DVD Talk review of 'The Picture of Dorian Gray'
I read Jamie S. Rich's DVD review of The Picture of Dorian Gray at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=34951 and thought about the one segment not mentioned that for me stands out above all others. Toward the end of the film Gray visits a rundown pub in a shabbier district of the city. A gaunt old man sits at a piano playing a melancholy tune. Someone calls Gray "Tristan", and within earshot is the brother of the long-dead Sybil Vane (Angela Lansbury). It is because of Gray, whom she called "Tristan", that she took her own life. There is an overhead long shot of the pub that opens this segment, and it's exquisite, the moonlight glistening on the water. Very noir. I look forward to hearing the commentary on this DVD to hear what Lansbury has to say about this scene as well as the film overall.
