Hi,

I don't know which one to choose,
one is Kenwood HTB-503, available at shop4.com at $400. Another is Pioneer 509 receiver + take 5 + sub. total would be around 500 + 300 pointclick$.

Seems the receiver in htb503 is not so good as the pioneer one. So does the speaker.

Any suggestions there? Thanks.

The 503 is basically the same thing as the last years 502 as far as I know. I have the 502 in my dorm room, and while the speakers are pretty cheap, they still sound fine to me. Obviously the more you spend on speakers, the better they will sound (to a point), but if you are strapped for cash, and your theater will be in a small room, I think the 503 is a good deal. And the receiver on that system, the VR-309, retails for $400 (at least it did when I bought my 502 in late August)

However, it sounds like you can get a pretty good deal on the Take 5 system, and if you can afford it, I'd definitely go with that.

The 503 still has crap speakers and the receiver is a VR-407, very similar to a Vr-309. Sometimes you can good deals on a Yamaha HTR5140 (maybe a 5150). Less power- but they produce MUCH better sound. Pioneer is around .7% THD and the Yamahas are .05% THD. If you are set on a Pioneer, look for the discontinued 608. It was on clearance sale at my local Fry's for $225, open box.
