Borders is having a big sale for one day only in stores. They have about 90 DVDs available for $5.99. I was there and the display wasn't even fully set up with the employee putting sale stickers on the DVDs. He showed me a computer printed list of the titles in the sale.

From memory, the ones that caught my eye:

Midnight Express 30th Anniversary Edition
Chinatown Collector's Edition
The Magnificent Seven Special Edition
Tootsie 25th Anniversary Edition
Tomb Raider - Double Feature
Death Proof
The Quiet Man (John Wayne)
The Music Man (I remember the list had Matthew Broderick listed next to it, but the one on the display was the original musical)
Wayne's World - Double Feature
Death Proof

^ "Down South" :) - in fact, the Borders I visited was one of the Louisville, KY stores.

I got an email from Borders a couple of days ago advertising this sale. It didn't list the titles that are part of the sale - it just has pictures of Labyrinth (the old version), The Quiet Man, and Clueless - and it also says there are more than 90 titles in store to choose from.

I forgot to put in the original post (though it was somewhat implied by the date) that this is a 1-day sale.

Too bad it's only a one-day sale - no way I could get there. Maybe another store will have a similar sale on these sometime soon. That seems to happen pretty often.

Just saw this post an hour ago, drove to Borders on the off-chance they'd still have a Chinatown CE - but no luck.

I did get:

Rounders (SE)
Police Story (Dragon Dynasty)
Protector (Tony Jaa)
Mirrormask
Police Academy (20th Anniversary)
Clueless (Whatever Edition)
Tootsie (25th Anniversary)
Wayne's World 1 &2
Night At The Roxbury (CE)

Other titles they had (from memory):

Quiet Man, Music Man (original), Mad Max, Die Hard, Die Hard 2, Die Hard With A Vengeance, Babette's Feast, Red Violin, King Boxer, Shaolin 36th Chamber, Little Women, Departed, Funny Farm, Father Of The Bride 2, The Jerk, Godspell, Dear Frankie, In Her Shoes

Hey - Were these still ringing up $5.99? If so I'll def. pick up a couple... (def. 'Midnight Express')

I was bummed I missed out on the sale, too. But heck, if the Dragon Dynasty titles are $7.99, I'll still bite on those.

yeah i bet their sale would have been FAR more successful if they'd let people know maybe a week in advance, instead of sending out emails only a day or two beforehand.

The notice was part of the problem. However, the bigger problem was the advertisement as someone pointed out earlier indicated 90+ titles at $5.99 with pictures of 3 of 'em. If there had been a list of some of the titles included it would have drawn even more interest. The only reason I went to check it out was that I had $20 in Borders Rewards dollars I needed to use in October (or I would have lost them). Otherwise, I would have assumed the $5.99 display was a bunch of DVDs that could be had from the Wal-mart dump bin.

Oh well, glad a few folks were able to scamper over to Borders on Saturday to pick something up.

Agreed! I saw the 3 pictured and went, "nah, more crap I don;t want or already have." If I'd seen the list beforehand, I would have been waiting at the door when they opened!
