My Question is this can I buy a philips pronto and program it to work the pioneer with out the pioneer remote(I would hate programing it with the dog)

Check with Pioneer first to see if they still have a similar remote available. Once I was able to order a remote from Denon for a receiver that was 3 years old, reasonable price too.

P.S. And don't forget to feed the dog
