Where can I get HKL dvds? It seems Amazon Uk has very limited selections.
In particular I am looking for 2 disc platinums of Way of the Dragon, Dragons Forever and Wheels on Meals

The Australian releases of all three HKL DVDs are available at EzyDVD.com.au:
Way Of The Dragon
Dragons Forever
Wheels On Meals
Whilst I don't personally have these I believe that they are identical to the R2 releases: no doubt one of the usual reference sites will confirm this.

I believe this company is now out of business so a lot of the releases have gone out of print in the last year or so. I've picked up a few releases from third party sellers on Amazon UK used.

Contender Entertainment Group took over HKL about four years ago. Around that time Bey Logan, HKL's commentary expert, left. Contender saw HKL sales going down and cut its losses by not pressing new DVDs of the HKL library. 15 years ago, another UK company that specialized in Hong Kong movies on VHS, Made in Hong Kong, shut down operations as business then declined. Information on DVDs of Hong Kong movies is at: http://adg.invisionzone.com/index.php?showforum=5.
The moderator of that site, Muldoon, did not have much good to say about HKL DVDs, stating that most were ports from laserdiscs. I though most of the DVDs I got from HKL were fine, I liked Bey Logan's commentary and some of the HKL DVD extras were real interesting. I still can't figure out why there was that annoying background music during the interview with Josie Ho on the Purple Storm DVD. Good thing I bought the HKL version of Iceman Cometh, that movie is now unavailable even as a Universe DVD.
It did not help HKL or Contender that the US dollar took a plunge against the Bristish pound two years ago, making it more expensive for US customers, some already turned off by the thought of buying PAL format Region 2 DVDs.
If they can get the rights, the Weinstein's Genius Productions DVD company will probably release Meals on Wheels some time in the future. But don't bet on it.
