ABC greenlights Fables pilot
ABC has apparently greenlit a pilot based off the DC/Vertigo comic book series Fables:

This is my favorite currently running comic series, and I have huge reservations for basically anyone but HBO picking this up. I just don't see how this will end up being anything other than a complete reimagining of the original concept that only keeps the "Fables living in the modern world" theme.
After ABC's mass axings this fall and the television industry's inability to stick with anything that doesn't blow the reality shows out of the water during week 1, I'm wondering if this is a hype train I should even board. I just don't see how, with the heavy violence and adult/questionable themes, this will end up anything like the comic series.
Here's the Wikipedia link for those new to the concept or want to learn more. It's very much a comic series for people not traditionally into comic books.

I can't think of a single comic-based property that made it to the networks in a non-animated fashion that wasn't changed the way you describe, by keeping the core concept but "adapting" the rest of it for tv. Granted, this is not standard superhero stuff, but the track record is still worrisome.
I'll wait and see, though. At least it's not on the CW...

Yeah what gives? This will see the exact same problems PD saw.

Love the comic series. But have zero hope for the show. Stuff like this just doesn't work on TV. I am curious about the casting though.

I think I found a clip:

I don't see the Pushing Daisies comparison. This could pull in some of the Lost audience. PD is a comedy with some minor dramatic bits. Fables is an action/mystery/thriller. I'm sure it'll be canceled, but the concept can go much farther than Pushing Daisies and I can see it being more accessible...if done right.
