Saw this over at slickdeals.

For a limited time, instead of $79 per year, you can get Amazon prime for just $59.

Nice deal. I got it and didn't think I would use it much but I use it quite a bit, and my girlfriend does also.

so if you already have it, will they give you a refund?

Depends on what you do with it of course, but I have this at the regular price and it pays for itself fairly quick if you order a lot from Amazon.

This is very tempting. I loved my month long trial.

As with the free month promotion, at the end of the first year it will automatically switch to $79 and charge you for the next year. If you don't want that to happen, there is a setting in your Prime account you can select. Amazon won't send you an email reminder so it's good to set this ahead of time.

As others have said, if you order a lot from Amazon, it's a really good deal if you like to get stuff quicker.

The only reason I'm considering it is because having Prime may make it more likely to get in on the occasional price errors.

I joined up--this is a good deal. Bear in mind also, that you can "invite" I think 4 family members to join your account. People seem to add strangers, but assuming you keep to the family rule, you could split the $60 however many ways with your bro, sis, etc., making your fee for this even less.

Prime is well worth having. I'm a big fan. I can't recommend it enough.

Amazon Prime is a must have. I must have bought at least 50 things from Amazon and no matter how tiny the order is it always arrived in 2 days with no hassles. When I signed up they had that $50 grocery promotion so I said, what the heck. But after signing up is when I realized just how valuable it is. Everyone I've referred to it has been pretty skeptical before joining but is all for it afterwards.

I tried the free Prime trial last year and it was okay but I didn't really use it. Then I picked it up this fall because the charge for Prime was only $20 more than the shipping for the items I needed (a ton of books, but I needed them fast so I couldn't go with free shipping) and I've found Prime to be awesome during the holiday shopping season. No more fretting over whether something will get here in time for Christmas, or not. Meanwhile, the DVDs I ordered on December 1st from DeepDiscountDVD won't be here until after Christmas.

I believe they all have to live under the same roof.

No, they don't. I share prime with a group of "family" and none of us live under the same roof.

I bought this as well. I've been waiting for a promo on this service. The nice thing is that you can extend invites to your family members and they can consider it a "bonus holiday gift" from you. My mother-in-law and sister are both really excited about getting this service for free.

Yeah, I'm sharing this with my brother and then a couple other random friends. Er, I mean other "brothers" :p

Don't forget all the gifts you ship also get 2 day free. So in essence you could "share" this membership with an unlimited number of people...

I've been thinking about using Amazon heavily in 09 and was contemplating Prime. However, I wonder if I'm just as good to go with the free shipping and wait a few days with orders. If you can wait may as well save the $75 (or in this case $59).

For me, it's not about the time as much as it's about not having to buy some useless filler item to get the free shipping. I probably have spent over $59 in batteries to get free shipping in the past year.

its basically 5 people and 80$ total = 16 each person.. Well worth it especially at that price for a year. nobody has access to anyones personal information like credit cards, etc. you just happen to all be on the same account

How do you guys invite people? If I go to the "Manage Prime Membership" screen via the Prime link in the left navigation from the home page, I get a page with my billing info and then a form at the bottom of the page next to an invite button. Unfortunately, none of the form fields have a label, so I don't know what to type where. I though it might be a browser issue but it looks the same in IE, Firefox, and Chrome. Is there another way to get to the invite screen that might work better?

I do love my Amazon Prime membership. It would have been nice to have got it at the $59.00 rate, but such is life. I'm not going to complain...too much! Hehe

I buy from Amazon all the time. I've stuck with the $25 benchmark for free shipping, but may have to check this out based on the positive feedback I'm hearing.
