Ouija Board and Battleship in development.

Grape Escape can't be far behind!

Wow That sounds horribly dumb. Everybody knows Uno would make a better movie. ;)

I thought we had already known that Scott was directing the Monopoly movie. I feel as though this news broke months ago...

What kind of plot could possibly attract Scott as a director, especially comparing it to Blade Runner?

I'm expecting the movie to contain a gun battle over whether or not Free Parking should have some monetary bonus attached.

It's gonna be like Blade Runner. Great, so it'll suck for ten years until they put out a better cut, and it'll take 15 more to hammer out the perfect version. The narration's going to be the worst:

"As I strolled along the board I bought up everything I could afford. Soon I'd amassed an empire, a hotel on every block and a crop of new houses. I had this cit in the palm of my hands. Meanwhile my rival the baseball glove kept landing on my property and having to pay me. I couldn't help but notice he wasn't very sporting about the rules. I guess that's what happens when you leave it up to Chance.

The suspense is already gone. Everyone knows that after the first 15 minutes
no one will ever pay 10% of their assets but opt for the flat $200 income tax.

The plot revolves around Mr. Shoe getting out of jail free...or does he?

I'm hoping they cast Shia LeBeuf as the Thimble.

In a world where the rich get richer and the poor mortgage their souls, one man is taking the fight to the streets. A rebel that relies on Chance and Free Parking to stay one step ahead of the power players and fat cats suddenly finds himself rolling the dice and risking it all in one final play. Can he avoid rolling doubles for the third time?

I want to see the elaborate CGI used for Water Works.

Tony Scott, surely. Surely?

Roman Polanski was originally going to direct it but he still hasn't turned in his "go directly to jail card" zing!

This will be like a horror movie with people yelling at the screen: "No, don't trust that dude! Don't give him Boardwalk...I don't care if he's offering three trips around the board. He'll screw you eventually!!!"

It will be an interactive movie, a la "Clue".

$$$$

I think when Parker Brothers saw that some video games were turned into big screen movies an exec. thought the same can be done with the board games.

Sounds like a bad idea but, I'll leave judgment until the final product. I remember when Heath Ledger was cast as the Joker and everyone went apesh*t. The end result may surprise you.

Brilliant!!!

This whole "Monopoly" movie idea reminds me of "Coupon: The Movie":

Yay, now hopefully the "Hungry Hungry Hippos" and "Barrel of Monkeys" movies aren't too far behind.

All jokes asside, my best guess of how this is being handled is that Scott wants to make some kind of satire/allagory of American business with a character like Gordon Gecko from Wall Street, and the feeling is that buy licensing the name "Monopoly" the name recognition would give the film some cache with audiences. Maybe even a period film (wasn't the game invented in the 1920's) about the exploitive business practices of American trusts and monopolies. There Will Be Blood but with real estate.

Damn, I should work in Hollywood.

Damn, I should work in Hollywood. The problem, of course, is that no movie that could really be taken seriously if it has the fucking Monopoly logo plastered all over it. Nothing would have killed a movie with the tone of "There Will Be Blood" like "Based on the game "Don't Wake Daddy" by Milton Bradley." in the credits.

PENNYBAGS: [Slowly, deliberately] I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. Boots mortgaging property to tiny dogs. Apartments torched on Baltic Avenue just for the insurance money. I watched someone roll triple sixes and land on Free Parking where a Get Out Of Jail Free card had been tossed into the kitty. All those moments will be lost in time, like a bank error in your favor. Time to die. [As the rain continues to fall, he drops his head and silently expires.]

Saturday nights on ABC, which usually meant complete shit. Hence why Twin Peaks was essentially murdered on that night in its second season.

Someone I knew once told me when they were young they had a Monopoly game going for some long amount of time. It was either a year or five years. Basically he and a neighbor had it on a table and they would just play it for awhile after school most days. One day the guy's dog destroyed it.

Ridley talks a little more, but does not shed any real light on the situation. However, there is an awesome quote about A Good Year.

The original source -- which is what JoBlo is citing -- is from my interview here:

I gotta say, they convinced me. I think the movie could be pretty cool and potentially dark.

“I have to direct it,” the Oscar-nominated director told MTV News.

Hmmm. can you say "contractual obligation"?
