Sharp Aquos or Sony Bravia
Trying to choose between a 40 inch Sony Bravia or a 42 inch Sharp Aqous for my son's Christmas present.
Both are at Sam's Club, have a 3 dollar difference (in the Sharp's favor), multiple HDMI ports (Sony 4, Sharp 3), and there is a nice financing arrangement available for either.
Even though they were displayed in a warehouse setting, both looked far and away better than any other TVs.
Recommendations?
Thanks.

You really can't go wrong with either one. I pondered both when I made my purchase. When all else fails, go with screen size... I'd vote Aquos.
I have a 42 inch Aquos, and I absolutely love my TV.
an extra HDMI port is nice, but it depends on need. The truth is that most people who would have four HDMI devices are likely to have a receiver as an intermediary anyway...
I think your son will be thrilled with either one.

I also have an Aquos and would highly recommend it...in general I'd say it always pays to go a little bit bigger, although 2 inches makes it a tough decision. The Aquos line is pretty good tho, I totally love my 52".

I'm happy with my Aquos, but would love to try Sony. Whatever you do, go big! Even the largest screen will seem smaller when you get it home (unless your son lives in a 300 sq ft studio apartment).

I have a Sony Bravia 40 inch and love it. My last Sony (though not a flat screen) lasted for 18 years...and only died because I had a power surge and didn't have it in a surge protector.

I have a 42 inch Sharp 64U and I have been very unhappy with it due to a severe case of banding. Banding is a very huge issue with most Sharp tvs and I am surprised that no one has brought it up yet.

Still, there's always the option of returning, if you buy at a good store with a decent warranty, etc.
