Yeah, Ghostbusters is like this too. I think they're making us pay for some special packaging whether we want it or not. They wouldn't price a regular catalog title that high.
At least it's coming out.

Isn't 39.99 a normal msrp for a blu-ray. I know Amazon has it up for 29.49 so that seems to be normal.

Re: Dr. Strangelove - new date 6/16 (?) !
The thing with that comparison is for most people, this will be a repurchase of Dr. Strangelove. Maybe they owned it on VHS, LD, DVD.. what have you. Bolt, on the other hand, is a fresh title nobody owns yet (legally at least). Which is more or less a problem the studio has to be aware of by now: While it may be worth $39 MSRP for somebody to own a movie that has never been available, it's much tougher to justify paying $39 for an upgrade (especially now that the single disc DVD release is all of $5).
Yes and no, the other Kubrick flicks are $29 MSRP.

As others have said, it's a normal price for new releases from the majority of studios, but NOT for catalog titles. Even Fox doesn't charge that much now.
I still think they're charging us for some special packaging whether we want it or not. I just can't believe they'd raise the price for no reason.
BTW, Bolt actually would have a $5 cheaper MSRP if we weren't being forced to buy the digital copy and DVD with it.

Once it is out, it will be cheaper in the months to come. All it takes is the patience to wait for a good deal. There is no law that says one has to buy it at release, although the studio would prefer that.

High Def Digest's story from yesterday lists a $28.95 SRP for Strangelove. Can anyone "in the know" confirm the change?

Stanley Kubrick’s black comedy classic about an “accidental” nuclear attack received four Oscar® nominations (including Best Picture, 1964). Convinced the Commies want to pollute America’s “precious bodily fluids,” a crazed general (Sterling Hayden) orders a nuclear air strike on the U.S.S.R. As his aide, Captain Mandrake (Peter Sellers) scrambles to unlock a recall code to prevent the bombing, the U.S. President (Sellers again) calls a drunken Soviet Premier on the hotline claiming the proposed attack is a silly mistake, while the President’s advisor (an ex-Nazi scientist Dr. Strangelove (Sellers once again) verifies the existence of a dreaded Doomsday machine – a retaliatory device designed by the Soviets to end the human race once and for all!
