Prison Break may get 2 bonus episodes this season

If I'm understanding this story correctly, 20th Century FOX wants to make 2 more episodes in addition to the 22 for this season. However, FOX has not green lighted these episodes yet?..... Why would the studio want to make episodes that the writer's haven't even pitched stories for yet? I think there is plenty of time to make episode 22 the series finale.
The end could be near for "Prison Break."
The actors on the Fox drama have been notified by 20th TV that the filming schedule might be extended to accommodate production of two additional episodes.
"Prison" writers are yet to pitch ideas about the extra hours, but speculation is that they might serve as a conclusion to the four-year series.
If the two episodes are made, their fate is unclear as the network has not committed yet to air them, though conversations with the studio are under way.
Fox might run the bonus material as two additional episodes in the spring, though that is considered unlikely because "Prison" has struggled in the ratings this fall and the remaining six episodes of its original 22-show order weren't on the network's recently released midseason schedule.
A more plausible scenario has Fox airing the two episodes as a two-hour "event" next season, not unlike the "24" prequel this fall. Or the episodes might end up on the "Prison Break" DVD.

Glad that they are giving them room to tie up the loose ends since this appears to be the end.

I thought I'd read it was to end for sure after S5. Not terribly disappointed if this ends up being the last, but I'd like them to wrap it all up and finish with the Company storyline. Too bad this is doing badly ratings-wise. I think this season's story is much better that S2 or 3 combined.

I remember reading that the series was set to end after season 3, but then the writers outlined two additional seasons, and thus season 4 came along. Maybe the 2-episodes is a very condensed version of what was suppose to be the fifth season.
But if the show is ending I can't be too upset about it. The show has lasted YEARS beyond how far I think anyone though the premise could last.
