This may prove to be the only Blu-ray I'll get to replace an HD DVD. Well, this and maybe King Kong, if it gets the "extended" cut and all.

Maybe.

Good news, though.

Are there features new to the Blu-ray that aren't on the HD DVD (I mean really new, not recomposed from the HD DVD) ... I already have the (initial) DVD release and the HD DVD release ... don't tempt me to get the Blu-ray too

DTS:MA will probably force me to upgrade this.

Nice! Universal announced another title as well for the same day, right?
Edit: Scratch that. The other title is apparently not coming.

Also (I'm not home so I can't check) does this include the extra features found on the 2 Disc DVD edition of Serenity in the cool packaging?

Whedon said last year he had done picture-in-picture commentary with the cast, so maybe this is it.

I already have WS, WS CE, and HD DVD. I hate to quadruple-dip, but I could suck it up for this one.

Same here, however the DD+ on the HD-DVD release is insane.

I'm expecting the DTS MA track to shatter the glass in my house.

Nice. DTS HD-MA plus the new extras from the 2-disc DVD. I'll definitely be replacing the HD-DVD with this.

Firefly is Fox, Serenity is Universal. Chances for a set are not good especially considering they have never done it for DVD.

Not only that, Firefly comes out next week while it still almost 2 months till Serenity. Universal should have releases Serenity at the same tie - even if they are not from the same studio it would have helped sales.

It appears the extras from the 2-disc dvd are included. But I think some of the featurettes have been put in the U-control feature.

He was talking about Serenity because it was an interview in conjunction with the release of the CE. He mentioned that the new commentary (new for the CE, I believe, though I haven't opened mine yet) would be picture-in-picture in high def.

So on closer examination, sounds like the commentary is not totally new content but the PiP aspect would be.

Yes, I'd rather spend 20 bucks on the quadruple-dip than some kind of FF figurine

Heh, you're already behind in your Serenity colleciton if you don't also have the R2/4 (Aussie) DVD with the "extra" extras (the ones not on the R1 DVD, or the HD DVD) in the cool collector's tin.

I don't know if any of the R1 releases (SD, HD, BR) have the 40 minute Joss Whedon Q&A session from Fox Studios in Sydney, but I know the R2/4 release does.

I own the original one disc and I love the movie/show. So far, this will be the only movie I upgrade from DVD.

After being let down with other Universal BRs (I'm looking at you Thing) I'll wait for reviews before I ditch my HD-DVD.

I'm drawing the line at the quadruple-dip.

What's wrong with The Thing? I was never able to get it on HD DVD so I was really looking foward to the BD.

I've already quintuple-dipped on this release, so the BD would be the 6th and last time.
