I don't want to come off as a Columbia House shill, but you really should consider joining. With BOGO(sometimes buy 1, get multiple free) codes and free shipping, you would be able to get this title for well under $10. If interested, check out the DVD Clubs forum for CH discussion.

The 2-disc SE (both DVD and Blu-ray) should've been Batman Anthology-quality, but from what I'm hearing the BD isn't a huge step-up in terms of extras... aside from the live commentary on BD-live.
I'm sticking with the single-disc WS (until a better 2-discer comes out) from WHV's own site. Preordered it when that 30% off sale was in effect for a low $13.96, and I might get it before street date.

The CC edition comes with the Why So Serious? cover art and an exclusive TDK journal. No details on what the journal is, probably just the production notes. Best Buy will have many editions of the movie. Some sets will include a Batman mask, or a Joker Bank Robbery Mask, or a Batman and Joker figurines plus the free poster you get with your pre order. For more on the BB sets, see Superherohype.com. I'm waiting to hear what Target will get. Usually Target gets bonus discs, especially with Warner Bros. DVDs.

Well Best Buy is having the typical Warner Brothers "Mask and Art Cards" gift set. (Big suprise. I called this before the movie was out in theaters...) Actually, they are having 4 versions. One clown mask, one batman mask, for dvd and blu-ray. (This I didnt expect). Also, you can get a free batman or joker figure. And dont forget if you pre-order you get one of two free posters. Yeesh.
And the guy saying there will be a Target mask gift set like Iron Man... NO. Dark Knight is WB, not Paramount. They wouldnt have similair products. And that just wouldnt work like a mechanical mask.

I took advantage of the b2g1 deal earlier this year and pre-ordered firefly. The original estimated shipping date was Nov 17 (released on Nov 11). I elected the free shipping. I would've gotten it on the 11th or 12th except the 11th was a holiday-no mail! I received it on the 13th.

I'm definitely getting the FYE steelbook and the Circuit City exclusive. A part of me is hoping Target doesn't have an exclusive, because I'd rather not buy three copies of the same movie, but if it's as cool as their Transformers, Incredible Hulk, and Clone Wars sets, then I'm just going to have to give in.
kstublen
11-29-08, 02:50 PM
where did you hear about the Target exclusive?
I didn't. I am just speculating that because Target had an Exclusive case for Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk that they will do a similar one for The Dark Knight.
And the guy saying there will be a Target mask gift set like Iron Man... NO. Dark Knight is WB, not Paramount. They wouldnt have similair products. And that just wouldnt work like a mechanical mask.
No need to be a jerk, as I am just speculating. And let's see...
Iron Man: Paramount (Target got an exclusive Iron Man Mask package)
The Incredible Hulk: Universal (Target got an exclusive Hulk Wall package)
The Dark Knight: Warner Bros. (Target could get an exclusive Mask package)
I don't see why they couldn't have similar products even though they are different studios. I also don't see why it wouldn't work. They could do something similar to the Amazon.co.uk Exclusive:
That looks pretty damn similar to the Target Iron Man Package. I am not saying I know for sure, but I think that Target might release something similar. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong...but considering they've already released two similar exclusives, I think it's within the realm of possibility that they would also release something for The Dark Knight.

It's very possible that Target won't get an exclusive, but I think that'd be kind of weird considering they have gotten some pretty good exclusives for all the other movies this year. I don't really see the point in multiple covers for a DVD release. In that case I'd pick the one I liked best (assuming all else is equal) but apart from making the disk noticeable on the store shelf and "cool", what's the point? I store my DVDs in a shelf like books, so the only time I see the cover is during the seven seconds it takes to pull the disk out.
I'm more into bonus content or goodies, but nowadays it takes a lot of stuff (or the right stuff) to make me drop the extra bucks.

I'm just curious as to why you keep posting? If you didn't like the movie, why even come in and post? And if you did like the movie and only want to get one copy of it, then that's fine. But if others want to get several copies of the same movie, that should be fine too. Does it REALLY affect you on such a personal level that you feel the need to come into the thread and attempt to insult people?
I know I will be purchasing three copies of it. I want it on Blu-ray and think the Bat Mask will be cool. I also like SteelBooks, so I am going to pick that up on DVD. And then I want the Circuit City version because of the cover and because it is supposedly going to have some other bonus features. Does it bother you that I want these different versions? It isn't like I am wasting your money or anything, so I really don't see why you keep going on about it. People collect DVDs, it's a hobby. And especially with something like Batman I am even less surprised seeing as how Batman (not this latest movie, but the Batman franchise as a whole) has such a large following.

I have to say, I'm disappointed so far in the store exclusives all being package variants. The mask does nothing for me, and I haven't gotten into Steelbooks. The Joker art at Circuit City is interesting, but I haven't had a great experience there in a while, and don't imagine the drive will be worth it to get one. I was actually hoping there would be a slipcased edition with a comic to match my "Batman Begins" set. Since there doesn't appear to be any difference in content, I'm leaning toward pre-ordering from Amazon. Currently, it's $20.99 for the 2-disc DVD with a low-price guarantee in case they drop the price any between now and then.

The figurines will not be free. According to the ad, the only "freebie" will be a The Joker playing card. It appears that you will have to buy the figurines for $9.99 a piece.
Is circuit city going to have a blu-ray version of that cover as well?
I would pick it up if so...

That I don't know, but, notice that it says it includes a Bonus Journal, so, it looks like I'm actually in for three total copies. I've already sold one of them, as I'm only going to get the single-disc from Best Buy, because I've already pre-ordered it to get the Batpod poster, and I'll get to keep The Joker playing card. I need to come up with one more $3.00 off coupon from Papa John's!
Here's what I'm in for, so far:
Single-Disc from Best Buy (of which I've already sold the DVD, but, get to keep the Batpod poster and The Joker playing card).
2-Disc Limited Edition w/Batman Mask packaging from Target
2-Disc Limited Edition w/The Joker cover and Bonus Journal from Circuit City.
I want the Steelbook from F.Y.E, but, since I haven't pre-ordered, I doubt they'll have any left. I'll have to call them tomorrow to find out.

I came across these on Best Buy Canada's website (the US site has image placeholders) and should give consumers an idea as to what the Gift Sets will look like come next Tuesday:
If Circuit City has the Blu-ray version of The Joker slipcover and the Bonus Journal, I'm in. I read a review somewhere that the DVD transfer was somewhat disappointing, so it's BR or broke for me.

This is kind of a silly question, but how limited do you guys think the "batpod" BD set is?
Do you think it's one of those show up when the store opens and hope to get lucky or more a permanent thing that will be around for awhile?
I love this cover. I'd buy it at CC if they have it for Blu-ray too. If not it will be whoever has lowest price.
The Joker bust at BB is pretty cool too.

Count me in the "Why So Serious Cover or Cheapest Option" Blu-ray crowd. However, since it's not listed on their site or anywhere else yet, I'm not terribly hopeful. :(
That artwork design is fantastic. I actually think I prefer that to the Joker Card art as a DVD / Blu-ray cover.

I just made my decision. Target Blu-Ray mask. Takes up less space, and I already have the Iron Man and Hulk exclusives... Gotta loves all the different options we have though. Lots of these are way cool...
My BB is doing the midnight thing (they didn't for Iron Man) but it's the farthest location from me. If it was my local store, I might go...

I see the term 'limited edition' as being relative where The Dark Knight is concerned. With the exception of Wal-Mart, just about every other retailer I've checked (including Amazon.com, Best Buy, Circuit City & FYE) will be stocking this item. It's anyone's guess as to the actual print run and retail allocation numbers, but given that this is the highest grossing movie of this year and with its release set at the midpoint of the holiday shopping season, I don't believe that it will be difficult to find (unless you've left your shopping till the 24th). I'm actually thankful for the various store exclusives because I'm not a fan of the Batpod.
I say that if it's something you want, just pre-order it and pick it up at your convenience at the customer service counter on the day of its release - problem solved. This way, you don't have to endure the elbowing and shoving customers when the store opens. -wink-

Circuit Shitty if they have that cover for the Blu-Ray, Target exclusive if they don't. Too bad Target didn't offer HULK with their exclusive packaging on Blu-Ray, but I have to support any retailer that offers the choice of BD or DVD, when too often it's only the latter. :p
Haven't been feeling any of the Best Buy mini-busts (DK, IRON MAN, CRYSTAL SKULL) -- they should have made the Clown mask larger, like their V FOR VENDETTA exclusive! -- and I might have picked up the Bat-Pod if it was the Tumbler.

from my experience, there should be no problems with pre-ordering this given that you have almost a week before release date. i guess it could vary by store, but im guessing these will be plentiful, like all the latest fye exclusives.

Circuit City for the Joker slipcover if they have it for Blu. I got the Target Iron Man head the first time, and its cool for about 5 minutes...then you realize it doesnt fit on the shelf, it takes up a lot of room, fairly cheap looking, etc etc...not going to bother with the Batman head.
Ive got to agree on the Batpod...they still had rows upon rows of the V for Vendetta mask set, the Clerks Moobys Mean box, etc for over a year after the release, and practically giving them away at some point.

I dont need to get this as a holiday gift for anyone so I'm going to wait. With so many different versions, I have a feeling every store is going to have extra stock left over and I smell fire sales later on next year. I have no doubt there will be a buying frenzy for The Dark Knight this holiday season, but after a couple of months no one will be picking this up. (But me, hopefully, for a discounted price.)

I agree - I'm over getting some of these exclusives. I'm interested in extra video content or exclusive print items (not "mini" versions of existing books... I'm still wondering what this "journal" is in the CC set and thinking it might be an excerpt from the hardcover book I already have) and, in some cases, a steelbook version, if available.
I did not like the Iron Man mask at all. The Bat Pod case looks similar and the Bat Pod does nothing for me. If I wanted a Bat Pod, I would've already bought one.

I don't care about any of the store exclusive packages, so I'm just looking for the best price. Seems like Amazon has the best deal for the 2-disc SE dvd ($20.99) assuming I can add something else to get free shipping. All the b&m stores have higher prices (except for maybe Walmart). Are there any better deals for the SE dvd?

Its usually when a store opens at midnight on the day of release to sell an item legally as early as possible.

I doubt they're of good/high quality. I remember seeing the little busts that Best Buy sold with the Indiana Jones Crystal Skull DVD, and that looked cheap. I think they also had an Iron Man bust, which also looked small and low-priced. I believe the busts are made of plastic.

Will they allow us to buy one of each of the Joker and Batman figures at Best Buy, or will they make us choose between the 2 figures?
I've never heard of Best Buy limiting DVD purchases
I'm really torn between these two exclusives....
Target always claims to have additional bonus features but it's true sometime....
Maybe with some miracle their bat mask has the 2 exclusives from the blu-ray....
Or something else, that would be nice....
The FYE steelbook is possible too but I'm not a fan of the cover....
But it does have the rebate plus I already have the $3 off papa john's coupon....
For the Target Batman mask, you better check it out yourself first before you make the decision. Last time I bought the Hulk exclusive wall breaking case, it was so lame. You can also check out this site to see if someone bought it ans post pictures of how the case looks like. I think the CC Joker cover is better. You can even order it online in CC now. Better get there early to pick up one.

I have decided and will pick up the Batman Mask from Target Blu-ray edition.
The other covers are nice, and I would really love to get all the exclusives with this release, but obviously can't

First off, is the Papa John $3 coupon good for Blu-Ray? The coupon just says "this side for widescreen, this side for full frame"
I'm just getting the cheapest BD version. Wow a free poster or Joker card? Not worth driving to BB for IMHO...If the bonus exclusive crap was sold separately I'd never buy it. They suckered me in before for things like $5 worth of Begins bonus junk...(probably coming soon to ebay)
The Indiana Jones Crystal Skull Target Blu-Ray Exclusive making of book was nice, the BB Crystal Statue was worth it (to me), the old Matrix set with the Neo bust and cool case was a nice set. The recent Masters of horror season set in a skull is a cool idea. They know TDK will sell no matter what so they didn't put much thought into the bonus items IMHO...I almost bit on the batpod display but for $25, I'll pass. The Walmart Harvey coin is cool, but from what I read, not with Blu-ray???

is there any word on what Best Buy will be giving away at the special midnight releases?
I asked a Best Buy employee about a couple weeks ago, and he said they were just giving those pre-order posters away to people who show up. But things could have changed since then.
I think the flier said there'd also be prizes, but I don't know what those may be.

Any have a picture of the FYE steelbook?
You could also go to the FYE website, I believe it's just that familiar picture of Batman on the batpod.

I had thought about that as well, as I also don't like the Batpod artwork, but I still think Steelbooks are nice and neat to have -- normal DVD packaging, whether it's the soft paper or plastic cases just get beat up too easily, and I take good care of my DVDs.
The Target case looks interesting, but also looks flimsy -- I think the interior could have been designed better.

I'll be heading over to my local FYE early Tuesday to pick up the steelbook. I didn't reserve a copy but I'm not too worried as there are still Steels of Iron Man and Indy 4 in there.
I thought of doing the same thing, just showing up to buy one, but I thought it would suck to come in, expecting one and them being sold out.
I also wish they had used a better image for the front of it, but still, I like steelbook cases, and so I pre-ordered it.

I just can't get into the Target mask packaging. That just does not look cool to me. I got the Iron Man mask from there and regretted it...
I've already got the "normal" Blu-Ray from the WB Store and am torn on whether or not to bother getting a steelbook...
That German CD looks better than the US Blu-Ray CE Batpod...
I must be getting numb to this stuff. My favorite movie and I may not be getting any LE content with this release....

Does anyone know if there will still be slipcovers for the standard and 2-disc DVD editions?
Every store site I go to only show either the Batpod image or Batman in front of the burning builiding picture as the cover. I recall seeing pictures at, I think, this site showing a slipcover with a Joker image inside, or vice versa.

So any confirmation about extra material with the Target version?
I think the last three hero exclusive releases look pretty terrible at Target. The Iron Man mask Batman mask and especially the Hulk packaging look horrible. Actually this is one of the times the packaging caused me not to buy the movie. I would have bought the Hulk there for the extra features but the packaging was just to big and ugly. Ended up not picking that movie up at all.

I think you'd be fine with just the Blu Ray version you bought, especially since it has the most bonus features. Steelbooks, in general, are cool, but why pay that much for less features, and for DVD, not Blu-Ray? I don't have Blu-Ray, so I'm getting the steelbook, as I think it's the best exclusive available.

Ah, thanks. I do like that Joker picture that's underneath. If they had used that one for the exclusive Circuit City packaging, I would have gone for it. As of now, I'm getting the FYE steelbook and then the Wal-Mart single disc version that comes with the Harvey Dent coin.

WBshop.com has some pretty cool BAT-POD BLU-RAY specials. They all come with a keychain thing that shines the Bat Signal (worth $9.50). Anyway, check it out...
I called Best Buy to inquire about the midnight release and the guy said he only had one other call about it today and that they would have plenty of copies, specifying 700 for the Blu-ray version. He said they had like pins to give away and some shirts, but wasn't sure if the shirts were being sold as part of a bundle or given away too. Oh well, going to head down there with a friend early and see if there's a line or anything.

Hello, first post here. Didnt find out about this entire forum until now. This will be my new favorite place to visit!
I have a question, does anyone know if the advertised Target Exclusive TDK DVD contains bonus materials exclusive to Target?
The flyer is vague in stating if there are features exclusive to Target, like with the Huge Hulk DVD (which I got for that reason).
I'm on the fence of waiting until tomorrow to go to Target for extra features, or get TDK tonight at a moviestop.
Any help is much appreciated,
Tyler

Welcome to your movie paradise,
I've read (in one of the dozens of dark knight threads i've looked at ) that someone saw a commercial on it and they said something like "commercial shows their release will have target exclusive bonus material" take that for its worth as I personally haven't seen the commercial.

We won't know for sure until someone opens up a set and compares the features. Target is notorious for advertising exclusive content and not delivering.
By the way, if you're an exclusive fan, we have a weekly thread here detailing all of them.

Ah, I see. Since you already got the Blu-Ray standard one, you might as well just stick with it. But I guess it depends on how much you want the steelbook.
Any chance you could cancel your order for the standard one, or you actually have it in your possession?

Got it and already watched half of it. If I get the steelbook, it'll be more for a collecting thing. I may sell of the standard if I get the steelbook... maybe. There was no way I'd be waiting a couple of weeks to have this anyway.

Probably will pick up the following:
- FYE Exclusive SteelBook
- Best Buy Exclusive Blu-Ray Clown Mask Set (w/ Exclusive Joker Playing Card)
- Circuit City Exclusive "Why So Serious?" Joker cover and journal
- Walmart Exclusive w/ Harvey Dent Coin (and then re-gift the single-disc edition it comes with)
If Target truly has exclusive content, I'd be forced to buy that mask set from there as well, but I'd rather not, as the Iron Man one looked pretty cheap and flimsy.
I never go all-out like this but I'm too big of a fan of the movie to not do it.

But I want to watch this, I only saw it once in theaters. I'm watching Batman Begins as I type..

Just got back from the Best Buy midnight release in my area...
I got the Blu-ray with Clown Mask bust, as well as the Joker figurine. Passed on the Bat-pod edition, because I'm going to be getting the Mask packaging from Target in the morning.
Best Buy as giving away black t-shirts with the Batman logo made up of Ha Ha Ha's in white lettering. It says on the back: The Madness Begins on DVD & Blu-ray 12-9-08. Best Buy logo on left sleeve.
Also got an I Believe in Harvey Dent button and Joker playing card.

Went to Best Buy. It was listed as an "expanded" event, but the only thing expanded was the line into the store. All I got was a Joker card. The employees had all the t-shirts and buttons.
They did have a cool Batman logo shining on the building.
