Love it. Nicholson scared the shit out of me when I was younger. And the quick flashes revealing the carnage caused by the previous caretaker always gave me the creeps.

I don't hate it but I don't love... and there wasn't an inbetween selection.
If I had never read the book, I'd probably love it.... BUT having read the book before the movie was made, I have big issues with several aspects of the movie.

I was really disappointed when it first came out since it was so different from the book. Now, though, I completely separate it from the book and I love it.

Liked it, but didn't love it.
Where's that option?

liked the book alot more than the movie but nicholson was great. He was one of the things I found wrong with the movie. Problem is Jack is supposed to gradually go under the influence of the hotel... but Jack looks nutso from the get-go.

The book was better, but I still love the film. Scared the shit outta me when I was younger.

I remember being afraid of the cover of the book when I was a kid. The kid's eyes were white and it creeped me out.
Dang, Danny definitely looks creepy... and the topiary is getting frisky!

I didn't care for it too much the first time I saw it when I was younger, but the older I get the more I like it.
But boy do I hate Shelley Duvall!

But boy do I hate Shelley Duvall!
Same for me. I love the movie but she just annoys the ever-lovin' shit out of me.

I think this is one of Kubrick's finest moments and this film will always be in my all time top 5 Horror films.

That topiary lion is so cute!:)
Seriously though, Loved the movie, loved the book.
They're apples and oranges (or best looked at that way) and are both great.
The movie barely resembles the book, and I think that's OK - tons of eerie style making for a disturbing disorienting flick, while the book is obv vintage King.
