Go Slumdog Millionaire! It’s nice to see The Dark Knight get so many nominations and Gomorrah not get snubbed like it did in the Academy Awards. The awards ceremony will take place Royal Opera House on February 8.
What do you think of the nominations?

Oh for the love of....."Mamma Mia!" for Best British Picture? The film is a piece of SHIT! I know it's the biggest movie in U.K. history. It's still garbage. And not worthy of this nomination. This is such a joke.

How many years is Michael Cera going to be a rising star? Indy 4 for Visual Effects? That was the worst CG I've seen this decade. Hellboy II got shut out of technicals and that's outrageous.
Also, The Fall not getting a cinematography nom is bollocks.

Personally I don't why The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is getting so much accolade - I thought it was pretty mundane, not Fincher's best by a long shot.

Glad to see The Reader get nominated for Best Picture. It seems to be getting underrated (IMO) by the critics and I don't think it will get a Best Picture Oscar nomination. Also nice to see Changeling get a bunch of nominations, another film I think has been underrated and I expect will be pretty thoroughly snubbed by the Academy.
I agree with Giles about Benjamin Button. One of my biggest disappointments of the year. He's made much better films.

Best Foreign Language Film (announced earlier)
“The Baader Meinhof Complex”
“Gomorrah”
“I’ve Loved You So Long”
“Persepolis”
“Waltz With Bashir”
All great picks, eventhough I haven't seen most of them.

Adams and Swinton for Best Supporting Actress? I'm not sure who I'd have nominated instead, but neither of these performances stood out to me.
Yet another awards show that fails to Let the Right One In. And yeah, Indy IV for Best Visual Effects? Was the nomination crew blind?

Hell yes on "The Reader". Wonderful film. And three cheers for Kate getting a double Best Actress nomination. She's equally good in both. I'm thrilled "Gran Torino" got nothing. One joke nomination was enough ("Mamma Mia!"). Well, two if you count "Indy 4" for Best Visual Effects. I liked the film, but it surely doesn't deserve any nominations. I thought for sure "The Fall" would garner at least a Best Cinematography nomination here and/or the Oscars. And why does "The Incredible Hulk" continue to not get a Best Sound nomination as well? The best sound and loudest film I've heard in the theater (and at home) in years. Last, in a perfect world, if "Slumdog" wins Best Picture. Please PLEASE let "In Bruges" take home the Best British Film.

I'm just shocked Swinton wasn't nominated for Button. She was fantastic in that. Certainly the best performance in the film, and one of her personal best performances as well.

True, but aside from a Supporting Actor nomination that was guaranteed to happen, the rest of its nominations are all technical.
No Director, No Picture, No Screenplay.
I still think it'll probably make the top 5 at the Oscars for Best Picture, but not a guarantee, imo. I still think there's a tiny chance that Doubt will bump TDK for Best Picture, but Nolan will still get in for Director. And will have another split between those categories. Slumdog, Frost/Nixon, Button, and Milk rounding out the list.
I did say tiny chance though. The DGA and PGA nominations are a big boost for it.

Brad Pitt was much better in Burn after reading. Why does Benjamin Button keep getting all these nominations? It really is a snoozer.
Was hoping James Franco would get a nomination for Milk.

Re: Pitt. Even though I loved "Button", his performance in "Burn" was far more award worthy. But in the supporting category. About "Button", it took me a little while to warm up to it. But it resonated with me. And it's definitely one of the most beautiful looking films I've ever seen.

While I agree that Brad was better in Burn After Reading, I liked Button a lot more then Milk.
