Just a thought...before making a special trip to Kroger's (we hardly ever shop there unless they have a special on something specific), I decided to hit Amazon...found new copies of Unscripted for $3 + $2.98 shipping on AmazonMarketplace from a couple of sellers. That's only .50 more than I would have paid to Kroger (with nearly 10% local tax), plus I saved time & gas.
Also saw Boomtown for around $6...with the $2.98 shipping charge, it would be a little more (around $1.30 in my case... if I didn't already have it), but it might be worth it if you need to save time, gas, or frustration (if your Kroger doesn't have the display).

I can confirm that the Ralph's in Ontario has this display. Unfortunately the selection is very limited. The HD-DVDs I saw (Balls of Fury and Chuck and Larry) were both $7.99 each and they had 2 copies of Boomtown S1 and some other random stuff. Nothing different that what was posted above.

The Breakfast Club - $3.99

Army of Darkness - $6.99
Louisville, KY
Hustbourne/Taylorsville Rd. - Had a few dozen, excellent selection.
Hikes Lane - Couple dozen total discs, terrible selection
Taylorsville Rd. by the Snyder - zero HD-DVDs
Hubbards Lane - zero HD-DVDs
Smiths in Las Vegas, Sunset Street had them all listed above, plus many more.

Talk to ME = $2.49
Alpha Dog = $2.99
Slither = $2.99

I used self-checkout to make sure the prices rang up at 50% off. If they don't, it's easy to cancel the order. If your Kroger has these, I recommend using them (if you're afraid you'll go through regular checkout and it doesn't ring up correctly).

Picked up a couple of the HD-DVD combo discs. Never got a HD-DVD player, but it's still just $3.00 for a playable DVD. Picked up "Slither" and "Alpha Dog," and I might grab a few more tomorrow.
One of my stores had the 50% off sign, and a rather picked-over selection. Another store had the same bin, many more HD-DVDs and quite a few standard DVDs as well, but no 50% off sign. The standard DVDs were priced at $4.99 (things like Broken Flowers). Do these DVDs ring up at 50% off, too? I couldn't find a price check scanner anywhere in the store to check.

Well you can always take it to the cashier and ask how much it is before you buy it. From what I am reading 50% off does not ring before you scan your Kroger's card. Either way it is a good deal.

I found the cardboard bin by accident at the Finneytown (Winton Rd.) Kroger yesterday. I did not see a 50% off sign, but didn't price-check or purchase any, either. I remember seeing:
- Ballz of Fury (at least 5 copies)
- Breach
- Children of Men
- The Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift
- Fearless (at least 5 copies)
- Slither
- You, Me and Dupree

Yes, the 50% does apply to Ralphs stores. I finally found a couple of movies in the Ralphs in Chula Vista. There were just a couple left.

All the combos were 50% off at my local store (City Market). At that price ($2 to $3) they are about the same as a rental so I purchased eight more plus the three I bought a few weeks ago. I then returned the three previously purchased using my register receipt from last month, lowering the price on them.
Good deal.

I've been to 3-4 Kroger stores in the past week and everyone is picked clean. Only a handful of SD DVDs in the bins, if that. One store had just tossed some books in the bin instead. The DVDs were marked 50% off though, and I did snag Unscripted for half off.

So far people have mentioned Kroger's, Dillon's, and Ralph's stores having these DVD deals. I don't have any of those stores nearby, but the Kroger link says there are Fry's Food and Smith's stores nearby.
Has anyone found any of these deals at a Fry's or Smith's store?

Hmmm... Out here in Los Angeles the weekly ad of specials runs from Wed through Tues. If you tried last nite (Wed. nite), that would be the start of a new ad week (at least here in Los Angeles).
I wonder if this is a permanent 50% markdown to clear them all or is/was it a weekly special that is now over?
I checked a few Ralphs out here and there was none to be found. The cardboard displays were refilled with childrens books...

These are 75 percent off now, and at the two stores I checked, they were all in a shopping cart outside the store. I got the regular DVD of "Lovely and Amazing" for $1.24. I could have gotten the HD-DVD of "Talk to Me" for the same price but...eh.
Anyway, watch for it!

What store? Was it in the L.A. area???
The store was in Whittier, CA.
As part of my job, I frequently drive a company vehicle all over the greater Los Angeles area. This allows me to visit many different Biglots, Walmarts, Targets and now Ralphs.
I bought Slither and Breach for $1.50 each. At the checkstand, the cashier knew about the deal and said " I still haven't found the time to get over there (to the display) and get some." The bag boy asked what are you taking about?" The cashier said the dvds are on clearance, most are now $1.25 to $1.50 each and points to the display.
The bag boy looks at Slither as he is putting it in a bag for me and says "This is an HD dvd, I don't have an HD player." The cashier says " It's HD on one side and regular dvd on the other side and there are a bunch of regular dvds also."
The bag boy then says "How come nobody ever tells me about this stuff?". The cashier just rolls her eyes. After the bag boy gives me my dvds in a bag, he just walks away from the check stand and heads toward the display...
Since there was nobody else waiting in the fast checkout, the cashier turns off the light at the checkstand and she also walks over towards the display. I would guess that employees also get a discount in addition to the sale price?
That conversation was priceless...

That's great. I found a stash at a Kroger in Decatur, Ga. (N. Decatur Rd. and Dekalb Ind.) a couple of weeks ago. The only thing I don't like about these sales is that I end up with crap I don't even care about. I'll give one watch and maybe sell to someone at work.
BTW, that Kroger I mentioned had a few titles left two days ago. Not much, but a few.

Found two Ralphs last night in the Topanga Canyon area that had quite a few HDs left. Suffice it to say, I grabbed them all.
Before I rang them up, I asked the cashier to scan my card and price check the first title. As he swiped my card, he told me the titles were 50% off. Much to his surprise, they rang up at 75% off. He asked me if there were any left and I told him nope.

I've noticed at some of the stores that they're being placed in the Sony 2 for $20 display if the number of HD discs are low. Another place to check are those black wire multi-tier mesh baskets that hover around the end-caps located in the front of the stores.
