The Fast and the Furious Trilogy - 3/24/09

Not sure where this is linked to, but I got it from a blu-ray.com thread:

The Fast and the Furious Blu-ray Trilogy Announced
January 26, 2009

Three more former HD DVD high-def exclusives will make their way onto Blu-ray Disc in March when Universal releases The Fast and the Furious Trilogy.

The March 24 release date is less than two weeks before Universal releases the fourth film in the series, Fast & Furious, in theaters. That film will likely find its way to Blu-ray in early fall.

Universal is hoping you'll see the fourth film theatrically and is dangling $7.50 worth of Movie Cash to see Fast & Furious in this set.

None of the first three Fast and the Furious films will be available on Blu-ray Disc outside of the box set. It is an all or nothing deal so if you want the first film then you have to shell out for the inferior sequels as well.

Each film will be presented in widescreen 1080p video and an upgraded 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio mix not found on the HD DVD versions. In addition, D-BOX Motion Code will be included on each film, another Blu-ray advantage over HD DVD.

Also exclusive to Blu-ray is a digital copy of each film housed on a separate disc. Instead of a three-disc set, the digital copies push it to six discs.

The bonus features are extensive, take advantage of BD-Live and appear to include everything found on the HD DVD versions.

The Fast and the Furious Trilogy on Blu-ray carries a steep retail price of $99.98 which is identical to how they priced The Bourne Trilogy set. I hope to add cover art and Amazon pre-order information as soon as its available.

Fourth film?! I'm surprised any sequels came out from that turd of a first movie, and I like Paul Walker.

I already have all these on DVD, so this is a pass for me unless it's far cheaper.

Ha, they must be smoking the good stuff for pricing this at a hundred bucks. C'mon, at least the Bourne movies are good. You can't say the same for this trilogy.

You know the Bourne films are worth the $65 I just paid to Amazon, but Uni is out of their minds if they think this trilogy is worth the same money. This should have a $59.98 list at the most.

Pass...with the fourth film on the horizon, I'd rather opt for a quadrilogy box set... I'll stick with my dvds (1,2) and HD disc (3) for now...but this series is one of my guilty pleasures.

I barely wanted to spring the for the $10 HD-DVD of Tokyo Drift, so I'll probably pass on this.

Re: The Fast and the Furious Trilogy - 3/24/09

Don't the digital copies only take about 1GB or so each? So they're wasting two discs right off the bat, then three when the codes are redeemed.

Who wrote the stupid article? The sequels are far from being inferior.

Ill keep the DVDs, they look damn good anyway.

Re: The Fast and the Furious Trilogy - 3/24/09

I see $39.99 in the future for this one. Maybe even while the ticket is useful.

The preview/trailer for the sans article new "Fast and Furious" was actually rather good.

Re: The Fast and the Furious Trilogy - 3/24/09

HA! No thanks....why release a "trilogy" set to promote the new sequel, which automatically makes your trilogy outdated and an incomplete series?!
And that price? For these flicks?? I feel like Amy Poehler and Seth Meyers on Weekend Update: "Really Universal, really??"

Re: The Fast and the Furious Trilogy - 3/24/09

I want it. It'd be nice if Universal had included a pricier ticket though.

Also, not that I care much because for me it was easily the weakest link here, but it doesn't seem like Tokyo Drift includes the half hour of featurettes included on the bonus disc in the 2-Movie Collection.

Tokyo Drift was much better than the first two films IMO.

I agree! I would rate the files in the following order: 3 - 1 - 2.

Re: The Fast and the Furious Trilogy - 3/24/09

My ranking is 2, 1, 3. The second has the worst title, but the best action. The first one is pretty good too, although a lot of the dialogue is awful. The third one was just kind of mediocre on all fronts, with a dislikable lead. At least it had Sonny Chiba, and the final cameo.

The Fast and the Furious Trilogy on Blu-ray carries a steep retail price of $99.98

Edit: I picked up all three films on HD-DVD for an average cost of $7.64.

Re: The Fast and the Furious Trilogy - 3/24/09

So the preorder is up for $65 at Amazon. It also comes with a free movie ticket. So after you take off $10 for the ticket it comes to $18 and change per movie. Think it's worth it?

Re: The Fast and the Furious Trilogy - 3/24/09

Got this today. All 3 in normal BD cases packaged inside of an embossed slipcase (like Spider-Man). Each movie has a D-BOX code and a Digital Copy. Oh and a $7.50 ticket to see the new film. $99 MSRP for this is laughable.

Re: The Fast and the Furious Trilogy - 3/24/09

Where is the movie cash for the "Fast and Furious" movie. Wasn't included in my trilogy box and wasn't in any BD cases. I looked at the yellow ticket tag on the front of box and it said see back for details. Glanced on the back but couldn't find anything. Had to run back into work and left the set in the car...

Can anyone be kind enough to inform me?

Thanks

Re: The Fast and the Furious Trilogy - 3/24/09

I live in the present, obviously.... I could be dead when they release this in a 4-pack. If I waited and that was the case, I would have never had the chance to own either of the sets. Live fast, Die broke!

Any news on the movie cash from my previous post?
