Amazon.com has a pretty good deal on right now for anyone wanting to jump into the world of Blu-ray.

- Samsung BD-P1500 1080p Blu-ray player (http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-BD-P1500-1080p-Blu-ray-Player/dp/B0014H16V0/) for $223 (reg. price $299.99 at BestBuy.com)
- The Ultimate Matrix Blu-ray Collection (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000OPPBEQ/) for free (reg. price $74.99 at BestBuy.com)

Just add'em both to your cart and the deal will be applied at checkout.

that is a great deal. i was thinking of taking advantage of this package at circuit city where it was $249.99 before tax, but was leaning away from it... this might just make me lean in the other direction.

how is this player compared to others on the market?

Not a bad deal at all. Even I am ALMOST tempted to get this.

Someone in another thread mentioned that Samsung players are crap.

Early Samsung Blu-ray players were, but reviews for the 1500 have been fairly solid. It's no Sony S350 or PS3, but it does the job from what I can tell.

Not a huge difference, but it's currently showing up for $226.86 for me (typical Amazon price changes I suppose).

It's been going up and down in the $220s for two days. Also, there are times it has been unavailable. If you want it, get it while you can.

F@#%ing Circuit City. I literally placed the order for this from CC less than an hour before reading this, and when I tried to call CC to cancel the order, they told me I couldn't cancel it until the item is about to ship. Now I have to call CC back on Wednesday just to cancel the order through them (or wait until I receive shipment and return it to a CC store).

Sometimes there are Circuitcity.com 10% off coupons floating around online. You should do a search and see if you can find a code. This player has gotten good reviews from most websites. It's definitely worth $250.

I'm working on the wife, but she's just not caving. And I even have a $25 Amazon gift certificate. :(

Does anyone know how good the upconversion is on this unit? My wife told me to go ahead and get a $250 Sony unit they had at the Sony store a couple of weeks ago, but I decided to wait until Xmas. This deal with Matrix is enough to make me go though. The problem is my main standard DVD player is crapping out and I also wanted to buy a good upconverter (maybe the Toshiba, don't want to spend Oppo money).

If this is a good upconverter (and the sale is still on Friday, when I get paid) I'll go for it.

I guess I should have waited, but I got mine the next day (free shipping) so I guess I can't complain too much.

There is no way in hell I'm going to wait in any lines this year. I wish i knew if it would be offered online at that price anywhere.

Plus, the Matrix is a tempting addition.

Josh will you let me know what you think of this when you get it. If it's still on when I get paid on friday I might have to convince the girlfriend.

Had to jump on this. I already have two Blu-ray Disc players, but I could always just sell the player to a friend of mine, and keep The Matrix on BD :)

My thinking is that Amazon will need to compete, so I'm holding off until the holidays for a lower-priced player online. I don't want the Matrix box set.

Why does the price keep fluctuating so much?

Amazon.com's pricing does that on many items. They can change by the hour.

Yeah, but why?

amazon just refunded me $15 for the free copy of matrix that was included in this deal because i preordered it when the list price for the set was ~89. this means that my final cost was $208.

Mine shipped last night. Expected delivery today. Now, the question is if the wife will give it to me now or make me wait until my birthday (december). Matrix shipped today, looks like a Monday delivery.

I ordered mine Tuesday night, the DVD player arrived yesterday....and it didn't start up, after an hour on the phone with Samsung, (2 calls, 3 techs) they said it was defective! Samsung wanted me to ship to to them, I sai dI was sending it back to Amazon and Amazon already sent a replacement, scheduled to arrive Monday (and they sent me a UPS label to ship the other back)

Matrix just shipped today....

I'm just gonna wait until Black Friday. Having all the Matrix movies on DVD plus Animatrix already doesn't really make this worth it to me.

Wow, and I've read so many good reviews on th 1500 lately. I was thinking about selling the player to a friend, but maybe I should test it out first...

I ordered it. I'm finaly on the Blu band wagon and riding into HD world. I should be watching Hulk in HD by Thursday.

Question for those who know: I looked at the dif between the 1500 and the 2500. Besides $100 it looks like the 2500 offers BD Live out of the box. In doing research before ordering it i saw that the 1500 could be "upgraded" to Live. Is this true?

Does this deal still work? Im wondering if the 2 free Blu-rays also stack on top of this free Matrix set deal. Then it would make this extra sweet.

You no longer get the Matrix set.

No, there's just 2 free Blu-ray's instead of a free Matrix set.

Yes, the latest firmware update turns the 1500 into a BD Live player. The only drawback is that there isn't enough memory onboard and you need to plug in a usb thumbdrive into the back of the unit.

Hmm, maybe that's why when I hook it up by hdmi I get a pink screen for a second and then black. And that's without even putting a disc in it. Although it does say it has the latest firmware (after updating it by ethernet).

what does BD live mean?

what does BD live mean?

Internet connectivity (aka Profile 2.0). Interesting, but I've rarely ventured online via my PS3, though I'm sure some love it.

DeputyDave
10-21-08, 09:36 PM
From what I've read you can have a movie night with friends in other locations online and watch and discus the same movie (although I'm sure you have to each own a separate copy), as well as make personal comentaries available.

I can't think of much else you would use it for and it doesn't interest me much. I guess I could see studios saving money by not providing extra content (docs, deleted scenes, comentaries, etc) on the disc, only making it available over BD Live. That would suck but it might bring prices down, 95% of movies I don't watch much more than the deleted scenes.

Damn, I'm pissed. I ordered the Samsung early morning on the 18th and it still hasn't arrived. The Matrix arrived on the 20th but they say the blu-ray won't be here until tomorrow. I know I picked free shipping but usually Amazon has things here in 2-3 days.

I guess I shouldn't complain but the thing is I start a round of nightshifts tomorrow and the next chance I'll have to even plug it in (let alone watch the Incredible Hulk and Casino Royal in glorious, climax inducing high def) is NEXT Thursday. ARRGGH!!!!!
