Crusoe -- 2 hour series premiere -- "Rum and Gunpowder" -- 10/17/08
Premise:
Daniel Defoe's classic novel gets a makeover in this saga of a young man shipwrecked on a desert island, where his unlikely friendship with a native named Friday helps him hold onto sanity. While the current lives of these two men is filled with hungry cannibals, wild animals and terrifying lightning storms, flashbacks reveal Crusoe's life with his wife Susannah before he became a castaway.

I didn't just realize it. I realized it would be the classic version when I first saw the promos a few weeks ago.
I just initially figured they were doing a cross between the classic and Lost. I never read a synopsis for it.

It's only 13 episodes. I recall that NBC green lighted this show during the writer's strike and most of it's crew and writers are all from Europe.
I'm not sure if the intent was to make this a 1 and done show. I guess we'll have to wait and see. However, I can't see this getting big numbers on Friday nights especially with Life barely getting 5M viewers.

I was surprised to see Sam Neil and Sean Bean in this show.
I really quite enjoyed it.
I like Crusoe's ingenuity and how it was evident in both the "now" and "then" segments. Friday's pretty cool too.
I know we'll be seeing Judy again.
I'll watch it next week (maybe).

I thought it had the same fun and whimsical tone to it that the "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies have. I wondered how he bult some of those things though. Some of them seemed way too elaborate. And like someone else pointed out, why didn't he build a boat if he's so good at construction?

Maybe he's smart enough to know his limitations. Yeah, he could probably build himself a nifty boat, but if he doesn't have a compass, or knows nothing about sailing (guessing here), then he might feel that it's better to stay alive in his tricked-out treehouse than take the chance of sailing into an endless ocean.

We watched it last night on NBC.com, and liked it a lot. Surprised by the number of recognizable faces in the show (Sam Neil, Sean Bean, the Spanish captain...) Looking forward to the rest of the series.

You can tell good from bad. The good people have white teeth and the bad people have yellow teeth.
I liked it. Just light enough not to take seriously, but some decent action and storytelling.
