I paid $12.99 for The Mist at inetvideo. Several others are $12.99 as well, and I doubt if you'll beat Amazon's upcoming B2G1 sale, at least for about 10 movies, anyway. PoT and Death Proof are $16.99 each as well. Halloween is $14.99.

I got Planet Terror from the wife for the holidays. I really enjoyed watching the "scratch-free" version. It's appears gorier sans the scratches and washed-out color. It still has the bad film breaks and cuts. The one bad thing is you don't get the HD audio with this version, but you do with the beat-up Grindhouse version. The irony. I really wished they had put each movie on its own disc to allow for HD audio on each instead of both film versions on disc one and the special features on disc two.
I had picked up The Descent and Halloween on Amazon's 50% sale for decent prices. Still want to pick up Death Proof and The Mist.

I'm saying take advantage of the CURRENT prices because once the B2G1 FREE promotion starts...the CURRENT prices will INCREASE, negating any savings.

For example, buying Stargate ($19.99 MSRP), Saw ($24.99 MSRP), and Beowulf & Grendel ($29.99 MSRP) which are currently $10.49, $10.49, and $13.49 respectively. I highly doubt these prices will remain this low DURING THE B2G1 Promotion.

That's what I mean. For prices that already high, then it will pay off to wait for the upcoming promotion. Otherwise, I'd suggest ordering lower-priced titles now.

I've got a few classics - The Searchers, Dr. No, From Russia With Love, and The Adventures of Robin Hood. Robin Hood is from 1939 and it looks great on Blu Ray. No, it doesn't look like a 1990's movie, but it is very crisp, clear, and has tremendous color clarity and saturation (without bleeding).

Dr. No and From Russia With Love both look like they were filmed in the 80's.

ANY film that is reasonably well preserved will look better on Blu Ray than on DVD.

Amazon is typically decent in their pricing but they are raising the ire of customers because this is NOT a Buy 2 Get One Free deal. There has been some price shenanigans afoot. This has nothing to do with screwing them out of their profits. Raising prices across the board while claiming to conduct a sale isn't illegal but it is clearly unethical. If you can't understand that, there is no discussion. This isn't so different from illegal "bait and switch" schemes.

Amazon is clearly playing upon human psychology with this sale. "Buy two get one free" enables them to move slow inventory since many will buy titles they might otherwise have never purchased. The vast majority of these titles have appeared in similar sales at lower prices and I have no doubt they will be offered over the next year in countless other promotions bearing cheaper prices.

Recently, a Good Morning America hidden camera investigation found that if you peeled back the label on the “sale” items during the Linen’s N Things liquidation, you would find the old label underneath, with a cheaper price. The liquidators prey upon consumer psychology by first raising the price, then taking the discount off the inflated price. Calphalon saucepan was on sale for $124.99, but the label underneath was for $109.99. Rachael Ray cookware, $199 on top, $179 on bottom. Curtain scarf $39.99, old price $27.99. It was the same story at CompUSA and Circuit City. It’s less about actual deals, and more about manipulating buyer behavior. The only thing getting liquidated during these sales is your wallet. Amazon's practices are mirroring this strategy.

Marking up by liquidators is par for the course. I was somewhat thinking I was getting a better price when I bought some stuff at my closing Circuit City early in the death. However, when I got home I found them a buck or two cheaper online than what I paid. Grrrr, but I did it to myself.

I placed an order at around 12:15am. The prices were already changed. However, those who had a few in their carts, managed to get the older prices. I managed to get one order through because I had three in my cart. I didn't even know what was going on until I added more titles for another order and then...BAMHOLYFUCKWERAISEDPRICES!!...and I deleted the titles from my cart for the second order.

Some titles are cheaper elsewhere, but others aren't. Obviously people can be smart about it and take advantage to get those titles cheaper.

Gene Simmons was railing against lowering concert prices on the basis that once people expect to pay less for something, you can't raise the prices as high as you'd like in the future. Now he's being his usual money-grubbing self, but he has a valid point: we're all bitching that these "sales" aren't as good as the BF sales. Because Amazon sold us BDs for $9-$17 in those few days, we're no longer satisfied by ave. prices in the ~$18 range.

Well, I won't compare the Black Friday deals to a typical B2G1. Because yes, that's asking too much. That was a once-a-year deal.

But I will compare previous B2G1 sales events Amazon has had in the past. And they certainly did not hike the prices like this. I simply don't remember titles shooting up like a bamboo forest when I went to checkout. This is what DeepDiscount does. I didn't expect Amazon to follow suit.

On the same note, why would I now want to buy $25+ titles? I might as well just wait for them to come down to the $15-$18 price Amazon routinely has. The whole point of a sale is to get something you normally would not. This B2G1 event is far from a sale. It's more like juggling prices and ending up paying the same, and even a little more. See, customers like you make companies hate to put on these sales. You knew they were going to higher the price. All of us knew and now you're upset because they did what you've predicted? Please, you're still saving money. Don't you have like 45640546545 movies you bought last month already. Do either of these two things: Wait, or don't buy it!
