PS3 price cut?
I was going to put this in the main PS3 thread, but I thought it deserved it's own thread.
I work for a television station here in town, and they reported today that Sony is cutting the price of the PS3 "by 35%" bringing it down to $450. I've managed to find this article on the wire...which is where we got it from:
SONY HAS CUT THE PRICE OF IT'S PLAYSTATION 3 GAME SYSTEM BY A LITTLE MORE THAN A THIRD. THE PRICE OF A PLAYSTATION 3 WILL DROP TO JUST UNDER 450-DOLLARS. PLAYSTATION 3 LAGS BEHIND MICROSOFT'S X-BOX 360 AND NINTENDO'S WII IN THE HOT VIDEOGAME MARKET.
But I found this article on Business Week, which I'm 99.999999999% is the information they are basing this on. Cutting the production costs, but not the consumer price.
The newsroom got it off the feed, it's a national segment they repackage for smaller markets. But I told them I think they are wrong.
I'm not crazy, am I? I didn't see price cut info ANYWHERE on the blogs, and I figured it would be the top story everywhere. Plus...the whole "cutting costs by 35% to make it $450" doesn't make any sense either.
I'm wondering if this is going to pop up in other places.

There was an article just like the Business Week one on ps3fanboy last week that essentially said the same thing: production costs have fallen and it now costs Sony about $450 to make a system they sell for $400. No price drop is expected any time soon.

That's what I told everyone, and they looked at me like I was crazy, since this is a national story they are sending out everywhere.
They ended up dropping the story altogether because it was pretty short, but I think this is going to turn up.
