to try the demo and be utterly disappointed. I wanted to support it, hoping EA would revisit the series properly, but I just couldn't.
I would love to see this series revitalized. I would happily, once again, get a PC gaming rig capable of running the game to its fullest potential. There is a direct correlation in my history of when I got out of PC gaming entirely for a total hiatus until after college when I got a Gamecube and then turned into a console gamer exclusively - and it matches up perfectly with the demise of Wing Commander.

Wing Commander definitely, but the 2 that sprung to mind for me:
- Aerobiz
- King's Quest
Edit: Also:
- MechWarrior

Has to be a series? I'd still love for a Kid Icarus sequel to come out.
I also wish a non-online Phantasy Star series would resume. Or a tactics-based Shining Force game.

If it continued, it would be a series! So Kid Icarus, BG&E, and Eternal Darkness are all valid.

There's a ton of old adventure games I want to see resurrected. Quest for Glory, Monkey Island, Full Throttle, Leisure Suit Larry (not really counting the shitty ones being made now), Space Quest, Gabriel Knight...
Wing Commander is a great one.

Monkey Island would be my first choice. Or any other of the old Sierra style adventure games like Gabriel Knight, Phantasmagoria, or the "Quest" games.

A few old adventure games
Hero's Quest
Gabriel Knight
Those are my top two adventure game picks.
I also would like to see more Mechwarrior stuff. I remember the old box set i had with an isometric view. Damn good game.
Finally, some more set in the Dune universe. Give me a sequel to Dune 2000.
edit: And it goes without saying on Eternal Darkness. Hands down one of my favorite games ever.

I just wish they would make a Wing Commander collection that I can play on my computer.
Also, Shenmue. I still hold some small hope.

The original Donkey Kong trilogy (all subsequent games have been spin-offs, not part of the original series).

Frontpage Sports: Football Pro - I miss being able to create my own plays and watch them prosper or fizzle. PC gamers had the ability to change just about anything in the game, and I have fond memories of my old best friend and I printing out the draft roster and scouting players.
Power Stone - I loved this game (and the sequel) on the Dreamcast, and I think the Xbox 360 could use a game similar to Super Smash Bros.
Marvel Vs. Capcom - I know it comes down to rights, but these games were just way too much fun for us to not get any new ones.
More that I agree with that were mentioned above: Shenmue, Battletoads, King's Quest

I want Pirates! like the Commodora 64 version. I loved that game. And Tetris with Bombs (there was a PC version).

I'd love to see the Clock Tower series re-imagined with a Condemned-style gameplay/setting. The first Clock Tower for the PlayStation (Clock Tower 2 in Japan) was a simple point and click game, but still managed to be suspenseful in its mystery/slasher movie type feel. Few games to this day have managed to capture that feel of a killer chasing me while I have mere moments to figure out how to elude him. If you took the Condemned template and combined it with this game's 'escape dynamic' it would be scary as hell.
The next Clock Tower game changed the tone too much, making it supernatural instead of the original's serial killer-based approach. The later attempt to relaunch it (Clock Tower 3) improved the graphics and gave it more conventional gameplay, but it further took away the elements that made the first game (second in Japan) special. I'd love to see them go back to the realistic killer/murder mystery theme without the supernatural trappings, but in a modern game style.

Definitely Wing Commander and Monkey Island for me.
Would also like to see remakes of some classic C64 games (Bruce Lee, Airborne Ranger, Epyx Summer/Winter Games series, etc...).

Re: Defunct Series You Would Most Like See Ressurrected?
I borrowed the PSP Pirates version briefly and there was some real-time combat... was that the same in the C64 version? Because if I remember it was more RPGish in the C64 version and it had no real-time combat (mostly because the computers weren't good enough back then, I'd guess).
