Huge Van Damme fan, so definately can't wait to see this. I assume the release date is a typo and that it is actually being released in November of THIS year.

I wonder if it will be dubbed into English when they show it in theaters. If not then people will be in for a little surprise since the trailer would have you be it's an english language film.

Only to a point. The trailer doesn't show this, but a large part of the movie concerns him being embroiled in a bank robbery/hostage situation, and that fairly formulaic section is supposed to drag down the film. To the point where I was excited to see it, but now I'm just going to wait for DVD.

You unlock this door with the key of imagination. Beyond it is another dimension - a dimension of sound, a dimension of sight, a dimension of mind. You're moving into a land of both shadow and substance, of things and ideas. You've just crossed over into the Twilight Zone.

For the love of God put Seagal in to this and you'd have the greatest film ever.

I don't think we'll ever see that. Seagal hates him.

Oh I know. But that's what would make this so hilarious.

Except for the die hard fans that decreed him to be better than Lee, Norris, and etc. I used to work with 2 guys who really thought his films were good.....god, I hate being in Texas sometimes...

Nobody hates Seagal. Espescially action-loving movie dads. And me. I mean, he's so awesomely bad. Because his last 30 films (all within the past 5 years, mind you) are some of the most hilarious things you could ever watch. Seriously.

Watch Pistol Whipped. You'll thank me later.

Finally caught this film last night (right before the fantastic Let the Right One In).

First off, worst subtitles I've ever encountered on a foreign film in a theatrical release. I wanted to cut out my eyes halfway through the movie. It's as if the American distributor made the subtitles all on an older version of the iMovie software.

There were a lot of things I liked about the film (especially Van Damme's performance and the monologue he gives the audience to launch the film into the final act), but I wasn't a huge fan of how the framing of the story juggles time. There's simply too much repeated footage of things we've encountered previously in the story and that's not storytelling, that's just lazy filmmaking attempting your film to seem cooler than it is. The device works only once when we see everything from Van Damme's perspective of how his involvement into the attempted robbery, but it fails every fucking time after that as it's not needed and it just becomes grating on the nerves along with slowing down the film.

Besides the film's weak storytelling device, as I said, there are a lot of things to like about the film. Van Damme has fun with being honest along with just openly ripping his own asshole a new one. It's not the greatest film I've seen all year, but it was fun to watch.

And any movie that involves Van Damme drop kicking a guy and everyone giving him a round of high fives is A-OK by me.

Re: Van Damme is in a movie I actually want to see

Figured this was worth a mention;

JCVD will air Saturday 10/03 at 9PM EST on Spike TV. Not sure of any other airings at this time, but wanted to pass this along for others who may be interested in catching it.

I've been wanting to see this for a while, but never pulled the trigger on the DVD, so I'm looking forward to catching it this weekend.
