I guess Dobson is a prophet now. I haven't finished reading it, but I wonder what Dobson's "Letter from 2008 in Bush's America" would have looked like in 2000.

I guess Dobson is a prophet now.

Not exactly.

This letter is not “predicting” that all of the imaginative future “events” named in this letter
will happen. But it is saying that each one of these changes could happen and also that
each change would be a the natural outcome of (a) published legal opinions already
written by liberal judges, (b) trends already seen in states with liberal-dominated courts
such as California and Massachusetts, (c) recent past promises, practices, and legislative
initiatives of the current liberal leadership of the Democratic Party and (d) Senator
Obama’s previous actions, previous voting record, and previous public promises to the
far-left groups that won the nomination for him.

I think he's full of BS, but I don't blame him for not wanting the rest of the country to be run like Massachusetts. We're in the middle of yet another state senate scandal.

I'll bet good money that a letter about 2008 from 2000-Dobson would still have Justice Stevens still on the SCt. ;)

I'm not as down on Dobson as I am on a lot of his contemporaries. I very much like that he took his foundation out of tax exempt status so he could do things political, rather than be like the others who do it anyway and try to keep the tax free status.

But it isn't much different than the Gloom and Doom Prophets that chanted "Anyone But Bush" etc. All the radical opponents imagine the worse possible scenario and run with it.

Except that it will happen with Obama, so this may be different.

 I keed, I keed.

I like this prediction:

(18) Pornography: “The land of the free”? It’s almost impossible to keep children from seeing pornography. The Supreme Court in 2011 nullified all Federal Communications Commission restrictions on obscene speech or visual content in radio and television broadcasts. As a result, television programs at all hours of the day contain explicit portrayals of sexual acts.

I especially like that the new Supreme Court will find legal precedent from foreign court cases.

Yeah I remember similar warnings of reinstating the draft and abortion becoming illegal etc. when Bush won.

Yeah, Dobson's idea of what constitutes 'free' is most curious.

 at the notion that ABC, NBC, etc are going to be airing hard-core porn in the afternoon.

Not exactly.

Yeah... Iran will launch a nuclear missile at Israel in 2010 is simply a calculated assumption based on past events. :)

I wonder what Dobson's "Letter from 2008 in Bush's America" would have looked like in 2000.

Dear 2008 James:

You will spend the first half of 2008 arguing that nobody should vote for John McCain and the second half of 2008 arguing that everyone should vote for John McCain. No, it won't make much sense in 2008 either.

Sincerely,

2000 James.

P.S. Try to get on good terms with Cardinal Ratzinger. Trust me on this one.

If #18 came true, TV Ratings would go through he roof. It would kill off the porn industry, though. :)

Dobson strikes me as the kind of guy who, had he lived centuries ago, would have posthumously been found to have been first driven mad, then killed, by syphilis.

AT&T's lets you record 4 channels at once, I believe. I think they'd have to recast the evening news though... Not sure I'd want to see that Naked News.

I like how his letter has footnotes.

Where does it say Christians are rounded up and people have the mark of the beast?

"Anyone But Bush" was the mantra in 2004. I don't remember that in 2000. ABB was a perfectly reasonable position considering Bush's preemptive attack on Iraq.

Today, Dobson riles up his base by predicting doom and gloom. Tomorrow, he'll be thanking them for heeding his warning, saying that their prayers kept President Obama from being able to carry out all the evils he'd intended. I am curious if he actually believes the nonsense he spews or if it's all just calculated to increase the strength of his following. I'd guess it's the latter, but maybe he's just a nut.

AWESOME!

This reminds me of the King of Queens epsiode where Arthur had never seen "Its a Wonderful Life"..when it was over, he was ranting and screaming about how the hell can they be happy when they got rid of all the whorehouses and taverns! LOL!

This is why I cant stand conservatism..not a fan of liberalism (I'm left of center) but conservatism ALWAYS rankles that liberals will go to the extreme..like Obama is gonna do some crazy shit like that all tv all porn all the time while he has two little daughters of his own who watch tv..god I hate these kind of people

Well it certainly seems like the last 4 years of conservatism and especially this year have been a campaign of fear. Scare America! Obama and the Godless Liberals are going to get you!

I can only read up to about page 8 (Acrobat Reader encountered an error), but it sounds great!

Dobson has just convinced me to vote for Obama! Abortions! Artificially inseminating lesbians! Pornography on TV! Overturning Miller vs California! Fucking AWESOME, Jimmy!

Jimmy needs to shoot a wad across his egotistic bow. This might relieve himself of his internal mutiny of retardation and disillusioned forecasting.

16 pages of Dobson is about 15 more than I am willing to take.

I trust it says something to the effect that Jesus will fall off His throne if Obama is elected and gays will be having sex in public parks and Arabs will be waving flags over national buildings, or something to that effect.

Here's the thing I don't understand about "Christians:" they don't want gay marriage and the liberals taking over because it will mean the end of the world, and Jesus will get so fed up He will have to return to put an end to it all. Isn't that what they want? If they think that's going to happen, why do they fight it? They don't want Jesus to return?

Of course, I didn't read Dobson's letter, but I just know there are so-called Christians who think that.

I remember there was guy at work... this was back in '03 when we were getting ready to invade Iraq... who was going on about how these were the end times, and how all of these signs were falling into place, and that the rapture was going to happen in the next four years.

And I said "So I guess that means you've stopped putting money into your 401k."

He just gave me a dirty look.
