The United States of Tara -- Series Premiere -- 1/10/09
Anyone see this on TV101 (DirectTV)? It is a Showtime show that premiered on DirectTV (not sure if it already premiered on SHO or when it officially does).
Starring Toni Collette and John Corbett. The pilot was written by Diablo Cody (Juno) and Executive Produced by her and Steven Spielberg.
I thought it was a good premise and Toni Collette was good, but seemed off. The children weren't very good as actors and thought a daughter who is 15, has sex, dates the wackiest looking kid in high school (white Japanese triad wannabe), yet does ballet was very off. And the gayish son seemed like the young kid on "Weeds".
I don't know if it portrays Dissociative Identity Disorder that accurately, but it seemed very off the entire episode. John Corbett was good and seemed the most stable and acted the best.
Neat premise, but so far lacked execution. Might give it one mroe try.

I watched it via OnDemand today -- didn't totally hook me in, but I will continue to tune in to see where it goes.

It's already on Demand and the OP is wrong, it does debut on the 18th.
Oh, and the show is OK so far. It was only the pilot, I just hope Cody doesn't write too many of the episodes. That chick doesn't know how to write for anyone younger than 26. I don't care what any one says.

I had low expectations for this, but I was pleasantly surprised. It took a little bit to get into it, but I found it to be a very good start to a show that looks to have a lot of potential.
I went and searched for some print reviews and they were all pretty good to very good and stated the series gets better with each episode.
I'm in for the long haul, which is only 12 episodes...5 written by Diablo, I believe.
Collette and Corbett were very good.
I wish my wife would turn into T every now and again.

I thought it was hilarious and I can't wait to see more. Juno is one of my favorite films, so I guess I was predisposed to like this.

The pilot is also availiable on Netflix Watch Instantly. I really liked it. I have no problem with Cody's writing, but for those who do the Pilot's dialogue is fairly toned down compared to Juno.

It was okay. The son is the most annoying thing, just like on Weeds. A completely unrealistic uber-smart child. It takes me out of the show completely. I also didn't like the way the daughter was written either, too smart. She sounds like a screenwriter. I did like the Kelly LeBroc reference. That was pretty hot even though I don't find Toni Collett attractive at all. That was still very sexy. I won't be watching the next episode.

I liked it a lot. Toni Collett really brings the character's to life...more so then one would think possible.
Yeah the son is a tad annoying, but I think that was the point...or maybe not.
Love seeing John Corbett on good TV...I miss Lucky (come on Fox, put it out on DVD).

I'm thinking that's Diablo Cody. She's shown in the little work that she's had that she doesn't know how to write for anyone under the age of 30. I don't care what the Academy or what critics say.

I liked it a lot.
I'm not gonna bitch about unrealistic child behavior on a show with a premise this silly
