Socom: Confrontation

Anyone pick this up? I tried to get online last night but the servers were a mess. Anyone have any luck actually playing?

It blows me away that when a game (in this case an ONLINE ONLY game) has the servers completely FUBAR at launch. I mean, it's not like you can just do single player until it gets sorted out. If it wasn't for the headset, I'd probably demand my money back.

The servers are junk right now. The beta was working fine up until last week when the released patch 1.5. Then all hell broke loose. I've only been able to get into one game since I picked up my copy. If they run it like they did the beta, expect to see a new software version to download soon.

Glad I didn't boot my copy up yesterday. I am pretty satisifed with the Bluetooth headset though and I heard that it retails for 50 by itself. I got the game for free anyway with a B2G1F anyway so I don't feel too bad.

What's the headset like? Is it a lot better than the Warhawk one?

From the one game I was able to play, the headset works well. It came with a little base for charging which I have plugged into my Wii. I had no problem syncing it to my phone too.

You might be best served to boot it up now... because when you go to play there is a 473MB file it downloads AFTER you do the profile install that comes on the disk. In all, it took about 1 1/2 hours to actually get to the game --- then the servers crashed.

The headset is fine. Not great or super comfortable, but it works just fine. I noticed it picks up every bit of ambient noise in the house. I was setting it up and my daughter was watching TV downstairs singing to herself -- I could hear her voice echoing in the headset all the way upstairs.

So I finally got to play this game a bit today... what's up with keeping your statistics? I played three games and had to leave... but it shows all 0's for my stats... why come?

< Tarantino > Hey, let me just open this thread about a game I'll never play and ever so slyly I'll poo-poo on it. I'm cool like that. Then, I'll add my signature "= J" so that everyone will know I'm kidding and there'll be no hard feelings. I'm cool like that. < /Tarantino >

So fucking obnoxious.

He didn't poo poo on the game, he and another poo poo'd on the network that the PS3 uses... so I guess it could be a slight console bash...

Let me be clear, the console is great. The network just sucks. It's issues like these that have kept me from getting any of the PS3 multi-player games. Come on Sony, get your shit together.

I have a PS3 as well, and my roommate has his copy on the way. Yes, I will play it.

However, I stay far, far away from that PSNetwork for the reasons already stated.

How weird is it that the game is like 2-3 days old already and there STILL isn't a single review of this major title online. I've seen review embargoes before, but never one that extended past the release date.

Well, it is multiplayer only. How many reviewers had access to the final build pre-release, and were they able to coordinate some games, to the point where reviewers could get an adequate feel for the game?

NHL09 on the PSN works pretty well. I've had a couple of hangups and whatnot but nothing to get all worked up about. It's free. And it'll keep getting better. Doesn't it have to?

Not that Buzz! is the most taxing game, but it runs quite well during online play.

The servers are working much better now. The trick is that you have to join a game as soon as you get to the selection screen. The refresh isn't working so if you wait too long it will time out. I was able to play all last night without one issue.

noonan (or anyone else), can you explain why the stats aren't getting saved? Do you know if that was a server issue too?

1Up.com gave this game a C+ but said once the server issues are fixed it'll rival the best of the Socom games. This is my first Socom game and my only comparator is R6V -- which I love.

I think stats only get saved when you play in a Ranked game. At least that's how it was during the beta. I only played a few games last night and didn't bother looking for stats after.

I had no idea this game was out. I was just at BB a couple days ago and they were still taking preorders. Anyway, I enjoyed the Socoms for PS2 and may pick this up.

It's a shame about what I'm hearing about the online network for this game. I have Call of Duty 4 for PS3 and have had maybe two dropped connections out of the hundred hours or so I've played the game online. Not bad.

The in-game videos on Youtube look pretty incredible.

The areas seem huge.

Tried playing this a bit at a buddy's yesterday... The servers really are a mess this time around. Sony needs to get on the ball with it.
