It's been almost 20 years, but watching the Kirk Gibson home run in the 1988 World Series (and his arm-pumping, limping run around the bases) still gets me. I watched a Beyond the Glory TV episode on that whole home run and the season last night (for like the third time since it came out on TV) and it got me again.

I remember exactly where I was watching that home run live and it's one of my earliest sports memories as a child. There are other Dodger/Gibson moments from that year that also get me every time but of course Gibby's home run tops them all.

In order:

Gibson Home Run
Horry's shot vs. Kings
Jordan's "final shot" vs. Jazz
Fisher's 0.4 shot - this would be much higher if the Lakers won the championship that year :(
Scott Spezio's home run in 2002 World Series vs. Giants

2001 WS, specifically the 9th inning on both sides.

I know it hasn't been a long time since its happened but the Red Sox winning the 2004 World Series always affects me.

The end of the 1996 and 1998 World Series.

2003 ALCS Aaron Boone

2001 WS. Tino, Jeter and Brosius.

2003 regular season game. Tino returns to the stadium with the Cardinals and Clemens wins his 300th. I was there, the crowd was much happier to see Tino and the place was shaking.

And in a negative way, Patrick Ewing's finger roll.

2002 ALDS Game 3 - Yankees vs. Angels - Tim Salmon's 2-run homer in the bottom of the 8th inning, puts the Angels up 9-6.

2002 World Series Game 6 - Giants vs. Angels - Troy Glaus's 2-run double in the bottom of the 8th inning, puts the Angels up 6-5 completing the comeback from down 5-0.

2002 World Series Game 7 - Giants vs. Angels - The final out.

1987 NBA Finals Game 4 - Lakers vs. Celtics - Magic's sky-hook that wins the game for the Lakers and puts them up 3-1.

2000 NBA WCF Game 7 - Lakers vs. Blazers - Bryant's lob to Shaq that ices the 16pt 4th qtr comeback.

There are a few others but those are the ones that stand out for me.

When Vinatieri kicked the game winning field goal in SB XXXVI and watching everyone run on the field, particularly when it's played with Gil Santos' radio call.

I was at game 1 of the 2005 WS and it wasn't as goosebumpy as it was last night at the cell when Thome hit his moon shot.

Not that I was much of a fan, but Joe Carter's homerun in the '93 World Series to give the Jays their 2nd championship was pretty incredible.

Hard to top winning a World Series off a home run in front of your home crowd.

 That's mine. I think Castiglione's calls in both World Series were terrible.

Miracle on Ice. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aRALJyv86eY&feature=related) I just got them again as I typed it. The entire third period was one long goosebump event, and the last 90 seconds were indescribable.

Secretariat. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cS4f6wiQJh4) Even though he had already decimated the field, he continued on, "moving like a tremendous machine" and raced alone to utterly smash the world record and establish a time that still stands unchallenged today in winning the triple crown at Belmont.

Bob Beamon. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FIgk75Jn9ZQ) Beamon's long jump exceeded the measuring device capacity, so there was a long delay in announcing his distance. When the distance was finally announced, Beamon collapsed on the track, overwhelmed by the enormity of his achievement as the crowd collectively gasped in astonishment. Afterwards, the defending long jump champion, Britain's Lynne Davies, told Beamon "You have destroyed this event."

Miracle on ice - how could it not?
1991 World Series - Puckett's Game 6 home run, all of Game 7
Laettner's Final Four shot - it shouldn't, but it still does
Jordan's Game 6 shot - classic

Ralph Sampson's crazy-ass shot that beat the Lakers in 1986.

Growing up around the Philly area:

-1982-83 Sixers where Mo Cheeks slams to cap off a sweep of the Lakers in the Finals

-1980 Phillies where Tug McGraw strikes out Willie Wilson to win the World Series

-1973-74 Flyers where they beat the Bruins 1-0 and Gene Hart says, "The Flyers....are going to win.....The Stanley Cup!"

Nationally:

-Kirk Gibsons HR in 1988 World Series, can there be anything closer to the movie 'The Natural.'

-The 1980 Olympic Win over Russia, then when they beat Finland and all 17 guys jumped on the medal stand.

"The steal" by Dave Roberts, I'll never forget sitting there with my friends and we're all going "he's going to steal, he's going to steal!"

Watching the Red Wings clinch the Stanely Cup in 1997, 1998, 2002 and 2008.

Watching the Pistons win the NBA title in 2004.

Watching my high school football team win a 4 overtime playoff game.

Watching Magglio Ordonez hit the home run that put the Tigers in the 2006 World Series.

I also root for the Browns and the Indians, but we need a what sports moments still make your stomach churn thread for those teams. :(

Gooden's no-hitter in the twilight of his career, and being carried off the field on the shoulders of his teammates to thunderous applause-- and the look of conquest on his face.
