Mad Men-10/5/08-"The Inheritance"

Spoiler:
Betty visits her ailing father. Paul's girlfriend Sheila tries to convince him to prioritize his civic duties. Pete's mother disapproves of an idea that Pete and Trudy are considering.

All I can come up with is that life can be uncomfortable, whether it be dealing with parents on the wane, adoption, priorities in causes, a kid's crush, estate handling from inheritance issues. Betty's dad zings Don with a flailing swing surrounding Dan's lack of a familial past. Nice "birthday" party for the expectant father. Joan is such a ball-buster who relishes delivering bad news. Pete and Peggy continue to have strangely, off-balanced, short conversations.

I loved the awkward hug between Harry and Hildy. The show doesn't have enough Hildy in it.

Also, I for one wouldn't have minded if Pete's plane crashed (as long as Don wasn't on it of course).

I was squirming during the Betty and Glen scenes, those are always creepy.

Solid episode

Astoundingly creepy. I never got that story line last year and their little "playing house" stint in this episode was equally puzzling. Sometimes it seems like the writers are struggling trying to give Betty something to do, like the scenes at the stables. Otherwise good episode though.

I admit to rewinding back to the awkward boob grab. I was like "wha..." hit the rewind button...

Creepy doesn't begin to describe it.

For some reason i got the feeling they may do something with Don and Joan in the future. Am I crazy in thinking this?

Maybe. Maybe you are crazy.

I can't see it. Maybe if they have a flashback and let us know that they were lovers in the past but I don't think so.

Seriously--When she said to his mom, "Nothing happened," I was thinking, "Like what WOULD have happened??" Ick.

OK, I'll bite. Can someone remind me the back story between those two? Betty and Glen.

I'll spoilerize just in case.
Spoiler:
In s1, Glen's mom called Betty last minute to come over and watch the kids. Betty did and as she was in the bathroom taking a leak she caught Glen peaking in. She chastised him and he got all creepy about how hot he thought she was (and she is ). He asked Betty for a lock of her hair which Betty for some odd reason gave him. Glen's mom found out and confronted Betty at the grocery store where they said choice words to each other. The line disappeared until the s1 finale where Betty saw Glen in the parking lot of the bank. He was afraid to talk to her because of his mom and she would be coming out any minute. He has now reappeared to reprise a story line I think all of us would like to see die.

I'm pissed because Time Warner here in LA hasn't put up this episode to On Demand yet. Is there anywhere else this can legally be watched?

Loved how they ended the show with the sleep-mask over Campbell's eyes and Telstar playing for the end credits.

I'm thinking the writers during Season One didn't know if the show would continue past Season One, cause there was an awful lot of drama - like they wanted to cram 8 seasons into 1 just in case they weren't picked up again. I mean, what Campbell did to Draper, trying to blackmail him with Draper's phony identity - that's something that normally would have waited until Season 5...and now that it is Season 2, the pace is a little more "normal." Draper apparently doesn't want to throw up being in Campbell's presence...guess the guy does have a grudging respect for Campbell's talents.

I think they make a cute couple.

I love the way she told Kinsey in front of everyone. He really is a pompous twat though, right down to his affected speech and pipe.
