I know there hasn't exactly been a shortage of Brendon Fraser movies and fantasy films lately, but the trailer for this looked pretty decent:

Anybody see a sneak peak of it yet or read the book?

Time to bump this thread because the movie opened yesterday.
I went to see it with a couple of friends. Two of us had read the books (Inkheart and sequel Inkspell, award-winning young adult fantasy novels by German author Cornelia Funke) and one hadn't. We all enjoyed it. The theater was about a third full for the 7 PM opening; I was surprised it had that many because I've seen no publicity and the books aren't widely known in the USA, so far as I am aware. Pretty good number of kids in the audience; the movie is suitable for children, in my judgment.
It has been some years since I read the book, but the changes I noticed seemed well done to condense the story for movie purposes. The member of our group who hadn't read the book had no trouble following what was going on. The highlight of the movie for my friends (who have adult children) was seeing a young boy, perhaps 5 years old, after the movie rubbing his his hands together to try to create fire, in the manner of the fire juggler character Dustfinger. They got a kick out of that.
So, I found Inkheart to be a pretty good light fantasy and thought the adaptation from the novel was well done. (In addition to Inkheart and Inkspell, I've read English translations of several other novels by the author, but not the recently released third book in the "Ink" trilogy: Inkdeath.)

Was this film supposed to be released Fall of 2008? I think I read somewhere it was. If so, it seems the studio has no faith in the movie dumping during January. I know the reviews are mixed on RT, but user reviews are pretty good. I want to catch it on the big screen.

Did Brendon Fraser fire his agent or something? He went from being in nothing but direct to dvd/b-movies to 3 mainstream films in a row.... Don't get me wrong he did some really good work in some very good independent films like The Air I Breathe, The Last Time, & Journey to the End of the Night but before recently his last big film was Crash.

The trailer looks good. It's already out so I may as well check it out.

I generally enjoyed this film, Fraser was no where as annoying as he was in 'Journey to the Center of the Earth'
