Here are the early numbers for yesterday. I gotta say these numbers are pretty surprising. Which of these top 3 films will end up coming out ahead this weekend. It could very well be the Chihuahua AGAIN. Body of Lies is probably going to be looked at as a big disappointment considering the very pricey talent involved and not it only looks like it will end up with less than $45 million total U.S. box office. Ember is yet ANOTHER in A LONG string of pricey major flops from Fox studios. Whoever markets films over there should be strung up and tortured for how much money they have lost the studio they work for. :

I might go catch a matinee of Quarantine this week. I liked [rec] so I wanted to see this version to compare the two, even though I'm sure the original is better.

Not a very exciting top ten either. Probably one of the worst we've seen in a while.

I've already seen Nick and Norah and the only movie that peaks my interest on that list is Apaloosa.

I would've thought Religulous would've still been on the top ten, but it seems Lionsgate only expanded it by a few screens, which is not surprising considering upper management at Lionsgate has gone retarded.

I remember seeing a trailer a long time ago for city of Ember and it felt like it was going to a big summer or fall movie, but it feels like they just threw it out there with little to no advertising. I didnt realize this movie came out unitl I seen a review for it in our paper

I hope next time Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe decide they want to do a movie together they read the script first. The Quick and the Dead was good though.

The Bus

Is it just me or is the current crop of fall movies getting really awful reviews? If Body of Lies, Flash of Genius, etc. were getting better reviews, I know I'd be going. Not that great reviews means a movie will be a smash, but there hasn't been anything truly "great" in theatres since The Dark Knight (if you go by one measure: starred wide releases at Metacritic).

And I foresee the same thing with W (although I want to see it) and a few other upcoming films.

At this point I'm glad to see anything Fox puts out completely tank. It's as though they've just totally given up on even trying to be successful at this point. News flash, guys: next summer's Wolverine won't fix all of your financial woes. Try putting some effort into your other projects, too.

Granted that movie was atrocious, the inclusion of The Da Vinici Code may have increased the B.O. take.


As for the above comment about FOX, the only wing of FOX that has succeeded of late is FOX Searchlight and their distribution of movies like Juno, Little Miss Sunshine, Sideways, Napoleon Dynamite, 28 Days Later, and probably to included with that list, Oscar hopefuls Slumdog Millionaire and The Wrestler.

Seems that way, but there are a few out there that have gotten nothing but raves. One that comes to mind is "Rachel Getting Married", by Jonathan Demme.

Yep, it's the middle of October and there's still no Oscar buzz for Best Picture. I foresee The Dark Knight winning Picture, Director, Supporting Actor, Cinematography and other awards I'm not too familiar with.

Doesn't look like Changeling is the next Million Dollar Baby.

^Come on We still have Austrailia, Milk, Crossing Over, The Road, Doubt, Revolutionary Road, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. All of which I think will be up for multiple nominations.
Also more than likely up for multiple Oscar noms will possibly be: The Soloist, Frost/Nixon, Seven Pounds, The Reader, Shanghai , and The Wrestler.
