Bolt: 03/24/09 3-disc

Bolt 3 disc set is coming on 3/24/09. I do see from the listing that it comes with a digital copy. No details on specs yet though.

This was awesome in 3-D at the theaters. Wonder if they'll toss a 3-D version on this disc.

My guess:

2 Disc Set
3 Disc Set (Digital Copy + Slip)

Re: Bolt: 03/24/09 3-disc

I don't need a digital copy, so I'll take the 2-disc on this. But I'm guessing they may only offer the 3-D on the three disc.

really?? I thought the effects were very lacklustre compared to other recent 3D films.

Re: Bolt: 03/24/09 3-disc

I liked the 3-D version a lot as well... it wasn't overbearing or showy. I hope they include a 3D version on here, but really if all we can get is the red/blue kind, I'm not too upset if it doesn't happen. This is a definite buy for me though.

Based on what i'm reading, it might have a dvd copy of the movie as part of the 3-discs. That's what they're doing with Pinocchio, so its a possibility.

I believe they're doing the same thing with HSM 3.

I liked it, composition was clearly meant to work well with the 3-D version. But, I will admit to not having seen any other 3-D movies for about 4 years when I saw the 3-D stuff at Universal Studios (Terminator 3-D and Shrek 3-D). Seemed like they reproduced that in the theater to me.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed Bolt. I will definitely be picking this one up on Blu-ray.

No technical specs have been announced at this time, though you can expect to see 1.78:1 1080p AVC accompanied by lossless audio.

Extras for this release include:

-Act, Speak! The Voices of Bolt - Join the voice cast in session: John Travolta (Bolt), Miley Cyrus (Penny), Susie Essman (Mittens), James Lipton (Director) and Mark Walton (Rhino).
-Creating The World of Bolt – Bolt's painterly backgrounds have wowed audiences across the globe. The filmmakers explain how they fashioned the unique look of this CG movie.

Deleted Scenes - With optional introductions by directors Chris Williams and Byron Howard.

I know it's only 2 days, but I like the idea of a BD getting an advanced release. I hope this becomes a trend.

Retailers should love this. Either they will put the DVD out early, or be annoyed with "Where is the DVD....I have to wait 2 more days to buy the DVD or pay $28 for the Blu-ray that comes with a bonus DVD? Your ad shows the DVD being $15.99 I'm not paying extra to get it two days early!". So glad I am not in retail sales.

I hope I get the chance to buy a cheaper version without the useless digital copy. Otherwise I can't agree.

I was pleasantly surprised by Bolt. I did enjoy the 3D version so I'll be pretty disappointed if it isn't included.

Kudos to Disney for being the first to give the Blu-ray the release edge on a release. 2 days isn't much but it's better than nothing.

I'm all for bonus copies being folded into an extra-filled DVD with a Blu-ray release or a 2-disc DVD SE. I just don't like it when the only thing on the 2nd or 3rd disc is the Digital Copy.

Re: Bolt: 03/24/09 3-disc

BD Insider Penton-Man posted today on blu-ray.com that another major studio will release a future title on the Friday before the street date for the DVD.

No one knows which, if any, studio PM is associated with. But reading many of his posts in the past, he certainly seems overly knowledgeable with Sony items. Could Quantum of Solace be this title? If another studio followed Disney's action of releasing a BD early, I would bet on Sony.

doh!

Assuming it's Sony, I'll guess "Seven Pounds". Unless I'm mistaken, that's their biggest day & date release not announced yet.

Given the current timeline and rate of releases, it could be Seven Pounds, Paul Blart: Mall Cop, or The Pink Panther 2.

Unless it comes with a DVD version (if its Sony I doubt it) once again there will be many angry customers who don't have BD and see the title on the shelf and assume the DVD is available as well. Will it help BD sales? Maybe a little, but I don't see anyone running out to buy a BD player just to watch a movie a few days earlier. Not sure what the whole point of this early release really is.
