is a blue ray dvd player compatiable with my hdtv ?

I have a question about blu-ray player.

Iam sorry if this has been asked

I have 1080i hdtv with component inputs (no hdmi) will I will get the HD benefit from the player.

I do also have a 720P hdmi input hdtv will this work with blue ray.

I asked a best buy older employee he said it would not work. I know not to trust best buy employees so I thought I would get a couple of other opinions?

Thank you

Both will work, but you will NOT get the full 1080p experience. Which player are you getting? Realize that without HDMI and a set that supports 1080p, your upconversion of standard DVDs will only be at 480p.

Yes it would work on both of the sets. As already pointed out you do not have a 1080p tv so everything is going to be at the highest possible resolution of the set in question.

Also you need to make sure that any player you might buy has the connections you want/need to use.

Good call on the "employee", you could have them load your car although I am not even sure about that.

Thank you for the correct information. I know my buddies at dvd talk would set things right.

Which player do you guys suggest Iam looking to be on a budget. How important is live 1.1 compatibilty

If I use hdmi on my 720p tv will sd dvds be shown in 720p or just standard resolution?

Thnks for the help

If you poke around, there are some pretty good prices right now on the Sony BDP-S350, which is an excellent player. And I really like the Panasonics. The DMP-BD35 would be an excellent choice if it meets your budget requirements. I have the previous model of Panasonic and it has been flawless for me.

And the anal retentive side of me would like to add: It's spelled Blu-ray.
