New "Street Fighter" trailer

I searched for "kruek", "chun li" and "street fighter" and couldn't find the original thread, but here's the Japanese trailer for "Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li"

<embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="500" height="319" src="http://gamevideos.1up.com/swf/gamevideos11.swf?embedded=1&fullscreen=1&autoplay=0&src=http://gamevideos.1up.com/do/videoListXML%3Fid%3D23163%26adPlay%3Dtrue" align="middle"></embed>Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li Movie Trailer

Just...wow. What the hell. Looks like total wire-fu trash.

Not that I expected much, but the game itself doesn't really include that kind of wire-fu stuff. I wanted to see a lot more hand-to-hand. Anyway, can't be worse than the original movie but it looks like it's getting close.

According to the producer they're saving Ken and Ryu for the sequel. Given a sequel is dependant on the success of this turd...

I thought about it, and figured that people wouldn't care in the Movie forum.

Sorry about that.

There's already another thread with a different link in the movie forum. Maybe they should be merged?

I refuse to see this movie on moral grounds.

Because your character isn't in the movie?
The movie looks slightly better than the Van Damne version but not much better.

I'm amazed mid-1990s action movies are still being made and released in theaters!

I was just thinking about this movie. The trailer is not loading for me.

I'm still curious about it. Maybe it won't be that horrible, I actually liked the first movie.

It actually looks worse than the 94 movie (which really isn't that horrible, just overly campy). I wouldn't hold my breathe for a Ken Ryu sequel. This has bomb written all over it.

Why do they have to give Kristen Kreuk unnatural-lookin' blue eyes? She already has light eyes and is hot as is. Is it really necessary to Chun Li fans that she has blue eyes?

Exactly, the first film just needed the goofier humor (although I loved Bison's Pax Bisonica speech) toned down and had Guile placing Ken and Ryu undercover in an underground fight tournament (bloodsport style) we would have had the perfect Street Fighter movie.

This, on the other hand, looks like someone with a love of wire fu (and not the good kind) decided to take a bunch of regular folk and give them the names of the Street Fighter characters. I'm in agreement that the game costumes do not translate well in live action but I feel a middle ground could have been achieved. This is why I mentioned in the other thread that the filmmakers here should have taken the animated series Street Fighter II V as a model. The look and backstories were changed and yet the show always managed to infuse elements of the games in ways that made sense.

And how can it be Street Fighter without Ken and Ryu? Ryu is the titular character and Ken is his best friend and rival.

Sad but true.
