Have you tried BJ Switch yet? I did very well on it when I went in April, but not so well over this last weekend there. Regardless, it's pretty fun. Not sure what the house edge is - I imagine higher than regular BJ. Don't know if IP offers it, but the Royale and Bill's have it. I think I also saw it at Harrah's when I briefly walked through there.

What is BJ Switch? How does it work? I won't be in Vegas again until February, but I might check that out.

first, thanks for mentioning that you're going with ME to Vegas, you fucking self-centered asshole.
second, i hate BJ switch. Mostly because my last two experiences haven't been too different than normal blackjack. Draw to 18-20, lose to 19-21 anyway.
The game is played by getting dealt two separate blackjack hands, each with an equal bet in front if it (so $5 bet + $5 bet -- one for each hand). You can switch one card from one hand with another card from the other hand. For instance:
Hand 1: J 6
Hand 2: A 5
You would switch the A to hand 1 for a pat 21 (all blackjacks pay 1:1 so dont get excited) and the 6 to hand 2 for an 11 that you can now double.
Dealer 22's also push all hands, which is how they tip the house edge in their favor.
It's an interesting game but it's also higher variance because of the dealer-push-22 rule and because you'll be doing a lot more splitting and doubling than your normal blackjack game.
I mostly hate it because now you have to memorize two strategy charts -- your normal blackjack strategy chart and a "when to switch" strategy chart. Since I'm usually under the influence of alcohol when gaming, I prefer to play games where I don't have to think so much, which is why you'll find me playing 3 card monte outside the Golden Nugget.

if i don't care enough about you to tell people you'll be there, do you think these guys will?
Red Dog, I've played BJ Switch, and it was usually at O'Shea's when I did. I like it, but as ES said, it involves more thinking. When you've been drinking, that isn't necessarily a good thing. The one benefit to that game, though, is if you are starting out drinking for the night that's a good game to get started with (similar to Pai Gow) since there are quite a few push hands where you break even.

That's what I like about it - the thinking, even with the drinking (I'm still pretty solid playing when drunk). Plus with double the hands, it does slow things down a bit, which I also like.
One addition to Scorcho's write-up. You can't switch any 2 cards of your 2 hands - you can only switch the top-2 cards. So if you got A-6 in hand one (6 on top) and 4-K in hand two (K on top), you can only switch the 6 and the K, which in that scenario you obviously would.
I haven't memorized the BJ Switch strategy (hitting-splitting-doubling-stand) card yet - I know it's a bit different. I just play it far more conservative with the doubles and splits than normal BJ. The switching is usually self-evident.
And frankly, any game at O'Sheas is guaranteed fun times. They even got a beer pong table in the back now. One caveat - if you have a headache/hangover and that damn Leprechaun is up on the bar blowing that damn whistle, that can be hell.

The wife and I will be there that weekend as well. Will be playing some poker at the MGM Grand, most likely.

So, we are leaving tomorrow. Today I get a $1,500 and change check reimbursement from my mortgage company for overpayment of property taxes. Oh no. So dangerous now. So dangerous.

Had a crazy time in Vegas. Hit quads twice playing 2/4 limit at Imperial Palace on Sunday night. Within about an hour of each other. I got to spin their wheel thing and won $75 for the first spin and $100 on the next one. Even more gratifying was on the first one, I flopped it, and ended up trapping El Scorcho (2nd nut flush on my right) and another guy (nut flush on my right). Hello money!
I also hit 4 of a kind 2x and 2 straight flushes in Pai Gow. Amazingly after all of that, I ended up only breaking even for the trip. Fucking Harrah's!

Sounds like you had a good time. I was looking for trips in December and saw that I could get two nights at the Wynn with airfare for just over 500 bucks. Crazy!

i hit quads at oshea's after deftones left and got $112 for it
but that didn't quite make up for getting rolled all fucking week and missing 95% of my huge draws in large pots
you know, those great pots like when you flop top pair with a nut flush draw (think AKh on an As 5h 7h board) and everyone goes spew crazy and you never get there and lose somehow
or when you flop an open ended straight flush draw with JTs and the turn and river brick off
i've never lost at live poker ever but I got rolllllllllled by old people, asian people, drunk people, everyone
fuck poker imo

I just spent 12 days at the IP while working in Vegas. Got to know the bartenders well, I definitely could have hooked you up there. That Freddie Merc guy was pretty funny but he did a hell of a performance when I was there.
