Beat It is in GH.

Halloween is next week.

Does Thriller have guitar? Is MJ exclusive to GH or just not in RB?

I dont remember any riffs or solos in Thriller. Its all synth I think. They have not said anything about MJ exclusives.

For anyone thinking about getting the fog machine and lights for RB ($99 retail) I saw a Halloween fog machine and fog "juice" at Target last night for $40. I gotta think they're along the same lines. At the very least you can get the fog juice now because you know the Official Rock Band 2 Fog Juice is going to cost $20.

The thing about the official stage kit is that every song has MIDI hooks in it to control the lights and fog. Therefore, the strobe goes off at certain times for songs and the fog emits at certain times as well. It's not as if it's just a constant fog and strobe going. The lights also have filters so they can flash different colors, depending on the song and whatnot.

The question is, if you fail out, do they turn the house lights on to get everyone to leave? :)

That would be awesome!

Sometimes we have a 5th member do "lights" at our club. The room has various sliders for mood lights, podium, front only, etc. We'll have someone go up and just move the sliders around to the rhythm to give us a more "club" feeling. I really wish they would just release the stage kit, as it'll be awesome for people that have get-togethers often. I doubt it's something I'd ever actually use at home.

I have to compromise. :)

My wife probably wouldn't be too appreciative if I fogged up the entire apartment, and she's like the one person in the world who doesn't like Rock Band, so I can't even get her to join in. Also, one of our cats has asthma, so I don't know how she'd react to fog.

Hey, metalheads can have cats!

I don't know if the fog juice they'll use is the same as what has been used in clubs, but damn I hate the smell of that stuff. Nothing like be choked to death while you can't see what you're playing!

Someone on the RB.com forums has one. He posted up a Q&A on it, but no vids or pics.

http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?t=93503

It does have a slight odor, it smells kind of like a hot iron or a steamer. The odor does not seem to linger though, we used it in an enclosed room and I went into that room a few hours after we played and I didn't notice a smell.

The only stage accessories I would definitely buy for Rock Band 2 would be pods that open up that the performers could come out of before the song starts, and maybe a huge stonehenge monument, say 18" x 18".

I have to say I am stunned, for as much as you obviously know about metal, Spinal Tap is almost like Metal 101 to me. I didn't see it for the first time until I was 19, but damn it's just so dead on with a lot of things about being in a band and performing at different venues.

I first saw it when I was 11 back in '88 and didn't get it, but when I saw it again in college that's when it stayed with me. Metal 101 is a great way to put it.

I'll go halves on a Stage Kit with you for the club and we can just pilfer from the coffers that don't exist for the money back. After the other competition that won't be as good as our original one, we should show them how it's done and set another up. I'm not sure the grading should be the same that it was, however, but I did like the prize structure.

In our first Rock Band competition, we gave prizes for Best Technical Band, Best Artistic Band, and then one for each instrument's best player (artistic + technical) but the rubric for scoring was pretty harsh and nobody got over a 70/100. I'll have to pull up the stuff from that and take a look at modifying it for the future. Does anyone have any ideas on what should be in Rock Band contests, whether they're about setup or scoring or prizes or anything they could share? I'm trying to give everyone incentives to join, but still might be looking at it from too much of a hardcore gamer perspective.

"Butt rock" seems like a Flintstones bathroom insult. You ever go into a stall in the bathroom and find a piece of cake on a plate, floating inside the toilet bowl? It was a trap.

Don't feel bad about Spinal Tap. It wasn't until I saw Clerks this past weekend that I realized where the band name Fark You Yankee Blue Jeans came from.

And as far as I know, nobody recognizes my band's name, Friday Let Me Down.

It's a Hall and Oates song.

David St. Hubbins: I do not, for one, think that the problem was that the band was down. I think that the problem *may* have been, that there was a Stonehenge monument on the stage that was in danger of being *crushed* by a *dwarf*. Alright? That tended to understate the hugeness of the object.

Ian Faith: I really think you're just making much too big a thing out of it.

Derek Smalls: Making a big thing out of it would have been a good idea.

this happened to me over the weekend too. I've been experimenting with repairs, and it has helped, but I'm having trouble getting at both sides of the crack. If I could remove the rubber from the pad, then I could do a full repair, but I can't figure out how to take that off.

Yeah, this is the second pad that I've cracked. I cracked the blue pad on a previous set. If anyone looks at my pads, they see that I hit the same spot repeatedly, as should any drummer (you can see the wear on it by a half dollar sized circle on my neoprene silencer). It still registers a hit, but I drop notes here and there. Wish they would accept an RMA'd drum kit without any reciept.

RB1. Not bad considering how much abuse I give it. I have also been playing with the Ludwig 5Bs that came with the game as well as the Pro-Mark 747s which are a little heavier.

So that's the big release opposite of GH:WT? Wow. And isn't Dammit in GH:WT?

They usually don't release major DLC opposite other game releases anyway. Probably smarter to wait for weeks when they know much of their base won't be buying something else.

And, again, they probably realize that no single DLC week would stop someone from buying GHWT when minds have long been made up one way or the other.

Would have prefered a 3 pack of the Furs over the Banshees.

And the Silversun Pickups are nowhere near a strong enough band to have more tracks. If that contract related, Lazy Eye wasn't worth it.

Like the diversity and good to have one of Blink's best...though I may just stick with the GH WT version.

My red pad cracked a few months ago, although it still worked -- just felt a bit dead. This past weekend I went ahead and tried the sheet metal fix, where you cut out a piece of sheet metal the same size as the pad, and install it under the top rubber layer. (Sorry, can't post URLs yet since I'm not at 15 posts -- although I've been a lurker here for years!)

It seems to work great so far although the red pad definitely feels different now. A lot less "give" to it. However, I bought some "Ugly Tips" at my local drum store, and now I get great bounce and it's much quieter.

Still deciding if I should go ahead with fixing the rest of the pads the same way, or just break down and buy the new RB2 drums...

I recently got RB2 for my PS3 and i was wondering if you could like in RB1 when playing quickplay to record all the scores? Like when you played a song on quickplay and had a score you could put your name on a little leaderboard type thing. Me and my girlfriend we loved that in the first one because we could try to beat eachother's high scores and such.
And trying quickplay last night it didn't ask me to record my name when i finished a song. So basically there's only ONE high score per song? That's a little lame no?

I couldn't disagree more. I would love to hav the entire Carnavas album on RB actually, so I'll take all the more I can get. They are the new century version of what the Smashing Pumpkins were in the 90's. That album does the same for me that Siamese Dream did.

As for the Siouxsie stuff.....my wife is doing backflips. Has always been her favorite, and we've actually joked quite a bit about what she'd do if they were ever in the game. Apparently, it was backflips.

So, for those of you keeping your own updated copies of pinata's (I think?) DLC spreadsheet, are you going to include the free 20 tracks?

Shagrath

I don't use pinata's spreadsheet, but I do have my own for DLC spending, as well as score tracking.

The score-tracking stuff contains every song available (whether I purchased it or not) with quite a bit of statistical information. I update it every week when the DLC hits, and filter what I buy by an owned flag.

I'm a casual gamer (hence the PS3 for Blu-ray), so getting most of my video game news and updates here is plenty for me. I really only play the music games (RB2 and GH) and occasionally another game here or there like Uncharted. Between playing those games and keeping up with a couple TV series, my entertainment schedule is full :)

Umm, i'm pretty sure RB1 had that quickplay leaderboard type thing...

There is no local leaderboard where you enter your name or anything, RB1 or RB2. There are just the online leaderboards that list the top score you have for each song. GH 1 and 2 had what you are talking about, where you enter your name and it shows the top 5 scores for that song. GH3 might have that too. I don't remember.

OK, so I finally picked up a Les Paul since the price has dropped to $50 for the standalone guitar. About a month ago, before the RMA period was up, I did an RMA and got a coffin for my RB Strat. I'm going to send it back and see if they will still give me a new one, since I ordered the RMA pre-rule change. Can't hurt. Les Paul looks and feels freaking amazing .

After seeing pictures of the incredible detachable neck hookups on the new GH:WT guitar, I went to Best Buy to try it out.

PROS:
-Tapslidepad thing is pretty awesome. You can touch it to strum! I like it a lot more than the Strat because of that. They also seem to have zones the same size as the original frets. Small solo buttons, while correctly sized for their placement on the neck, always messed with me 'cause I have monster hands.
-Detachable neck connection seems like it'd be way better than their lame 8-pin connector bullshit on the Les Paul.
-Fret buttons are like the LP which are my favorite type.

CONS:
-Back button is some weird palm-mute giant elongated button with 2 start buttons above and below it. Since the strum bar is longer, I can either hold it normally at the back end and tilt for OD, or hold it at the front end and use my palm to hit that button. Based on how I have my hand on the guitar, it's difficult for me to hit back now. The LP had a perfect placement for their back button, but this guitar's activation button looked like it was in a good spot. After using, it's not.
-Longer strum bar and whammy bar. Not that big of a deal but they get in the way.

INDIFFERENTS:
The guide button and D-Pad are combined into some awkward button-on-stick thing.

What it comes down to with this guitar is the back button vs. the touchstrip. I'm not sure if the latter works in Rock Band, as I'd grab GH:WT on a rental and bang out the 1000/1000 in a week. Seeing as there's no standalone guitar yet, I'm not going to pick this up.

GH:WT drums suck. Hard. I understand people's gripes about switching red and yellow (sorry Shag, reverse colors you damn lefty) on certain songs but it helps playability so much. Everlong in RB makes the yellow pad a snare for most of the song, so you don't have to roll on yellow and then move left for the snare hit. GH:WT does not do this. You have to roll on the yellow cymbal and then reach left for your snare hits, and it is so awkward. If I can hook up my electronic kit MIDI to GH:WT's drums and use that in RB, I'd be interested.

Final instrument decision: Les Paul, RB drums, RB mic

Is the strum bar any different from the Les Paul?

It's longer. That's all I really noticed about it. Felt the same while strumming to me

EDIT: the strum bar reminds me of what I think the RB2 strummer is like. It clicks at the top and bottom when you strum in said direction, but has a lot of give in the middle. I didn't remember it at first so it's not that big of a deal.

Emerald Frosion finally passed on doing the BotB, because you can't see your whole band history (only the last few played). We were initially going to place in every battle, but there's nowhere to see that or prove that we did, so we just stopped doing them.

I think it's an awesome idea, but I want to see my stats for every battle ever, and see that I've played 100/200/500 battles and shit like that.

So with the update to GHWT they added a Music Store (PS3 already had it, 360 didn't). The store is no where near as good as the Rock Band store (which is probably no surprise). However, one thing you can do is queue up stuff like you can on the regular Xbox Marketplace. What the hell is Harmonix excuse for not letting us do this? I know previously they said some crap about Microsoft not allowing it, but clearly that can't be the case.

I want to object to "Simple" 3-Song Mystery Setlists (on drums mind you) that offer you the opportunity for five times the fans or nothing at all and then cram "Call Me" and two The Who songs down your throat. What was fixed/changes
- Drum fills now play correctly online
- Fill lanes occasionally not appearing during fills has been addressed
- Hot Topic event in Tour now has no fan loss and more lax requirements
- Bugged/unhittable notes in drum charts now play correctly
Exceptions: In Next to You and Panic Attack the "bugged" notes are intentional.

Apparently MTV Networks, owners of Harmonix, and Apple Corps Ltd, administrators of The Beatles releases of the 1960s, are holding a press conference tomorrow to make some announcement about an "exclusive agreement to develop a global music project."

The release lists a number of media contacts, including one of the main PR folks for Rock Band 2. This seems to back up what the Financial Times reported back in June. Though at the time it sounded like both Activision and Harmonix were wooing Apple Corps. Did Guitar Hero get the shaft or is another announcement, this one with Activision, hitting later this week? We'll update once we can needle out more official word.

File under "Interesting": over at the official RB forums, a thread about this topic was locked and then unlocked a short while later. In the past, false rumor threads were locked, while those which corresponded to impending announcements were left open. Not exactly 100% proof, but it's encouraging. Anybody have trouble with their RB2 drums just dropping connection in the middle of a song? Everything looked normal on the kit -- the PS button and controller signal were lit... but nothing registered. I had to flip the power switch beneath the kit in order to reconnect.

I'm hoping this is a battery issue... and not a drum issue. Though I expect the latter. I had such good luck with my drums for RB1. I guess I was due...

UPDATE: yes, apparently this is what happens when the batteries are low. New batteries fixed it. If this is how fast these kits drain batteries, I want my corded kit back. Or a bigger battery charger.

The Beatles are the only band other than Zeppelin that I think deserve their very own game...but if HMX is doing it, the ability to rip the songs to the HD for play in RB would make the argument a moot point, for the most part.

Not a huge fan of the Beatles, but my guitarist is, and I'm sure he'll buy some of the songs, if not all of them. Hopefully my bands come next!

I'll buy them all but my bet is the vast majority will be boring in solo play. Band play is where it will be at for the Beatles.

Are there any Beatles songs in any of the karaoke games? If there was a standalone game, I'll bet they'd sell tons of them to people just for the singing part of it.

I absolutely can't stand the Beatles...I just hope this doesn't turn into a situation where every other week we have a Beatles week. Ugh.

On another note...I bought the stage kit today. Woohoo!

The Beatles will definitely be a disc. I would assume it will be a new version of the game since clearly dual vocals will be crucial to do many of the songs justice, not to mention they will probably go all out with history, famous venues, etc.

Fucking awesome, can't wait!

I just mentioned to the wife last night how excited I am to have Band on the Run in GH:WT because of the possibility it could open the door for them.

But I would prefer them under Harmonix's banner.

I will be sitting right here at 9am local furiously hitting F5 all over the web.

It's okay! I'm easy to forget! Just leave me behind! I'm only the fucking lead singer!

Since I don't sing often I always forget about vocals. The Beatles would be a blast on vocals, in solo or band play.

And the gap continues to widen...

This is really a big deal for both these franchises and Activision just got the wind taken out of their sails.

I wonder what was the deciding factor for Apple Corp. in choosing what platform to go with?

I just seems to me RB is more polished and mature at this point. GH is geared more for teens and tweens.

But they had better not sacrifice the single platform vision for this. I will get it either way and enjoy the stand-alone journey, but I want all my library accessible together. THE BEATLES INSPIRE NEW MUSIC VIDEO GAME; APPLE CORPS LTD., MTV AND HARMONIX COME TOGETHER FOR UNPRECEDENTED DEAL

Exclusive Agreement Set to Bring The Beatles Music to Fans for the First Time in Interactive Form Here, There and Everywhere in 2009

New York, NY – October 30, 2008 – The Beatles’ extraordinary music and phenomenal legacy is set to rock across the universe in the form of a video game through an exclusive partnership between Apple Corps Ltd., Harmonix and MTV Games, a part of Viacom’s MTV Networks (NYSE: VIA, VIA.B).

This partnership marks the first time that Apple Corps, along with EMI Music, Harrisongs Ltd, and Sony/ATV Music Publishing, has agreed to present The Beatles music in an interactive video game format. Published by MTV Games and developed by Harmonix, the world’s premier music video game company and creators of the best-selling Rock BandŽ, the game will be an unprecedented, experiential progression through and celebration of the music and artistry of The Beatles. The game was creatively conceived with input from Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, along with Yoko Ono Lennon and Olivia Harrison, and enjoys their full blessing. In addition, Giles Martin, co-producer of The Beatles innovative LOVE project, will provide his expertise and serve as Music Producer for this groundbreaking Beatles project.

“The project is a fun idea which broadens the appeal of The Beatles and their music. I like people having the opportunity to get to know the music from the inside out,” Sir Paul McCartney said.

“It gives me great pleasure to be part of The Beatles / Apple and Harmonix / Rock Band partnership,” said Ringo Starr. “The Beatles continue to evolve with the passing of time and how wonderful that The Beatles’ legacy will find its natural progression into the 21st century through the computerized world we live in. Let the games commence.”

“It’s cool. I love it and hope it will keep inspiring and encouraging the young generation for many decades,” said Yoko Ono Lennon.

“People are having so much fun playing Rock Band. Combined with The Beatles tracks, it is a great way to either listen or participate,” said Olivia Harrison. “If you like the music, it doesn’t take much persuasion to get you to play.”

“Introducing the genius of The Beatles to a whole new generation of music lovers through original and inspired ways is extremely exciting to us at Apple Corps,” stated Jeff Jones, CEO, Apple Corps. “We are truly pleased to be working with the innovative forces at MTV and Harmonix as they embody our mutual passions for music and creativity.”

“Many of us have been part of a generation that has long enjoyed an enduring love affair with The Beatles and now we’re looking to extend that love affair for future generations to enjoy,” said Van Toffler.” “Our inspiration for this project comes from a keen sense of history and a place of utmost reverence and respect for the band, their music and their heritage.”

“The impact of The Beatles is forever ingrained in the hearts, minds and souls of millions the world over,” said Judy McGrath, Chairman and CEO of MTV Networks. “The Beatles are the reason many of us are WHERE we are, and some of us are WHO we are.”

“We are honored to be part of this new way for people to discover the timeless music and art of The Beatles - the most creatively and commercially successful, critically acclaimed, and influential band in the history of popular music,” stated Paul DeGooyer, MTV’s Senior Vice President of Electronic Games & Music.

“By presenting their music and artistry through the creative filter of a groundbreaking video game, we are giving legions of fans and music lovers all over the world a profound, new way to experience The Beatles,” said Alex Rigopulos, CEO and Co-Founder, Harmonix. “This game will be a celebration of the Beatles undeniable legacy.”

7:23 -- The music will be based on the UK releases. Martin says: "We are trying to keep to, as much as possible, is for people to play the songs as though they're playing the originals... More of a way for them to interact with what they know very well as opposed to us remixing as we did in Love."

7:24 --Rigopulos: "A visual exploration of the Beatles' history is a big part of this project."

7:26 -- Does this mean Rock Band won't get Beatles music at all? They aren't saying.

7:28 -- Press release just went out, check out these quotes:

"The project is a fun idea which broadens the appeal of The Beatles and their music. I like people having the opportunity to get to know the music from the inside out," Sir Paul McCartney said.

"It gives me great pleasure to be part of The Beatles / Apple and Harmonix / Rock Band partnership," said Ringo Starr. 7:29 -- Those four people will be involved "every step of the way creatively and musically." Apparently they've all seen the game running already. I'm jealous! Of Paul McCartney!

7:30 -- This shit be exclusive, says an MTV exec (I am paraphrasing.) No Beatles in Guitar Hero, guys.

7:31 -- Alex Rigopulos says they're not saying what platforms the game will be available on.

7:32 -- They'll come back to the question of digital distribution of Beatles tunes, on iTunes or wherever, at the end of the call.

I actually asked L&O about that a week or two ago. He said probably not, unless there were several more music game threads going on the first page, then he'd ask about getting one.

I'd love to have all the music games in a forum of their own.

Maybe they could just make it disc-only and not exportable to RB2/3 for a few months or something, that way they'd sell a shit ton before Christmas, but it could be exported later down the road?

Of course I'd prefer it be available for the RB platform immediately...

pinata242
10-30-08, 09:53 AM
I think the way AC/DC is going is what we should reasonably expect. A retail-only disc (though with a full artist experience, not just the current RB2 engine) that can optionally be exported to the main platform to co-mingle with all the other songs in your library.

You can get just The Beatles game or add it to your collection, but you won't be able to get them through DLC.

This might be the case and how it differs from Rock Band. I don't know how they can add additional mics, unless they're not tied to a controller slot (wireless and synced to the guitar, perhaps)? Then they could give the option to export to Rock Band, but you lose that stuff.

pinata242
10-30-08, 10:04 AM
Unless RB3 also has the functionality. Wouldn't make much sense to develop the solution and not have it for all songs going forward.

Might finally be able to get Rock Band: Boy Bands.

.

Financially...which GH is winning.

I love RB and it is not even close. But the numbers say GH is superior and it doesn't matter what audience it is geared for...similar to Madden and other subpar franchises that still make a ton. The people that post on this board, me included, are a select minority that understand the music games and innovation and superior business products.

Yes, RB needed something big only because GHWT has bigger artists on their disc than RB and GHWT still is leading in market share though RB is closing the gap.

I am not a fanboy. I truly don't care as long as we are getting awesome music and awesome game(s)...which we are. And I highly prefer RB.

But I am not going to get into an argument when one side has Michael Jackson, The Eagles, etc... on their team. From a "sales" and "name" perspective, GH has more heavyweights. This cannot be disputed.

Willie Nelson
Coldplay
Ted Nugent
Tool
Jimi Hendrix

Any of those names resonate with the general populace?

Michael Corvin
10-30-08, 10:23 AM
Umm... what are you guys smokin'? Hendrix? The Doors? The Eagles? Van Halen? Even Michael Jackson is a bigger draw then a vast majoirty of the artists on RB2.

Shagrath
10-30-08, 10:27 AM
I'll just say different strokes for different folks. I don't think any of those could hold their own as a band-only game. I don't see that as the future, but I do think that there are just as many "big" artists in Rock Band, if not more.

I would really like to have an all-out war of RB/GH, but there would probably be repercussions.

EDIT: Maybe Ozzy/Sabbath could.

Michael Corvin
10-30-08, 10:35 AM
No need to have a war, just a simple question. Name 5 or more artists that you personally think are bigger names, that were included on the RB2 disc, than the names in the aforementioned list above.

Answer, not as a fan of said group(s) but in a Joe Plumber comparing a list of artists on the back of the box kinda way. i.e. personally I've looked forward to Dream Theater more than any other artist, but I'm not delusional enough to say they are bigger than, say, Van Halen.

The Beatles are certainly epic. New ground is being broken here with this industry and will see how this turns out.

If only you knew the things that I've heard as far as what people really think of World Tour. I will give you that some of the artists on World Tour are "big", but a lot of them are in RB or coming. There's also the fact that the game itself (presentation-wise) is complete ass compared to RB.

Harmonix tries to take a game and make music out of it.
Neversoft tries to take music and make a game out of it.

There's a huge difference, and one of them makes for the much better experience.

We all agree with that.

Can you look at the situation from a general consumer viewpoint that doesn't have HMX-colored glasses on or "inside sources"?

We already know where you stand on both witch platform you like and what music you like. We already know the differences in the games. We know about DLC available, announced, and rumored.

I completely understand that we are not the general population. Guitar Hero definitely is the "bigger" name, because it's been around longer (thanks to HMX :) ). I feel that over-saturation of the market could lead to GH's downfall in the long run though.

Also, all of my friends and family see Rock Band as the better product and look down on Guitar Hero in much the same way I do. I guess we're cut from the same groove.

EDIT: And if they think otherwise, I'll disown them! :)

Ok, so what you're saying is that it is impossible for you to look at it objectively.

And that's what RB needs to take market share away as quickly and effectively as possible from GH.

Ok, so what you're saying is that it is impossible for you to look at it objectively.
I said somewhere a while back that I'd give WT a chance. From the screenshots and everything, it looked like the same amateur product, so I held little hope for it. However, I said I would reserve final judgment until playing it.

Well, I played it. And it felt like just as amateurish as it looked. Neversoft have absolutely no feel for presentation, and while they did do several good things (that I wouldn't mind HMX pilfering from), they did three times as many bad things.

I do tend to go off of my own opinions and observations on things, and yet I'm not blind to the fact that GH will be the bigger selling franchise for some time yet. However, that's not to say that Harmonix isn't winning out in the end with their never-ending flow of DLC. Just because they don't have a new product on the shelves every 4 months doesn't mean that they don't have enough new content to make a completely new tracklist.

It would definitely be interesting to see who's pulling in more money. It's probably still ActiBlizz, but I'd put money on HMX shortening that lead as time goes on.

bunkaroo
10-30-08, 11:01 AM
It's hard to argue with that list above. RB2 certainly has its huge artists like Nirvana (minus their best songs :)), Rush, some Metallica, RHCP, but for a guitar game stuff like Crazy Train, Van Halen and Hendrix are essential IMO.

And I think that's a fundamental difference. Even with multiple instruments, GH:WT is still a guitar-dominated game IMO, whereas Rock Band is about all the instruments. I think they both have their uses.

I, for one, don't care who makes more money. All I care is that the game(s) I like continue to keep me satisfied and they need to stay profitable for that to even be a possibility.

They're both profitable. How much, I don't care.

They'll live or die on their own merits and it helps to have something to compare it to. Exclusivity hurts the war - it deadens the drive for self-improvement and competition through price.

If RB gets The Beatles, will that be enough to kill <s>HD-DVD</s> GH by itself?

It's the same thing. Are we better off now that HD-DVD is dead, for example? Is the world better that EA has exclusive NFL rights through Madden?

You want RB to exist alone - why? What vested interest do you have in it? As a consumer you want the best product for the best value. Without competition, there's little to no need for the publishers to deliver that value.

I want everyone to play/own the better product. I have no vested interest, other than my good will. I'd like to think that if RB was the only "real" music game out there, we'd still be getting just as much good stuff. That's alternate universe talk though.

We know you don't like GH, which is fine. Ignore the game itself and just look at the artists. That's all we are getting at, and you still haven't answered the question. Joe the Plumber walks into Wal-Mart and wants to buy one game and looks at the back of both boxes. Which game looks more appealing based on the artists in said games. That's what ultimately sells the games, the artists, not the developer or promise of DLC.

As for DLC sales vs stand alone GH sales, even if HMX's DLC eclipses GH monetarily they still lose. You can't leave out all the media saturation that a 10 million selling copy game gets. i.e. more ad dollars & awareness in turn gives them more sales.

I will give you that GH has "bigger" artists on the disc. However, does that mean that they are good for the game? That depends on who you're talking to.

I don't give a fuck about "Joe the Plumber" (I hate that term by the way). As I said, I think that GH is going to dig itself a hole releasing 4-6 titles a year.

WOW...picked up the wireless RB2 drums last night because my GH:WT drums were terrible and I sold my RB1 drums. I love them. What a difference. I said that I'd play through the GH:WT disc and sell it, but at this point, I really don't even want to pop it back into my XBox.

It's amazing not having an dropped hits (as both of my previous drumsets had, although the RB1 drums were my fault).

I rented GH:WT for achievements but I could barely struggle through the guitar career before returning it. The game is horrendous and anyone that likes it should be ashamed of themselves. It's like making out with a hot girl versus eating her feces.

I'll toss up a stage kit review and a mystery box review later. Hopefully by then you'll realize the consuming of waste material isn't worth arguing about!

I think the way AC/DC is going is what we should reasonably expect. A retail-only disc (though with a full artist experience, not just the current RB2 engine) that can optionally be exported to the main platform to co-mingle with all the other songs in your library.

You can get just The Beatles game or add it to your collection, but you won't be able to get them through DLC.Or the reverse ... export RB2 (to add in with all the RB1 and DLC songs) to play in the Beatles game, since that'll presumably be an updated version of the engine.

As for 4-6 titles a year, care to name them? Metallica & DJ Hero. HMX has AC/DC and the Beatles on deck. 2 on 2.

I just don't get all this GH:WT hate.

I picked up GH:WT at the Best Buy midnight launch and have been having a blast playing since. RB2 is my favorite video game ever and I've never had more fun playing a game since it came out. It will probably remain my favorite game until RB3 comes out, but I haven't put it in my Xbox since GH:WT came out.

You RB fanboys can enjoy playing the same old tracks you've been playing the last few months along with the sub-par DLC you got this week and next. I'm gonna go have more fun playing great songs like Trapped Under Ice, Death Magnetic album, Band on the Run, Hotel California, Pull me Under, Beat It, Mr. Crowley, Crazy Train, No Rain, Are You Gonna go my Way, Anything, Stranglehold, Nugent/Wylde Guitar Battles, The Joker, Assassin, Hot for Teacher, Satch Boogie, Purple Haze, Rebel Yell, Hollywood Nights, Hot Blooded, Jessie's Girl, Do it Again & many many more.

Sure, they aren't quite as polished as they would be if they were in RB, but that doesn't mean they aren't worth playing. I play these games bacuase I am a music fan. I like singing and playing along to old favorites and just having fun with friends and family. Some of you are taking these games WAY too seriously.

On Tour: Decades? I don't care if it's a handheld system, it's still a brand-new game and not a port. I'm sure there are others coming. Didn't ActiBlizz say they were going to do 4 titles a year, and up it to 6 a little bit down the road? That's over-saturation if you ask me.

Personally, I would've been happy with Rock Band just being Rock Band 1 forever, but the additions in RB2 are awesome. If GH can be forward-thinking and make all of their DLC from this point on compatible, it will help them out in the long run. We'll see though.

My two most wanted Full Album downloads for Rockband are: Throwing Copper - Live and Operation Mindcrime - Queensryche. It's really sad that at this point in the GH/RB lifespan we have no songs from either group.

New tracks weekly extends the game into forever for me. With the exception of Grateful Dead and Locksley, I have picked up something every single week and had new songs to play.

The engine and presentation for GH:WT just looks like complete and utter fucking ass to me. Neversoft knows next to nothing about UIs and it certainly shows. I'd be all for playing a lot of those songs in Rock Band, so it's not like I'm completely against the songs. It's the game I hate, and will continue to spit vitriol at as long as I draw breath.

I am a huge music fan as well, but if it's not done with a nice presentation, then it becomes a chore. Even people over in the GH thread are basically saying "This game is meh. It's not as good as Rock Band." That's the general feeling I've had looking at several different forums as well. If GH wants to be a serious contender (at least as far as quality), then they need to step up their game.

Operation Mindcrime - Queensryche
Queensryche was on the list of most-wanted artists pulled from a collection of the developer's "Rocker" pages over on RB.com. I'd say they're coming at some point.

I'm also clamoring over playing some. Tate's got an awesome voice, and DeGarmo's guitar is top notch as well.

The DLC hasn't been fantastic every week, but when you have packs from bands like Boston, The Who, Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Motley Crue, The Offspring, and Nine Inch Nails, that's hardly sub-par.

So, is anyone picking up the AC/DC disc this weekend?

no need to have a war, just a simple question. name 5 or more artists that you personally think are bigger names, that were included on the rb2 disc, than the names in the aforementioned list above.

answer, not as a fan of said group(s) but in a joe plumber comparing a list of artists on the back of the box kinda way. I.e. Personally i've looked forward to dream theater more than any other artist, but i'm not delusional enough to say they are bigger than, say, van halen.

I never said all the DLC was sub-par. Hell, I probably own more RB DLC than anyone else in these forums. I was referring to the junk RB put out this week and the 20 free/PotUSA DLC for next week. If that's what they wanted to release at the same time GH:WT debuts, RB2 is not gonna take any time away from me enjoying the huge pile of great new stuff that's in GH:WT.

That's awesome pseudo-news(?). At any rate they just announced their new album (slated for Spring) yesterday so I can see them tying something together. Preferably Mindcrime, but if not I think they are a group that easily deserves a 6-12 pack. Too many great songs to whittle it down to a single tune or even a three pack.

I think I'll probably pick it up for the achievements, export it, and then get rid of it real quick.

I would love for this thread to be a RB love-in. In fact, I would keep my nose out of the GH thread entirely if that were to happen. :) That being said, there are people on either side of the fence (and some that sit in the middle), and all of us are pretty adamant about our stance on things, even if that stance is to have no stance.
