Quantum of Solace : 3/24/09

http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=51899
Sounds like a piece of shit DVD release that has me absolutely disgusted. Not only is this the worst Bond movie ever it appears to have the worst 2-disk edition of any 007 movie as well. I cant believe this is what we get for bonus content:

Single-Disc DVD Special Features:

"Another Way to Die" Music Video
Theatrical Trailers

Two-Disc Special Edition DVD Special Features:

Includes all of the above single-disc content plus additional bonus features:

"Bond on Location" 24-minute special feature
Start of Shooting
On Location
Olga Kurylenko and the Boat Chase
Director Marc Forster
The Music
Crew Files

Unless there's a store-exclusive steelbook or bonus disc, I'm not picking this up. I'll wait for the 3-disc which'll probably come out a month before the next movie.

While I'll grant you that Quantum Of Solace was a big step down from Casino Royale, saying it's the worst Bond movie in a series that includes Die Another Day, The Living Daylights, and Octopussy is rather silly.

As far as the "worst 2-Disc edition of any 007 movie yet", the Casino Royale 2-Disc was pretty weak. I'll more than likely wait for the 3-Disc standard/2-Disc Blu-Ray release that will be released for the next Bond film...

Well, at least that's more features than the original Casino Royale disc.

Since Fox is doing it, here's to hoping for a DTS track.

Smart man!
I think many of us should start doing this after THE DARK NIGHT dvd that just came out. Studios are putting out 2 dvds one plain and the other 2-disc but then when the next movie of the series comes out they offer a 3-disc set plus movie ticket. So wait everybody!

Why would you put OCTOPUSSY in that pile?
The movie had great stunts and Moore was very good.

Re: Quantum of Solace : 3/24/09

I loved QoS (saw it three times in the theater), so I'll most likely pick up this (no doubt first) release on the cheap and then upgrade down the road if the special features are worthwhile.

The Living Daylights is, IMHO, one of the very BEST Bonds. Great plot, great acting, cool gadgets, it's only hampered by Joe Lynn Baker's sorta buffoonish villain.

Die Another Day is half of a really great Bond movie, and half of a really shitty one.

And Octopussy is sort of second-tier Bond, but I dig it.

Still, I agree that QoS is FAR from the Worst Bond Ever. I'd give that to "A View To A Kill", easily.

I'll definitely pick it up if it goes SteelBook. If not I'll have to reconsider.

Re: Quantum of Solace : 3/24/09

I'll get the two disc DVD to go with the DVD version of Royale, but will wait for the collectors edition before considering getting it on Blu.

I will probably get this, then upgrade in two years when the third Craig-Bond film hits.

For once, the two-disc art is better than the one-disc.

I don't know, I think calling The Living Daylights one of the worst Bond movies is amazingly, jaw-droppingly silly.

Here I agree with you. I hated Quantum of Solace (I place it in the bottom ten Bond films for sure, maybe lower) so I'm in no rush to get it. But I'm a huge Bond fan, and I have to get it for completion's sake, so I'll wait for the inevitable double-dip.

Re: Quantum of Solace : 3/24/09

It is still three months before release, so we have a ways to go before those specs are finalized. I will withhold judgement until we actually see the full specs.
As far as Quantum being the worst Bond movie ever, you obviously havent seen all the Bond movies, OP.

Re: Quantum of Solace : 3/24/09

The Living Daylights is a solid entry in the series, and the screenwriters did an excellent job spinning an interesting story out of Fleming's short story (which comprises, basically, the first five minutes of the film after the main titles). Timothy Dalton was a great, true-to-Fleming James Bond and I'm greatly entertained that audiences today rave about Daniel Craig doing what they didn't like when Dalton did it 20 years earlier.

Having gotten that off my chest, count me among the "The 2-disc sucks and I resent knowing I'll be milked for a 3-disc set down the road that will have everything this release should have had, but I'll buy it anyway and I know it" crowd. Also, I loved the film and am greatly annoyed that, yet again, the initial DVD release of a Sony produced Bond film lacks a director's commentary.

A View to a Kill is the worst Bond movie ever. End of argument.

Re: Quantum of Solace : 3/24/09

I enjoyed QoS quite a bit, and I rarely ever feel its worth the extra money for so-called extra features that I might watch one time (yeah, there's a few exceptions but for the majority of dvds I own I'm really interested in just the film itself), so I'll get the single disc version like I usually do.

Plus, as a 007 nut, a Bond film would have to be mind-numblingly bad for me not to pick it up to complete my collection. Even the weakest entries in the series for me (LTK, AVTAK, TWINE) are far from being so bad that I wouldn't own them and never watch them. I just watch them much less frequently than I do the ones that I consider to be my favorites (GF, YOLT, DAF, TMWTGG, TSWLM, MR, GE, DAD).

Re: Quantum of Solace : 3/24/09

I really enjoyed QoS, and feel that it got unfair negative reviews from a lot of people. Maybe it was the fact that expectations were so high from Casino Royale? There were only a few scenes in it that had CGI that should have been improved upon. I thought the story was pretty decent, acting was good, and it still had the grittiness of the CR.

I still think it's leaps and bounds above The World is Not Enough and Tomorrow Never Dies. I was never a fan of Moore's movies, so i think it jumps ahead of those as well.

In any case, i won't be picking this up new. I rarely pick up DVDs new anymore. I guess WM and Big Lots have spoiled me. I'll probably pick this up when the library unloads numerous copies for $3, along with the Dark Knight.
