Favorite classic Universal monster film?
In the spirit of the season, which of the following is your favorite classic Universal monster film? My vote is for The Mummy - Karloff's makeup is fantastic, the film oozes atmosphere, and the oft-forgotten Zita Johann is alluringly mysterious.

I recognize that others are better monster classics objectively (although I think the Bela Lugosi Dracula movie is a tremendous bore), but for me, the biggest monster will always be Creature From the Black Lagoon

Creature from the Black Lagoon...I love this character because of the costume design.

I'm shocked anybody would vote for Creature From the Black Lagoon. That movie is pretty bad and cheap, especially when compared to the others on the list.

3. The Wolf Man (very well told story)
4. The Invisible Man (Great but not quite up to the other Whales productions)
5. The Mummy (Sibling to The Wolfman)
6. The Phantom of the Opera (Lon Chaney about sums it up)
7. Creature from the Black Lagoon (The Creature endures as design and character, but the movie is typical)
8. Dracula (it's greatness comes from Lugosi and it's sets, a bit boring)

Voted other. I've always enjoyed the sequels more. Favorites are: Son of Dracula, Ghost of Frankenstein, Mummy's Ghost, Invisible Man Returns and Creature Walks Among Us.

...Seriously, though, I know it's not REALLY a great movie. Maybe it's the green scales or the creepy alien look. Maybe it's the subtle theme of man vs. nature, primitive vs. society. Or just all the women in swimsuits being terrorized by the webbed menace. For whatever reason, this clunky '50s creature feature sticks with me a lot than the original 'Fly' or 'Thing' or 'Tarantula' or others of its time...

I've always thought of Bride of Frankenstein as being overrated - for my money, James Whale does a far better job of fusing horror and comedy in The Old Dark House.

I love Dracula more than all of them, although I will admit that Bride of Frankenstein is a much better movie. Not to take away from any of these flicks, but I would like to give Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man some major love. If there was one flick that I enjoyed more than I thought I would of my unseen flicks in the legacy sets, this one was it.
