Nay. I would never wear one of those "Wild Card" shirts regardless of who the team was on the shirt. World Series Champs is another matter altogether.
...does that also mean that for certain teams that finally make the playoffs as a wild card for instance, one can expect them to raise a flag or pennant to honor the achievement in their stadium?
huh?

Not sure what Swisher was looking for at 3-0 with a man on first and two outs. He seemed to be trying for a walk as he didn't swing one time.
The way the White Sox are not swinging the bats in clutch situations, they have no chance in this series.

Um, its the first inning. Anything can happen.
But the way they have been playing tells me otherwise. Boston has a great pitcher on the mound, and the Angels aren't patient at the plate, which is needed vs Dice-K.
Plus, they have scored something like 10 runs in the last 8 postseason games. A 4-0 Boston lead is golden.
I'd love to be proven wrong, but I am beyond pissed.

That's weak sauce, Scorcho. Yes, I have bitched about the Lakers before and been proven wrong. But when you get a team like the Angels that dominated the BoSox in the regular season, and then they revert back to their old ways as soon as the post season starts, it's a little frustrating.
I'd be less angry if this were Tampa Bay or the Yankees kicking their butts, but Boston again?
For the record though, I usually declare game over when I find out who the refs are for the basketball games, and when the first pitch isn't a strike in a baseball game.

Dice K looked really shaky at the end there. He tries to be the punchout man too much. Dude, a fly or ground out is just as honorable.
There are so many Boston heroes here. Youk with those two amazing plays in the 9th. Bay? Manny who? Even Mr. Drew. Still, that middle three fro LAAA scared the crap out of me every time they came up. And that triple that Masterson gave up. But then there was Papelbon.

Yeah I bet the Angels are thinking about how stupid it was for them to choose the longer series. You're giving Drew and Lowell time to rest. You're forcing yourself to have to face Lester and Dice-K again if it goes 5 and you assured yourself that you don't have to see Wakefield.

2.) He doesnt think all the Red Sox bandwagoners are just as lame as the new Tampa fans.
I can't speak for huh? on number 2, but the Red Sox 2004 bandwagoners annoy me far more than the Tampa ones. They have caused the ticket prices to jump through the roof and have given Sox fans an even worse rep than before.

I agree. Also, remember that before this year, TB couldn't give tickets away. I have been there and some of the in-between inning stuff was like watching a AA park. These fans filling the stadium with the TB gear are the precise definition of bandwagon fans.
Conversely, a guy like Twikoff is not a bandwagon fan. He was pulling for them when conventional wisdom still said they were pushovers. This must be a very rewarding year for the TB faithful. Hopefully these new fairweather fans don't push them out of the way.

I agree with you on some counts. But then again, the team has been bloody awful before this year, and the stadium is awful still. So, that's not a good combination. Of course fans are going to flock to a winner, that's a given, but as the Bucs and Lightning have proven in this area, once people latch onto them, they usually stay for the long haul, even when the team returns to some lean years.
chrisih8u
10-04-08, 06:54 PM
That's a good point. If these new Rays fans stick with them and become life long fans (even through hard times), thats a good thing and I dont think we can call those ones bandwagoners.

10-04-08, 07:33 PM
Yeah, I don't think we can be too hard on them yet. This is a team that has literally had no hope for their entire existence of even being a .500 team, let alone winning a division. If they have a few down years and the fans disappear, then have at 'em.

but the Red Sox 2004 bandwagoners annoy me far more than the Tampa ones. They have caused the ticket prices to jump through the roof and have given Sox fans an even worse rep than before. Not just at Fenway, either. When we went to the Trop in April, ticket prices for Red Sox, Yankee, and Cubs games were within a buck or two of what you'd pay for the same seats at Fenway (bleachers were in the mid $20s, whatever they call infield grandstands in Tampa were high $40's). Now, of course you could actually buy these seats in Tampa a day or two before the game, but the prices were pretty much the same (except Tampa gives free on-site parking if you have four or more people in the car).
BTW, a letter went out to select Fenway season ticket holders a few months back with the warning that prices about to go up dramatically for '09, so at least we have that to look forward to.......
