Free shipping on box sets this weekend at CH.

Just received the email on 2 of my accounts thought it deserved it's own thread.

Yep, seems to be site wide. There is talk of it in the codes thread.

Dresden Files is 11.98 without entering any codes, I can't seem to get it to work with any B1G1 offers, so I might just order it by itself. Anybody have any other suggestions for that?

Posted this in the main sale codes thread:

EDIT: And I should have said you need to stack a B1G1 with the current box set free shipping deal for these prices:

For 1-fulfillment titles, subtract $15.15 from the cost to see the equivalent cost as a fulfillment.
For 2-fulfillment titles, subtract $25.51.
For 3-fulfillment titles, subtract $30.66.

Examples:

$2.94+9.95+20.97+20.97 = 9 DVDs plus 2 $20.97 box sets
=> box set cost of $20.97 is an equivalent of $5.82 each
[Example: Doctor Who: The Invasion of Time]

$2.94+9.95+23.97+23.97 = 9 DVDs plus 2 $23.97 box sets
=> box set cost of $23.97 is an equivalent of $8.82 each
[Example: Incredible Hulk Season 3]

$2.94+9.95+29.97+29.97 = 9 DVDs plus 2 $29.97 box sets
=> box set cost of $29.97 is an equivalent of $14.82 each
[Example: American Gothic]
[I should have waited to get the Speed Racer Collection this way, but I ordered it from DVDPlanet last week for about $25 (sale price). Only so many accounts I could fulfill, anyway...]

Box sets between $29.97 and $39.95 aren't as good a deal, IMO. I target about $15 for sets.
[Example: Steven Spielberg's Taken is $37.77, works out to $22.62. Still too pricy for me.]

However, once we get above $39.95 where things count for 2 fulfillments...

$2.94+9.95+41.97 = 8 DVDs plus 1 $41.97 box set
=> box set cost of $41.97 is an equivalent of $16.46
[Example: Sports Night Complete Series]

$2.94+9.95+52.17 = 8 DVDs plus 1 $52.17 box set
=> box set cost of $52.17 is an equivalent of $26.66
[Example: Shogun]

And in case you want a 3-fulfillment title...

$2.94+59.97 = 7 DVDs plus 1 $59.97 box set
=> box set cost of $59.97 is an equivalent of $29.31
[Example: Alfred Hitchcock Signature Collection]

Good through 11/30 at 11:59 p.m.

And the really nice part is... it works with the current set of codes, including the b1g1 (though the set can't be the free one unless someone discovers something to the contrary).

It shows $17.97 for Dresden Files: Season 1 on my account. You sure it is $11.98 ? if it is than order right away. Plus Box set should be priced at $19.95 or more in order to get a free one.

Yep, $11.98. If I enter any code, it shoots up to $17.97. Invaders Season 1 is acting similarly, but at a $15.98/$23 pricing.

Sorry about box sets not being free, but I am thrilled you posted this. I didn't know 'Friday 13th Series' was on out on DVD. I almost bought vcd copies off of E-bay last year.

I put Star Trek:OS in my cart that counted for 2 purchases. Thought I would get 2 free dvds. Only gives one. Stinks.

^ It ("it" is a singular pronoun) counts as 2 "fulfillment credits," not as 2 "purchases." Since the code is Buy 1, Get 1, you have to buy 2 to get 2.

Looks like codes may not work... at least for now. When I click the "details" link on any page I get taken to a list of box sets and do not get the code entry box.

Codes work. Just click the "Details" link on the part of the banner that says "DVDS AT 60% OFF" instead of the free shipping portion.

Probably too late, but I just signed up for a new account online in hopes of getting approved before this sale ends. I know the odds are better that my app will get lost, than getting approved. But I gave it a shot. Ordered 7 Dr Who titles...

Dunno if this was posted anywhere already, but you can get a free DVD just by changing your preference from PAPER to EMAIL. You'll probably only see this if you are set to receive Paper mailings. I couldn't just pick ANY DVD though. I had to pick from a list, but there were 3 pages to look through. Shipping free, too. I did this on my TV on DVD account...

^Interesting ken. This would be one good reason not to provide an email when applying over the phone. Might try this on my next account, thanks.

Getting Maltese free is a GREAT choice! This used to be a special priced item, and not available for free, but good thing that's changed, and can be used with codes like this.

EDIT: Weird. I think Maltese has dropped in regular price a little, but also because of the site-wide free shipping on sets, it is allowing this as a freebie too. I'll have to check after this sale is over to see if it jumps back to regular (40% off boxset @ $16.17) price and isn't a freebie anymore.

Another title which someone should try to get for free if they want it is How The West Was Won (Limited SE), which is now regular price of $59.95! They used to have both versions (this Limited one and the regular 3-disc), but the regular 3-disc has now dropped off the site and this is the only one remaining (not counting the BD version). I couldn't manage to get this for free, maybe someone can, probably wishful thinking though.

^I think I know what the heck is going on now!

This is a messed up site-wide thing on free shipping on sets. I think what they did to allow free shipping is to change the regular price of all sets to end in .95 like regular priced items! Look at all the price of boxsets, they all end in .95 now instead of .97 or .98 as usual. So this means there may be potentially many titles like Maltese Falcon which may fall in to this category now and can be free items Anyone have any other examples?

Unless I ate too much turkey and my mind is messing with me...

EDIT: Yeah, I'm confused, thinking and Txgiving don't mix Maltese Falcon was always treated as a set before and now it appears it isn't, or this sale is messing with it.
And maybe something I didn't notice before. Is there still a Special Club Price they use for boxsets, I don't see one, everything just says Club Price now? Maybe this changed with the site redesign and I didn't notice?

Does CH carry all the James Bond movies? For some reason, there's one I'm thinking of getting.

Seriously, though, I just searched through a bunch of titles that are really just 3-disc single movies and not season or box sets, but that always qualified as "sets," and none of them came up as free except the Maltese Falcon. As you said, it could have happened when they lowered the price from $29.95 to $26.95. Maybe CH is reconsidering their position on 3-disc movies as "sets" because of the new editions of The Incredible Hulk, etc..

Also, my go-to Special Club Price item was always Gormenghast, and now it just has "Club Price" and "Sale" prices.

On my account the "Details" text/link is on the part of the banner that shows Free Shipping. Clicking that delivers a list of titles... BUT, clicking *anywhere* on the "DVDs at xxx" part of the banner delivers the expected pop up for the code. How obtuse of them... Thanks!
