I must be missing something... $50 for a $50 card doesn't sound like a "deal" at all... $40 for a $50 card would be something...
What gives?

Is anyone having trouble with games for download? Since I got my arcade stick I thought I'd get that Tekken DR. I've downloaded it twice and I get an error when I try to install it. Maybe the third time will be the charm.
Oh well, I guess when it comes to PSN, you get what you pay for. ;)

Oh well, I guess when it comes to PSN, you get what you pay for. ;)I downloaded four demos and add-on content things tonight and had no problems with anything. For that matter, I don't think I've ever had a corrupt download or install. I know I haven't experienced XBLA, but (save for the slow downloads) I have had great experiences with PSN. It's made me a convert to online gaming, which I had always poo-pooed on before.

PSU is the Playstation Underground. http://www.us.playstation.com/
There you can register your playstation hardware and software. Sign up for announcements. Go to their forums. Check the playstation blog. A few weeks back they had a signup for the Resistance 2 beta and are now sending out the codes. They also had codes for the LittleBigPlanet beta and other stuff.
The PSN card is basically a gift card for the playstation network. Sorta like Xbox points or Wii points. You can use the card to purchase downloadable content for your PS3. Some are happy about this because it means they can make a purchase without having to use their credit card online. Others are happy because it means an increased possibility of getting PSN credit at a discount and therefore ultimately getting a better deal on DLC.

Is there a way to block trophies for those who couldn't give a shit?
I mean, I have to wait for them to load each time I fire up a game, which is crap - I'd rather not have to do that. Even on the 360 I've turned off the achievement notification.

I played GTA IV through to the end of the main storyline but still have a lot of the police and other side quests to do. This is where it would be nice to be to play any mission you've already complete.
Oh well, I used the cellphone cheats like crazy the first time so maybe I'll play the game straight up again since I assume the cell phone cheats would disable the trophies anyway.

Okay...long story short...I got another PS3. This time it is the 80GB MGS special that has BC! Yah! I got it off ebay for a fantastic price (if you don't know about the current 25% special at Ebay using Live Cashback...well you should).
Some quick questions. Since this was a used PS3, the guy who sold it to me included MGS naturally and also included the code for Pain. The kicker is he already downloaded it and the code no longer works. He did the hard drive wipe before he sent it and I can't seem to figure out if I can even get the game or not. Are downloaded games linked to your PSN account? It was likely on his and since it has been wiped, is there any way he can transfer it to me or is it lost to the internet gods?
I know this is a question that has been asked a million times but is there a list somewhere of exclusives for the PS3 and any ya'll consider must haves? If it is a game on both consoles, they will always be bought for the 360 but I would be interested in checking out some of the PS3 exclusives. I popped in MGS last night and played thru the first couple of levels. Man that game looks fantastic.
I DESPISE the PS controller but I guess I will have to get used to it. It is nice having the dualshock though and at least it feels a little heavier than the non-dualshock. Does anyone make a decent 3rd party controller for the PS3 that is patterned after the 360 controller?
I am actually most excited about getting to play God Of War I and II finally. I never owned a PS2 so I plan to pick up some of the must have exclusives for that system as well (Shadow of Collossus as well. Any others highly recommended?).
Does the first Guitar Hero and GH: Rock The 80's work fine with the PS3? If so, do you need a PS2 guitar or a PS3 guitar or do both work? Just curious if I find them cheap.
And finally, do you guys use the normal or full screen mode for your PS2 games? And do you turn smoothing on?
I know that is a lot of questions but thanks for the insight and opinions in advance.

Let's see... PSN games are tied to accounts, so you're not going to be able to get PAIN. That is unless he's willing to give you his email address and password and then you could share the game from him.
As for exclusives, there's a list on AVS on current and future PS3 exclusives. (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=858296) As far as recommended games, Uncharted is always highly recommended. As is Ratchet and Clank. I really enjoy Warhawk as well as Buzz Quiz. LittleBigPlanet is the new hot title which is really impressive. As far as PSN exclusive titles, you should check out Pixeljunk Monsters as well as Eden, although Monsters is probably more friendly. The Last Guy is also fun.
As far as GH and stuff, I don't know the answers to those questions. But, on PS2 games, I have been using full screen mode. Not sure about video smoothing.

Pain is worthless...no big loss.
PS2 Guitar Heroes are problematic at best on PS3, and I have the 60Gb. Guitars no workie. But the good news is that Rock Band has been positively walking all over Guitar Hero for the past year. I'd pick up RB2 disk only, rent RB1 to extract the tracks, and get a GH3 Les Paul used at Gamestop for $30.

I never understand statements like that. Sure, you can prefer the 360's controller over the ps3 one, but to DESPISE it? I rather like it. Certainy the D pad is significantly better -- it's essentially useless on the 360's controller. I also prefer the DS3's convex textured stick heads over the 360's concave dimpled ones. I didn't like the sixaxis as it was too light and the missing feedback was a big deal to me, but the DS3 is pretty fine in my book.

It just feels so small and cramped in my hands. It's not like I have huge hands but just normal average size hands. It just doesn't feel very comfortable when I am so used to the 360's controller. The triggers and bumpers on the Dualshock especially suck if you are used to the triggers and bumpers of the 360. The sticks seem too far in and um...I just hate this controller. I don't have one good thing to say about it except that the rumble works well.

I know exactly what you mean and that's a great way to put it. It was fine when that's all there was, but the 360 controller blows it away, d-pad notwithstanding. That's broken functionality, but form factor is light years ahead and, really, that's one of the most important properties of a video game controller.

Of all things, a controller would be the easiest thing to despise. I can't imagine despising a console itself, but it's pretty easy to hate how something feels and controls in your hands. Not really any different from despising the way, say a Mouse on the PC, feels and functions.

Multiplayer would have come at a price. The single player game would have suffered and the single player game could use a little work. My thought is multiplayer shouldn't be done until the single player game is near 100% like half life.

It's not a run and gun FPS. It is slow, atmospheric and deliberate. Multiplayer would essentially go against everything the game represents.

I really like the PS3 controller, though I still prefer a keyboard to anything else for FPS. I don't like the 360 controller....it sort of reminds me of the Jaguar controller from back in the day.
Glad to see someone (Drexl) posted the controller conversion...pretty cool stuff.
Functionality is very limited (but certainly better than the 360's). It is nice to have if you play Singstar, as it'll make videos of your performances that you can actually share online via the PSN. If you have LittleBigPlanet (and if you own a PS3, you should), you can use it to take pictures that you can turn into stickers and apply on anything in any level. It's pretty cool. If, however, you aren't planning on either of those games, it's pretty useless.

I'm thinking of picking up a PS3 when I'm back in the US for the holidays in December (I live in Japan.) I had been on the fence about this for a while but was finally swayed to get one when I learned the US and Japan are in the same region for Blu Ray discs :)
My dilemma now is working out which version to buy. From the wikipedia page I see the newest versions are missing feature found on previous models:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_3#Retail_configurations
Seem the only versions being manufactured now are not BC (not a big deal for me as I don't have a PS2), have fewer USB slots, no flash card reader (not sure I would every use this) and no SACD support (not even sure what this.)
Any recommendations on which version I should buy? Are the new versions improved in any way apart from the increased hard drive space?

I'm not sure if the new version is BC, but Amazon has the limited-edition Gunmetal grey Metal Gear Solid 4 Kojima Bundle (http://www.amazon.com/Playstation-Metal-Solid-Kojima-Bundle-3/dp/B001IZIAK8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1225348356&sr=8-2) 40 GB model for $399.99 next week. Seems like a hell of a deal on a very nice collector's edition that sold for $600 a few months ago.

I adore my PlayStation 3. It’s easily the best Blu-Ray player on the market and there are a lot of great games on it to enjoy. However, there is a hardware issue I have that has yet to be resolved.
The problem is (as I recently discovered) twofold. Both issues relate to the audio output of the PlayStation 3 via HDMI.
The first relates to listening to CDs. Whenever I play an audio CD on my PlayStation 3, rather than output the signal as 2-channel signal to my Onkyo TX-SR705, the PlayStation 3 sends the signal as if it were a 7.1-channel signal. This is problematic because my receiver is then “tricked” into thinking it’s receiving a true 7.1 mix and therefore disallows the use of any of its surround decoders. In reality, only the left and right speakers are receiving any audio whereas the other 5.1 channels are silent.
At first, I thought the aforementioned issue was the same I was experiencing when play PlayStation 1 & PlayStation 2 titles on my PlayStation 3. My PlayStation 3 was also misrepresenting the audio on those games as 7.1-channel mixes. Because of this, games that were encoded in Pro-Logic II were not benefiting from said decoding from my receiver. In addition to that, any PlayStation 2 games that featured cinematics with 5.1-channel audio (such as Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty) were playing silent during the 5.1 capable scenes.
This is when I stumbled on the crux of the issue as regards the audio when playing back older titles. The HDMI is acting as if it were the AV MULTI OUT of a PlayStation 2 rather than the Digital Out (Optical). That is why when I play Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening, rather than getting silence (as is the case with Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty), the audio that is output through the HDMI is the two channel mix that would be heard from the AV MULTI OUT if I were playing the game on a PlayStation 2.
There is a rather cumbersome workaround for the 2-channel audio (you have to unselect all audio output above 2 channels in the PlayStation 3’s Audio Output Settings) but no workaround whatsoever for the 5.1-channels issue.
I believe these audio issues could and should be corrected in a future firmware update.

Hello ,
Thank you for writing us.
The PLAYSTATION(R)3 computer entertainment system will support audio technology such as Dolby
Digital 5.1 ch, DTS 5.1 ch, LPCM 7.1 ch, AAC, and others.<1> <2> To playback sound recorded on your
DVD/software in Dolby Digital (AC-3) or DTS format to reproduce the effect of listening in a movie
theater or concert hall, you must connect to audio equipment with the ability to decode DTS or Dolby
Digital sound (sold separately). You must connect the component via the DIGITAL OUT (OPTICAL)
connector using an optical digital cable (sold separately).
<1> A device compatible with Linear PCM 7.1 Ch. is required to output 7.1 Ch. audio, supported by
Dolby TrueHD or a similar format, from the HDMI OUT connector.
<2> With system software version 2.30 or greater, DTS-HD Master Audio and DTS-HD High Resolution
Audio output is now supported.
To utilize the "DIGITAL OUT (OPTICAL)" feature of the PLAYSTATION 3 system, you should plug in the
(yellow) "Video" connectors only. You should also disconnect the Left and Right Audio (white and
red) connectors that may be installed into your television/stereo. Every setup can vary depending
upon the make and model of your equipment, so there may be exceptions to this. One such example
would be when you may be using an RFU adapter to relay the video and sound information to the
television.
NOTE: The PLAYSTATION(R)3 system allows you to configure the audio output settings independent of
the display output settings. You may need to make sure the correct audio out setting is selected
for your installation.
1. To choose the audio output setting go to the Settings icon.
2. Navigate down to Sounds Settings and press "X".
3. Navigate to Audio Output Settings and press "X".
4. You will be then prompted to choose from "AV Multi Out port", "Digital Out (Optical)", or "HDMI."
Highlight the output port of you setup and press the right direction button. If you choose "HDMI"
go to step 5. If you choose "Digital Out (Optical)" go to step 6.
5. If you choose "HDMI", you will be given the option to choose "Automatic" or "Manual."
- Automatic: The PLAYSTATION 3 will automatically choose the method for setting the audio output
format. Highlight "Automatic" and press the right direction button.
- Manual: You are able to manually choose the audio output formats supported by your display or
AV amplifier (receiver). Highlight the audio output option and press the "X" button on the option
you wish to use and make sure the check box is checked. Once you are done, press the right
direction button. If you are uncertain what to choose, please consult the manufacturer of your home
theater equipment for additional assistance.
6. If you choose "Digital Out (Optical)," you will be give the option to select the output format
supported by the display or AV amplifier (receiver). Highlight the options and press the "X" button
and make sure the check box is checked. Once you are done, press the right direction button. If
you are uncertain which options to choose please consult the manufacturer of your home theater
equipment for additional assistance.
7. Once you are done, a summary of the audio outputs will be displayed. Press the "X" button to
save this setting.
8. The audio output of the PLAYSTATION(R)3 system will now output audio from the port you have
selected using the settings chosen.
Additionally, the audio output format for certain Blu-ray Discs(TM) or DVD media may be specified
depending on your display or AV amplifier(receiver). Go to "Settings" > "BD/DVD Settings". If the
audio output is coming from the HDMI port, select "BD/DVD Audio Output Format (HDMI)". If audio
output is coming from the Digital Optical Out port, select "BD/DVD Audio Output Format (Optical
Digital)". You will be able to choose between "Bitstream" or "Linear PCM". Please contact the
manufacturer of your display or AV amplifier (receiver) to determine what your display or AV
amplified (receiver) supports.

To check what version of the System Software is currently installed on your PLAYSTATION 3, from the
XMB(TM) menu go to [Settings] > [System Settings] > [System Information]. The system will display
the System Software version number. You can visit the following link to determine whether you have
the latest version installed.
Make sure to allow adequate ventilation to flow from the PLAYSTATION 3's vents (i.e., avoid
obstructing the vents with long/shaggy carpet, inadequate airflow from cramped entertainment cabinet
setups, etc.). Make sure to also keep the PLAYSTATION 3 away from excessive dust, smoke, steam,
extreme temperatures, humidity, or direct sunlight. Full details on Safety Precautions and Use and
Handling can be found in the PLAYSTATION 3 Instruction Manual.

That is a known issue. Many people on AVS have complained about it. Sorry, there's nothing you can do until they change this.
I prefer to keep stereo music as stereo (but with the subwoofer handling the low bass), so the way it is now would work for me. However, even those of us that don't want to use surround processing could be affected. Some receivers won't even apply bass management to a lossless multichannel signal, and with this issue the subwoofer would be silent on such a receiver.

10/30 update is up. Looks like mostly demos. We have Mirror's Edge (downloading now), WWE Smackdown vs. RAW, Silent Hill, and Tom Clancy's EndWar (all in the queue). Didn't look beyond that to see what else was released, but I didn't see any new full games for download. Maybe I checked in the middle of the update, cause I thought there were some new games due today too.

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but I noticed that the clock on the PS3 was an hour ahead, and stayed that way after changing it via the internet. I had the "Daylight Saving" option selected instead of "Standard," so when I changed it, it became correct (and would update online to a correct time as well).
I thought the option was for whether your area uses DST, but I guess it refers to whether the time in your area is currently DST or Standard time. So, do I have to change this every six months to keep the clock correct?

So, I made a mistake last night. I didn't know it was a mistake at the time though. I bought 2 $20 PSN cards with store credit at Blockbuster. I had to pay tax on the transaction but didn't think too much of it. I then redeemed the card and made a purchase to take advantage of the temporary price drop on Siren. To my 'horror' I was charged tax again. My $40 in PSN cards cost me an extra $3+ in tax.
If purchasing the cards was like purchasing a gift card, then we wouldn't pay tax at the register but tax on the PSN purchase, which I am fine with. However, since they are selling them like Wii Points cards and Microsoft Points cards, you are paying tax upon purchase and then tax on using them which I think is total BS.
If you live in an area with no sales tax or buy the cards from Amazon, then carry on. Otherwise avoid the cards unless they are a gift or you get a really good deal on them.
I also wasted about 20 minutes talking to support at the Playstation store and went two levels up the chain of command. All of it was a complete exercise in futility.
pinata242
11-06-08, 09:49 AM
Is this because PSN doesn't have its own form of currency like Wii Points and Microsoft Points, but rather straight cash money?
Paying tax on the cards at POS makes sense, obviously. But not if you're going to have to pay tax on the $$$ purchase on the online marketplace.
Mok
11-06-08, 09:52 AM

11-06-08, 10:25 AM
Just went to the bestbuy website to try to order one and got the submission step and no tax is assessed there either. This looks like it may just be a company-wide Blockbuster screwup. I can handle paying tax on the purchase at the PSN side, but, not tax at point of sale for the card AND tax at purchase on the PSN side.
steebo777

Scene 1 right before they were attacked and scene 2 towards the end of it. Thing is I fast forwarded past the skipped parts with no problem. I'm going to test it gain tonight to see if it was just some random glitch in the matrix.

11-06-08, 02:05 PM
Called the Blockbuster back on the phone and they stated that they shouldn't have charged me tax. They will refund the tax there when I go back in with the receipt. I guess we can all go back to buying PSN cards if good deals are offered, etc. I was pretty livid last night.

A couple of newbie PS3 questions:
Is there a setting to speed up demo downloads or are they always super slow? I am used to downloading a demo in minutes on Xbox Live but every demo I have downloaded from PSN takes 30 minutes to an hour (and then adding insult to injury, several minutes to install after the super long download wait).
Do I have something set wrong? My downloads on Live still only take minutes and it is the same exact connection. Any else have this issue?
Also...I saw how you sign in to the PSN automatically when you turn the PS3 on but I can't seem to get any real "notifications" in the notifications box on the upper right. It just keeps running the same tag stating what notifications are and how to get them. I have my setting turned on to receive them (I believe...the instructions they give are worded a little differently on the actual PS3 interface).
So are they real notifications or is someone pulling my leg? What am I doing wrong?
Thanks!

I downloaded the Mirror's Edge demo last night and it took maybe 10 minutes. It took almost as long to install as it did to download.
Warhawk is a great game. I played the demo a couple of weeks ago and went out to pick it up pretty quickly thereafter. Target has it with the headset for $30. Wish I had known that before spending $30 for just the game at Best Buy.

It definitely doesn't work during online games. But I feel I've noticed the downloads stopping even with offline games (but maybe just the ones that have an online component?).

Or better yet, as others have mentioned, just download them when you're done with your PS3. If you queue them up and choose to shut down when done, it will automatically install any demos or games after they are downloaded. I never download anything anymore when I'm still playing a game or watching a movie. It's so much better to just let the PS3 do its thing and have my demos ready next time I turn it on. There's really no reason to complain about the download speeds since you don't have to babysit the PS3 anymore.

The auto-install comes if you set your PS3 to turn off after completing your downloads.

I don't think you can. I was wanting a way to block and/or delete trophies in case I was playing on a different system and wanted to not get them, but there doesn't seem to be a way to do that.

OK, so I tried to register for the Playstation Underground, but when I enter my email address, it says I'm already registered. I'll buy that, maybe I did it years ago with my PS2 and don't remember. So I try to simply sign in using my email address and password. It tells me it's an invalid username and password combination. So then it says instructions have been sent to my email on how to recover a lost password. Only problem is nothing ever gets sent to my email. I've tried this about 20 times over the last couple days. Same result. Tells me I'm already registered and that it's an invalid user/password combo and an email has been sent with recovery instructions. (and I made sure to undo any spam filters, so if they are actually sending me an email, I should be getting it).
So... does anyone know how to recover a lost Playstation Underground password?

Does the PS3 Warrany also cover the controller?
I was playing Burnout and while picking a car, using the DPad, it got stuck rapidly going to the right! i got pissed and turned off the controller. Didnt matter, than the game, than the whole system, none of it helped. Although it did go rapid at first it began to slow down by itself. So I pressed the right button real hard and it stopped, but I turned everything off just incase. Is it covered?

I'm still not sure of what to think of the Trophy system. As an achievement whore, I love being rewarded for doing things in games, especially with the fact that I will earn things for my residence in "Home." However, I have one issue with the set-up. Why wouldn't Sony just put all of the unlocked trophies together, like Microsoft does with their achievements? I hate checking other peoples' trophy collections and having to scroll through the entire list, missing ones they have unlocked because they're hidden amongst locked ones. I know it's a small problem that they may fix, but it's annoying.
Also; I rented Mirror's Edge the other night. Definitely not as good as I expected it to be. I don't recommend buying it at all. It's somewhat fun, but it's also annoying at times because of how precise your jumps have to be to grab onto things. It's...mediocre.

They talked about it on 1up and IGN podcasts and it sounds like a tech demo more than a game. 5 hours to beat the game. After that it is just rerunning the levels for speed. Every review complained about the combat system and the closed arenas they stick you in during the second half that kill the whole running idea of the game.
Sounds like a big waste of $60 when other games like Fallout 3 and Little Big Planet have been recently released.

I found civrev on there for a little over 30 bucks I think and have been playing it close to everyday in some capacity. I've never played any other civ, but found this one a lot of fun and well worth the money I spent on it. With ebay's 10% coupon right now, or live 25% cashback, you could probably find an even better deal.
As for age of booty, haven't played it, but I am wishing there was a demo. (I've also decided to no longer buy PSN items until either a sale, bundle, or I simply can't wait any longer.)

So I finally ran out of HDD space when I was forced to install over 3 Gigs of data to run the new Naruto game. It's a beautiful game, but it's still a glorified fighting game, and there are still load times... you also must install it to play it. Argh. Guess I'll have to upgrade to a bigger drive... how much of a pain is it to copy data over?

If it's the same price at the boat-load of 360 copies I saw today, then it's actually $29.98. However, copies of R&C: Tools and Uncharted were $41.98.

If you have an external hard drive and a pc to format part of the drive then it is really easy. The longest part is the actual copy time that it takes but that depends on how much memory you have used on your original hard drive. It took me maybe 10 minutes of hands on time for me to swap my original 60gb hard drive to a 320 gb hard drive. It is nice to not have to worry about space anymore. I enjoy having close to 400 complete albums on my PS3 making it a jukebox of sorts. Let us know if you need any help.

It must be FAT32. You'll need a utility to format it, since Windows limits you to 32GB.
I use this one: http://shareme.com/details/fat32-formatter.html
You can put other files on the same partition as the PS3 backup. The PS3 backup will go in a folder.

Target actually started clearancing PS3 games really quickly... most likely because of the holiday game rush and the fact that their PS3 section (at least in all the Targets near me) is only one case. The new Golden Axe and the Sony NBA title were discounted to 41.98 within a couple of weeks after they launched. Granted, both are pretty crappy games, but that was a fast markdown.

My friend is trying to set up his new 80GB PS3 to his Philips 42TA648BX/37 but we hit a major snag. He has it hooked up via HDMI but, despite the fact that his set is a 1080p display, we can't seem to get his PS3 set to anything beyond 480p.
His PS3 is already running on the 2.50 firmware update. The TV sort of seems to recognize that it's receiving a 1080p signal but refuses to output any video and the PS3 simply reverts back to 480p. As you can guess, he doesn't even get to watch BD's on it due to the forced resolution cap.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

The Best thing I can think to do would be to turn the PS3 on by holding down the power button for about five seconds until it beebs, that will reset the video settings. Then just go through the automatic setup options for video.

We did try the auto-detect and tried to reset the video settings. But it keeps defaulting to 480p and wont output anything beyond that to the set. I think maybe it's the HDMI cable (perhaps it's defective) or, worse, the TV. I tried helping him by following the same procedure I did with my PS3. It should have been a snap for him but it wasn't.

Once Home really gets up and running, I think the main thing it's going to be good for is as a staging area for multiplayer games. Some of the other stuff is cool, but just imagine inviting some of your friends over to your "apartment" and strategizing for a bit, them launching into a game of Killzone 2 or whatever straight from Home.

I also want to say (mirroring a topic the xbox users are having right now) I have no desire to spend real money for imaginary clothes and furnishings. I have no idea whether or not they're going to charge for that, but I certainly hope they don't.

Actually, the Playstation Underground is going away, I think next week. Sony is going to make your PSN login universal to everything, including the Playstation forums.
I know 2 of the ways people were getting into Home were being annual Qore subscribers and downloading the Home theme for your PS3. I think the rest of the invites were just random.

after trying it, it does have potential, visuals are pretty decent. outfitting your apartment could be fun its nice to be able to put stuff anywhere and not have to place it in grids.
I was thinking it was going to be like a virtural world like second life where you can walk to places etc. But its select mall, theater etc. not alot to do right now, its kind of neat that if people are playing pool you gotta wait, and you can watch people play the stuff, but it does get old having to wait for an open arcade cabnet, pool table etc.
Controls feel very very sluggish, and the it sucks you cant look around easily.
in the theater all i seen was a trailer for Socom playing over and over. Its neat seeing tons of people sitting in theater like in real life, and grabing a seat etc.
Not man clothes to pick from either, everyone looks the same, stores are empty, not much to decorate your home. Pool wasnt that good, controls are very good.
it did get boring quite fast though

I messed around there awhile today. All the people standing around dancing are plain creepy. Also the fact that every female avatar is surrounded by guys. Don't they know those female avatars are probably dudes as well?
Bowling and pool are flat out terrible. However, I'm starting to really enjoy the arcade machines. Ice Breaker is my favorite (breakout clone with a penguin theme) and I unlocked the Ice Breaker shirt and ski cap by playing it.
Hopefully they update the video content and add something to the mall. It is still empty of items. Also, the theater still only has the Socom Doc so that Watchman trailer must have been a UK Home feature only.

Has anyone else heard of this problem? My PS3 just shut itself off while I was watching Wall-E on it, then did it again a couple minutes later. Then after that I wasn't able to load the XMB, and now when I power it on it just stays on for about 10 seconds then just shuts off again. Does any one have ideas on what could be causing this?

Just FYI, my local Target has Ratchet and Clank PS3 on clearance for $40. Not that great of a deal, but they have a metric ton of them. Stuff doesn't linger in their clearance section long before it gets slashed even more, so it's worth checkin the price if you happen to be in there the next few weeks.
Michael Corvin

It's been $41 for about three weeks now. Most Targets have probably slashed it further by now, assuming they still have any. Mine only had two left a few weeks back.
Also Uncharted was cleared out at the same time as well.

Anyone hear of Gamestop getting in PSN cards this week? I know all about the leaked memo that GS is supposed to get them sometime in 2009, but I had a few employees tell me they're supposed to get them in sometime this week, they just have no clue when. I have some GS credit to burn and this would be perfect for it.

You do it using the PS3 itself. It has been a long time since I put my info in, but there should be something on the store that has you enter your card number. I don't remember where it was, because it was long before they changed it to the gamepad-friendly layout (I thought the earlier store was designed with a mouse in mind).
I think that when they started, you had to buy a certain amount of "funds" and then redeem out of that, but later they changed it so you can just buy something for the exact amount without adding funds. There is a minimum of $5, so if you were to buy something that costs $1.99, you'd spend $5 and have $3.01 available for a future transaction.

What the hell is Novastrike? I've never even heard of it. I'll pick up Commando 3 for sure, I loved that demo even though most reviews were not too kind to the game. Of course, I bought the rest at full price (sigh).
And the free bonus levels in echochrome are downloadable in-game. Unfourtunately, they're not individually selectable; you just play whatever pops up next.

Is there a better way to organize the downloads in the PS3? I'd love to separate the demos from the full version of games that I've downloaded. Currently I have to scroll through a few dozen titles to locate the occasional full game.

Didn't Eden and Last Guy just come out, maybe a month ago?
I also recommend Eden. I paid full price maybe 6 weeks ago, and it's been a great game. Garden 7 is a pain in my ass, but...
I picked up The Last Guy (played the demo three days ago and thought, "Fun game, but $9.99?" Lo and Behold!)
I also picked up Echochrome.
While Call of Duty, etc. obviously look awesome on PS3 and are very fun, it can sometimes be the simple concepts/games (Eden, Echochrome) that really display the next gen formats. E.g. Eden is a fairly simple game, but (to me anyway) seems to rely on you having a nice big t.v. to look at the environment. While the controls may have been physically possible when Mario first came out, I don't think it would have been much fun. I guess this is kind of how Pixar movies seem to be the demo DVDs for blu-ray at places like BB... simple clean lines, big vibrant colors. Fun stuff.

If you're talking about your listing in the store, then I don't know.
Press the "triangle" button while the game is selected to open the menu; select "information." Change the album name to whatever you want (such as "Demo" or "Downloaded" or "PerryD's Favorites" or whatever). While you're looking at the game list, the square button changes how they're grouped: all (one long list) / by album (what you want) / by format.

Picked up Echochrome and a demo of that block puzzle game (no, not Lumines, the one where there's three different areas that are sold separately and in a bundle). Thinking of paying full price ($7 or so for all three locales) for the puzzle game, the demo only gives 3 minutes per locale.
Any good puzzle games?
