Does any one follow boxing who is going to win Pacquiao or De la Hoya

It's only been 15 minutes, and it's a Saturday morning...

De La Hoya is past his prime, but the size advantage will make up for that.

Pacquiao moving up 2 weight classes might take away from that freak speed he has, but he has yet to show any signs of slow-down every time he movies up.

Rooting big time for my fellow Pinoy, but if I were to bet I'm guessing De La Hoya in a split decision.

Can't wait 'till December.

All of my friends, including myself, stopped watching Boxing in the late 90's when Mike Tyson made boxing into the WWE. I can't tell you how juiced I used to get for a title fight when I was growing up. Hagler/Hearns in '85, Hagler/Leonard in '87, Tyson/Spinks in '88, Bowe/Holyfield in 92/93/95, Tyson/Holyfield '96, and then once Holyfield got his ear bit off in 1997, I think that was the last fight we all got together for on PayperView.

The Heavyweight Division is terrible, and that sells boxing, and the middle weight/welter weight division just doesn't have the star power of Hagler/Hearns/Leonard/Duran of the 1980's, even though there are some great boxers like Mayweather, etc.

Boxing lost the casual fan when it relied on PPV to sell the fight, and it lost the diehards like me when the fights became a joke. There was nothing better on a Saturday and having a bunch of people over to a watch a title fight.

I don't care but still watch some times because there a lot of fights that can be seen for free now. I could care again but its gonna take something for me to get excited.

Those are also my feelings - except I wasn't growing up in the 80's - I was already past grown-up. ;)

I actually believe boxing lost more just the casual fan when it relied of PPV.
Some people were great boxing fans, but can't afford the price for PPV. The last time I 'hosted' a PPV fight, I invited a number of people over with the expectation that they would chip in for the cost of the PPV. They came over . They didn't chip in. ;)

i agree that boxing hasnt been interesting in 15+ years

now the people that would have supported boxing are more into mix martial arts and ultimate fighting

There's more than 6 pages in the horse racing thread in 1/3 the time for boxing, and I know very very few care about horse racing.

I still find this hard to believe. Maybe if you were a newcomer to boxing and a casual boxing fan, you would get swayed by Ultimate fighting as it was gaining steam. But if you were a long-time fan of boxing, I doubt you would think a KO by the ground game would be more thrilling to see than a KO that occured by standing up and punching. That was one of my complaints when I was a fan of ultimate fighting the 90's, I wanted to see more striking. Nowdays, we do have more striking seen in ultimate fighting than ever before, but we also have weightclasses...And we have timed-rounds...And we have scorecards (A far cry than what the insiders of MMA refer to as "The Freakshow days" when damn near ANYTHING went on in the octagon. This was a complete antithesis to boxing which I had admired back then) But I figured if ultimate fighting is now set to resemble boxing/kickboxing, then I'll just stick to the action that goes on in the squared circle.

Well, to be fair, there are only 3 or 4 of us who post in there, and there was over a month due to the Olympics where nothing happened at all.

I used to be a huge boxing fan back in the day. Like pretty much everyone in the thread said, I quit watching boxing about 15 years ago. I couldn't even tell you who is the Heaveyweight Champion is right now. That's sad because I used to know just about every Champion boxing had from the lightweight to the heaveyweight division.
