Journeyman - How it would have ended

Kevin McKidd Interview for 'Grey's Anatomy'

Possible Grey's Anatomy spoilers in interview. I just skimmed through for Journeyman info.

http://television.aol.com/insidetv/2...greys-anatomy/

'Journeyman' fans were so disappointed the show was cancelled. Can you tell us what would've happened?

[The creator] Kevin Falls told me ... that each episode was a procedural story where [my character, Dan Vassar] would help that person and get them back on track. All those people that he helps ... have to be in that position that Dan gets them into for his son. It's not about Dan. This is about Zack, Dan's son, who has some kind of special power. Whatever it is that's controlling this needs all of these people to be in a certain position or alignment for Zack, [so that] when he comes of age, his power erupts ... It was all about getting his son to the place that these people could help him achieve this power and help the world.

Excellent post. Journeyman ended as perfect as any canceled show could, but this is a nice insight into what might have been.

I think I like the Quantum Leap ending better.

Thanks for that link man, good to know what happens...I think some people were predicting something along those lines last year.

Sucks that we'll never get to see that. Sounds really entertaining.

Thanks for the post.

That would have been a nice ending, although it would have been interesting to see how well they would have been able to convey that (if the show ran several seasons, it would be impractical on many levels to get all of the "helped" people back onto the show for a series finale).

Now, where's my DVD release of what we did get?

I have no idea what in the hell the delay is. Other canceled shows have seen the light of day.

I like the end we got. It was small, subtle and touching. I wish more programs would show that kind of restraint.

I was wondering that myself. Studio 60 is out and it was on at the same time and canceled around the same time. Strange that this hasn't seen the light of day.

I still haven't brought myself to watch the final 2 episodes because I was annoyed at the cancellation. Might have to go back and do that sometime though.

I really liked this show. Would have loved to see it go longer.

It wont see a DVD release as unlike Studio 60, it doesnt star a has-been overrated hack.

You really should since it actually provides some closure.

I knew that everyone he saved was supposed to come together for a much larger purpose, but I didn't know it was supposed to be Zack!

This is the best article I've seen on 'what might have been':

I love that he saves Livia, planned on visiting current Livia, the season finale with his family disappearing...all of it just sounds like it could have been one of the greatest shows ever.

Meanwhile, My Name Is Earl keeps dragging...

I too want a DVD release.
Don't they think anyone wants it out?

If only QL actually ended. It didn't. It was a great series finale, but it didn't end the story at all.

Wow--an even better interview. I'm so sad this series was canceled. It really could have been something great.

It really is sad...McKidd is great, and that show could have been fantastic. It got the worst time slot at NBC...

On the other hand, we could have gotten an episode where he jumps to the present, but as an ER doctor who has a thing for ****y asian chicks...oh, wait...

It pretty much did...

Spoiler:
sam was the one who wanted to keep leaping, he fixed Al's situation, and is continuing to leap through time because after all, he didn't really want to return home.

Man that's really depressing. What a good interview. It sounds like that staff was just starting to gel when the strike hit. I never watched the final few, but now I may have to if I can find them. I had stopped at the two-parter with the young boy and his father story where Dan's brother found out in the end for real. Having heard it was the cancelled, I thought that seemed like a good point to let it be as that seemed like semi-closure.

What was its timeslot? I keep thinking after Heroes which was being there top rated show the year before which would have been a great timeslot.

I think it was the combination of 2 things:

1. It was against CSI: Miami and House (I think) which is VERY tough competition.

2. Numbers really dropped from Heroes to Journeyman, because Heroes was doing so well, which made NBC think people just didn't want to stick around.

Personally, I think they should have tried it in the Chuck slot. I still can't believe that show got picked up and Journeyman didn't. Not that Chuck is awful, I just don't think it is quite as good.

I think Heroes was tanking in its sophmore slumpy season (it was just awful) and failed retain even that audience into the 10pm slot. The 10pm Monday slot does not necessarily spell doom for an NBC show. Medium did quite well there IIRC. Journeyman just was not getting any real promotion from the network for the word go.

I'm glad I watched this when it was on. Aside from there not being a DVD set, it is extremely unlikely to show up in HD format again.

If you want to re-live Journeyman. All 13 episodes have been re-posted back onto Hulu.
