I can't get enough of the lyrics from St. Exquisite's Confessions:
Now the freaks want to take me home to see
If the rumors are true
So I kick open the doors and windows
Don't let the world hear
Sure, there's so much anger and pain
But come and see, there's still some gentle people

I've been listening to Tori Amos doing famous cover songs. She should come out with more cover albums. She's just...amazing.

Robert Palmer — CluesI, of course, must point out that I Dream Of Wires is not only a cover of a Gary Numan song, but Numan himself plays the synth on it. Found You Now was also co-written by Numan.
I get a text from you, saying you’re off to Havanna airport as we speak.
I start brushing my teeth.
Ten minutes later: “Sorry I mixed up the days.”
YOU STUPID FUCK,
YOU STUPID FUCK,
You stupid fuck, you need to come back.
Oh.
I’m at Arlanda airport with a famous flower in my hand waiting for you.
I see the doors opening, I see the passengers pouring out fresh like gingerbread cookies and wearing what appears to be new, funky hats, I see from a distance it’s someone I know well you’re approaching, I can see it, I take a step forward.
There's something about the song, as "cheesy" as the lyrics get towards the end (as seen above), that I just really like. I think it's more the melody than anything else.

Richard Cheese
Yes, I've been getting down with the Dickness.
listened to the debut GlasVegas album which has had positive acolades from the British press... well...hmmm.... it didn't wow me... it was okay, but not as great as the press has made them out to be. Half the times the lyrics are so buried in the music, I had no idea what they were singing and to hear that their shows are sing alongs ... that I find just baffling. The response and fan appeal is akin to the Arctic Monkeys IMO - if this is truly what the future of British music is, it doesn't impress me in the slightest.

One of the truly great albums nobody has ever heard of

Salad Days is probably one of those albums that most people haven't heard that they should be hearing. One Amazon user called it a mix between The Beatles and The Velvet Underground.

Terrible photo on that Rimes album. As for me this morning:

Easily Mates of State's best album by a long shot (their most recent effort, Re-Arrange Us, would rank second).
A lot lot of UK girl pop lately for some reason - Girls Aloud, Sugababes, Spice Girls, The Saturdays...I want my pop music huge and easy, apparently.
Oh, and

Me too. Although I threw on some Arcade Fire - Funeral this morning.

I've been so emerged into the Horror film challenge I really haven't been listening to much, started listening to the new Keane album - the bonus disc with all the songs in demo form, all I can say from listening to it briefly, uh, what happened?

Awesome, it's one of my absolute favorite albums & it's so rare anybody has even heard of it, especially to those of you that seem to be listening to similar stuff, go out & buy that album now.
That last image is The Decemberists "Castaways and Cutouts", which IMO is better than "The Crane Wife".

I should point out that their first of three "Always the Bridesmaid" singles came out yesterday. Vinyl only as far as I know. I heard them play 'Valerie Plame' a few months ago, and it's one of two tracks on this record.

Let's see,
Volbeat - Guitar Gangsters & Cadillac Blood, a different type of metal record, I call it "rockabilly metal"
The Gaslight Anthem - The '59 Sound, a good friend of mine (and music confidant) recommended this one to me. There are from my home state and make some kick ass music.
AC/DC - Black Ice, got it from a friend in the radio biz, and it was certainly worth the 8 year wait.

My friend Adam had mentioned them a number of times, since a few members are from Roxbury (I live in Morris Plains, so it is close), I figured I would check them out. I was not disappointed. Sucks that I missed out prior, I am usually pretty good with Jersey bands (since my brother has been in a bunch).
How is the Mark Lanegan/Isobel Campbell compared to the other disc? I have been itching to get that one, but wanted to read a review or two before I did.

Phenomenal, actually better, very much along the same lines but it's got a bit more of a jazz-like quality to it, which is why I like it even more than their last.

The Blow - "Poor Aim: Love Songs" Fun electro-pop. Basically the duo is just a hot girl singing silly lyrics over someone's phat beats. Check out "Hey boy", ridiculously catchy.

Again, I agree.
As for what I've also been listening to new lately...
Helios (http://www.myspace.com/thesadepicurean), Caesura
Library Tapes (http://www.myspace.com/librarytapes), A Summer Beneath the Trees
Koen Holtcamp (http://www.myspace.com/koenholtkamp), Field Rituals
Matthew Herbert (http://www.myspace.com/matthewherbert), There's You and There's Me (not to take anything away from the brilliance of the rest of the album, but "The Yesness" (http://www.zshare.net/audio/5016191618567886/) is amazing.)
David Sylvian (http://www.davidsylvian.com/), Secrets of the Beehive
Begushkin (http://www.myspace.com/begushkin), King's Curse
I guess I'm on The Gaslight Anthem bandwagon as well. I like The '59 Sound, but don't love it. Music is great, lyrics are not. Stereophonics, meanwhile, swim another lap around the toilet bowl.
