Some Help With HD

Not sure if this is the right place for this but i was wondering if you guys can help me out since i always found the answers i was looking for on this site i figured you guys can guide me through this as well.

i plan on buying a new hd tv this friday. i basically have 2 choices..

50' Panasonic TH-50PX75U 720p Plasma for $790

or

42' Panasonic TH-42PZ80U 1080p Plasma for $800

i mean i def want the bigger tv, but in a way i also want the best picture so im not sure if there much of a difference between the 1080p and 720p and if the different sizes affects this decision. im not very smart when it comes to all this hd talk. this is going to be a bedroom tv. so the distance between the bed and location where im putting the tv is about 10 feet.
i want to get a Playstation 3 as my Blu-ray player cause i want to play games with it as well. so i figured the ps3 would be the best bet.
and lastly i was looking on monoprice for some hdmi cables and saw regular hdmi cables and a 1.3 hdmi cable.. which once should i purchase and whats the difference between the 2.

any help would be great and very very helpful. would love to hear some difference opinions.
thanks in advance.

Well I might as well respond to myself.

Go with the 50". From that distance you can't tell the difference in resolution1080p vs 720p. Plus you get 8 more inches diagonally, which will make for better viewing from 10 feet away. I don't know if the PS3 you can get a 1.3 HDMI cable. But If you were plugging into a receiver and Blu-ray player that could do all hidef audio like Dolby TrueHD or dts-HD Master Audio you would need a 1.3 class HDMI cable.

Yes, the 50" was the right choice.

As to the PS3, just depends if you play a lot of games. And of course, HDMI 1.3 requires your entire data path is 1.3 compliant if you use those components in that path. Blu-ray Player, AV receiver, etc.

I have a 1080p 42" Panasonic Plasma ($1050, last November btw, but it did come with a free Blu-ray player)... and I sorta wish I had picked up a bigger screen. Given those two choices today, I'd go for all that extra real estate. At this size, on these Panasonic Plasmas, everything looks good at common seating distances (Blu-ray, upconverted, good digital SD, games, etc).

As a Staten Island boy for 26 years, and someone who owns a 50" 720 Panny plasma, that is the correct choice.

I bought a 50" and kind of wish I went 58".

Monorpice 1.3 cable are just tested for 1.3. The non 1.3 weren't tested to those standards but it doesnt mean it won't be able to handle 1.3. Since monoprice cables are so cheap I would spend the extra money.

I love my PS3. And not just for Blu-ray and games either.
