Hey all,

I'm going to be in Vegas for work next week and I have no interest in gambling or shows. I'm staying at the Mandalay Bay.

Seems like I'll have a couple hours to kill for a couple nights, then I'll have a big chunk of time during the day Thursday. I was originally planning on going to the most awesome place on Earth (http://www.pinballmuseum.org) Thursday, but I'm going there Monday and might spend enough time there that I don't feel the need to return.

Suggestions on fun non-gambling non-show things to do?

Also, my employer has set up a block of hotel rooms for us, but I was wondering if it might still be worth it to try the $20 trick or if having to reassign one of the rooms would throw off their game. Thoughts?

Poker's not gambling. It's a skill game. -wink-

Food. Vegas is one of the best food cities in the country.
Shark Reef Aquarium (http://www.mandalaybay.com/entertainment/sharkreef.aspx) at the Mandalay.

Yeah, can't think of too much else. Vegas is really good for 3 things: gambling, shows, and food. That's all they pretty much got.

yet another non-gambling non-shows things to do in vegas thread

my suggestion: go cougar hunting at Toby Keith's "I Love this Bar and Grill!" inside Harrah's

Thanks for the above suggestions.

I know there are plenty of things to do in Vegas that aren't shows and gambling/poker* -- shopping, museums, animal exhibits, rides. If anyone has any specific recommendations on this kind of thing or any other kind of ng/ns thing, that'd be great.

Also, I'm still looking for thoughts on whether I should bother with the $20 trick.

* I'm sure poker is a game of skill, but I have zero poker skills. I'm the guy that everyone asks to play poker, if you know what I'm saying.

If you're coming with a bunch of people, laser tag :D

There's bowling, but you can do that at home too.

You could easily kill a couple of hours at the Auto Collection museum/showroom at the Imperial Palace. It's free, too.

You could go on a scavenger hunt for your cock and balls!

Poker is gambling. Gambling is the wagering of money or something of material value on an event with an uncertain outcome with the primary intent of winning additional money.

Then so is the stock market.
The IRA and 401(k).
And pretty much any non-FDIC insured investment.

Wow. That's actually quite interesting looking. I might try that the next time I go to Vegas ... which is this weekend! :D

Then I must be one of the most fortunate controllers of uncertain outcomes in the history of man because I've had over 40 months in a row where I've won money playing poker and I know a whole forum worth of people who have done the same

then again you're probably the guy who gets run over every time you get invited to a home game

Driving to work is also gambling. Wagering your life by driving to work (uncertain that you won't die on the way to/from work) with the primary intent of earning an income.

Let me guess: you're someone who strictly plays the cards and not the people. I wish you lived closer; I'd love to have you over as a guest in our poker gatherings.

BTW, you're wrong.

To the OP: Why go to Vegas then? Let someone like me take your place and enjoy the real 'Vegas' attractions. ;) I can show up for your job meetings too, and fake it by day. ;D

To quote Mike McDermott:

"Why do you think the same five guys make it to the final table of the World Series of Poker every year? What, are they the luckiest guys in Las Vegas?"

I play at Harrahs every day (they are running a killer promotion for daily regulars right now), and you are dead on. I walk by that Toby Keith place twice every day (walkway to parking garage passes it), and always see large amounts of country types semi-attractive older women. During the rodeo, it was busier then the Roxbury.

To be fair here, he didn't say that poker was a entirely a game of chance or luck... He simply said that poker is gambling.
