Wow, in this day and age, how backwards is this promotion being run?

All the same, good price in the end. Maybe even better if I pick it up with Iron Man and shave another $10 off.

This deal ($10 off plus alarm clock) and the fact that it includes a DVD copy of the movie has me sold on the first Bluray in my collection. Now if only the PS3 will drop a little more into my price range . . .

Edit: Oh, also intrigued by that Buffy bonus disc. Could it contain the reunion on it? Or just a bunch of commercials?

Completely agree, especially for an abridged season.

I'll probably wait for holiday season when a lot of the year's tv-dvd releases are sale priced pretty deep.

It's actually not that much shorter.

Season 1: 22 episodes.
Season 2: 22 episodes.
Season 3: 20 episodes.

Not near as bad as some other tv seasons that missed half of the entire season (Yeah, I'm looking at you Heroes). I'll be waiting too unless somebody like Wal-Mart or Sam's has it cheaper.

Of Montreal's new album is due out the 21st. It was initially due out the 7th but the CD manufacturer messed up the packaging and the entire thing is having to be reprinted. Best Buy probably just had their ad made before the date changed.

OK, I was pretty sure it was the 21st now, but I thought that was pretty far to go with an error.

I'm a little wary of the packaging being something you can mess up. OK, so Hissing Fauna has neat packaging, but it's also kind of annoying to deal with. Hrm.

Cheers though. After the concert near me made itself clear as being $27 for seats in the back of a theatre, I kind of stopped paying (close) attention to much news from the OM camp...so the update's appreciated.

Shame the polyvinyl ultra-fancy-super-ridiculous package deal is so ludicrously expensive.

Seriously... it doesn't seem to make any sense. Open questions:

1. packaging/case... or just the disc?
2. condition important? What if it's scratched or even broken?
3. What is a "Disney" DVD? Touchstone too?

Not to mention why Disney would want us to essentially ship garbage to them... because you know that 95% of those are going to be terrible titles/bad condition/worthless. What are they going to do with them on the other end?

What's the point? That seems like a VERY odd promotion.

What's the point? That seems like a VERY odd promotion.

Point is to get you to buy a brand new dvd and whatever other merchandise you buy while at the store and then get you back in the store again later so you can buy more stuff.

They want people at the store so they can try and sell you things. They hope while you are there using your $10 gift card that you decide to buy a new tv or something.

Maybe Disney plans on donating them to hospitals and other related organizations that treat or support children with specialized needs. I take my daughter in for chemotherapy infusion once a week, four out of every six weeks (overall 13 month treatment cycle). From what I have seen, kids can be there getting treatment for anywhere from a couple of hours to all day. Watching movies is one of the joys that can make the time go by faster. Where we go, every pod has a TV and DVD player so what could be better then to have an abundant supply of Disney movies for kids to choose from.

Whether this is the case or not, I have no idea. But I can't think of a more worth while way to get a positive benefit from the promotion.

From the pictures shown at Polyvinyl the CD actually looks even worse to get into than Hissing Fauna. Lucky for me I'll just rip it and then rarely deal with the CD anymore.

$27 for seats in the back? Have they already hit that point? I just saw them not even a year ago and it was only $20, and I was right in front leaning against the stage directly in front of Kevin all night.

And just so something here is on topic, I don't see much at Best Buy this week. Sleeping Beauty on Blu-Ray would be a purchase if the exclusive was better. What the hell am I going to do with a pink alarm clock? I'm going to hold out for a better price instead.

You could give that pink alarm clock to me, dude. : ) My 5 year old daughter is going to do back flips when she sees this one.

BB had an online deal where if you preordered the Little Mermaid, Sleeping Beauty and Tinkerbell, they would also throw in a nice poster of Sleeping Beauty. Since each of these releases also comes with a nice freebie, the poster is another goodie to collect if you plan on getting the trifecta.

This sounds like a really good idea. I hope that if they hadn't thought about that before that they will consider it now. High Five!!!

It's a different venue then they were at last year for this area--RESERVED SEATING!
scary.
It was standing room, club-style last year out here, at the Cradle. I waited too long to buy tickets like a fool (weird cause I usually buy them quick).

$22 for the ticket tho--2.50 convenience fee, 4.00 something else fee.

And yeah, weak week, I agree. I'm still waiting for a decent halloween sale (though putting it near the end of the month is both logical and good for my bank account....)

No cycle though.

Thanks very much Speedy.

I figured that depending on the costume I'd either be there when the store opened or I'd be passing entirely. Turns out with the police uniform I don't feel too strongly one way or the other. Heh I've still got a week to make up my mind.

This is excellent. Everyone should also know that Disney has a rebate included with the blu-ray for $10 with a proof of purchase of the original Sleeping Beauty Special Edition DVD (From experience, they're swift with these rebates!). So I'll send Disney my proof of purchase, and send Best Buy my old Disc. This will get me the Blu-Ray for around $5!

Also curious as to what is on the bonus disc. From the list of dvd sets though, I either have em, or don't want them. :( So not sure what I would buy to get it.

BestBuy.com has the artwork up - it IS the Paley reunion panel from earlier this year. That is honestly worth (to me) the price of whatever else I'd have to buy to get it. But, since they are pricing this at $4.99 on the site and allowing you to order it separately, I don't think that will be necessary. It sounds like it's like the last Pirates of the Caribbean 3 bonus disc where you could buy it separately or get it for free with purchase of something else.

Regarding Sleeping Beauty Blu-Ray, do people think BBY will allow the use of their 10% off October coupon along with the free alarm clock, or will they claim it's a one or the other deal, or more likely a YMMV depending on which side of the bed the clerk/supervisor of the moment got up?

In store, it's available today (Sunday).

I grabbed one without buying any of the Fox tv sets you're supposed to buy to get it, hoping it would just ring up for $4.99 (the price on-line). It rang up for $0.00, so I walked out with it for free without having to buy anything else.

My store in the Bay Area had about 10 of the Buffy additional disks and they were on the shelf next to the Buffy DVDs. I picked one up and apparently they haven't adjusted the registers to charge you for it. I got it for free without buying any DVDs.

I did however buy a big stack of blank DVD disks, which are on sale this week. Some folks had noted that none were on sale last week, so I waited until this week to load up on 100 Memorex DVD+R for $22.99.

I saw that Magnum season 8 was on sale for 19.99 but foolishly left the store before checking to see if the others were on sale as well. When I got home and checked out DVDTalk, I saw that my intuition that all seasons would be on sale was correct. So it was back online to order all 8 seasons for in-store pick up. I'll pick them up tomorrow when I drop in to get Sleeping Beauty and the free alarm clock.

I also noted that there were still a lot of Iron Man busts that hadn't sold as well. My guess is, the high price, even with the gift card inside, was a big deterrent.

I guess I won't be getting it then. I had printed the web page on Sunday to use for the PM on Tuesday just in case, but now that the price has changed I know from past experience they won't give it to me because they always check the web page in hopes the price has gone back up after it was printed out so they can get out of the PM.

I had contemplated ordering it online for in-store pickup, but decided since it was ringing up $4.99 in-store that I wanted to use my 10% off coupon for an extra 50c off. I didn't know it was a 2-day only deal. Fortunately it's not a movie I care that much about. To me it was a comedy rather than a horror movie. So I'll just wait for $4.99 again... however long it takes.

As I mentioned in another thread, I couldn't use the 10% off DVD/BR October magazine coupon because of the new "excludes new releases" fine print which they programmed into their registers (the cashier even tried scanning the coupon).

I had 3 other coupons with me... a 10% off mover's coupon and a triple RZ points coupon (both of which exclude DVDs), and the double RZ points coupon in the October magazine which did not exclude DVDs, so I used that one. 4% on $26 is a whole buck! WOW!

I mainly got Sleeping Beauty BR because of the free alarm clock and the $10 rebate which was hidden in a nearby box. Since my understanding is ANY Disney DVD will work for the offer, I think I'll send in Monkeys Go Home. Even if the 10% off coupon had worked, I wonder if they wouldn't deny the $10 gift card considering all that verbage about no pricematches allowed.

On the positive side, the CSR gave me Child's Play for $4.99 even though the price had changed and I got a few of the free Buffy and Crash promo DVDs.

Has anyone found the $10 rebate form in their copy of Sleeping Beauty Blu-Ray? Could this be just a Best Buy thing since they have the gift card deal? I don't have a Blu-Ray player, yet, but I was thinking about going ahead and picking this up, especially with the rebate offers. I just don't know what DVD to send away. If it has to be an actual Disney film, I have the original Sleeping Beauty and the Limited Edition Little Mermaid that I'll have extra (since I have the PE release of Little Mermaid and I'll have this release of Sleeping Beauty). But should I give up either of these just for a $10 gift card? If they would take any Beuna Vista DVD, I have an extra Sixth Sense I'd be willing to give up (since I have the Vista version) :). I'm just not sure. But the $10 rebate offer might still entice me. If anyone has the rebate, will it work for the 2003 DVD or just the Platinum Edition DVD?

First of all..there is no $10 rebate. All Best Buy is offering is a $10 gift card if you buy the BLU-RAY Sleeping Beauty and then mail them back "any disney dvd." There is no other rebate that I could find inside the case or attached. On a side note...I hated the way they glued the SD disc to the blu ray case.

According to Ultimate Disney, there IS a rebate inside one of the booklets:

"Per long-held tradition, Sleeping Beauty comes in a black standard-width keepcase that's housed in a requisite embossed cardboard slipcover. This one stands out for providing more than half a dozen little spots that reflect the person holding it. Three items are found inside the case. A Disney Movie Rewards booklet provides a code and information on a Sleeping Beauty-themed sweepstakes. A smaller but thicker booklet holds a number of product ads and coupons, some PSAs, Blu-ray touting, and a short-lived $10 rebate for Sleeping Beauty Platinum DVD/Blu-ray double dippers. The final and most standard insert provides a navigational overview of the set, a scene selections list, and some words on the major bonuses and the Platinum Edition line as a whole."

This must only be in sd-dvd then. It sure wasn't in the blu-ray. Neither was the navigational booklet.

I wonder how it is at other places? If, somehow, they were able to keep them out of the shipments that Best Buy got, but other stores have the rebate inside, it might be a better bet to go somewhere else. I'd rather send a UPC of my original Sleeping Beauty that the entire disc, then get a $10 rebate rather than a $10 gift card. I was hoping to go with both, though.

The 10.00 rebate is in the retail DVD version of Sleeping Beauty.

10.00 back by mail when you buy both Sleeping Beauty on Blu-Ray and SD-DVD.

A friend of mine bought the SD-DVD and gave me the form out of it. You need to send either the proof of purchase tab or the upc from SD-DVD and the proof of purchase tab from the blu-ray. Plus the receipt from the blu-ray.

Either way, pop or upc you need to cut a piece out of the back cover.

This offer is not the same as the 10.00 gc from best buy for mailing back a used Disney DVD.

There's also a $3.00 off coupon for Ariel's Beginning in the SD-DVD.

Not much benefit in buying both versions to get 10 dollars back.

They are referring to the 2008 SD version, not the 2003 right?

Not at all but if you know someone who bought the dvd version and can give you the coupon AND a chunk out of their artwork then not so bad.

Correct on the 2008 version.

Has anyone figured out the DVD send-off for SB BR? If it has to be an actual Disney movie (i.e. not Touchstone, Miramax, etc.), then I have two choices to send. However, if they only want the disc, I wonder if I can get by sending Disc 1 of the 2003 Sleeping Beauty (still keeping the 2nd disc..at least I'm sure it had a 2nd disc, I don't have it on me) and putting the new SD disc in its place in the case. That might work for me.

I just sent the disc. It's not indicated on the envelope whether to send disc or case and disc. It's not really big enough for a case.

So there were mailing envelopes on the outside of the big display for the disc mail-in rebate? I didn't see any at the BB in Back Bay Boston. If someone could grab an extra and shoot me a PM, i'd be very grateful, and of course I'd be happy to pay for your postage to me.

Thanks!

No I think you misunderstand. Especially since the BD HAS the SD incuded in it.

The deal is if you bought the PREVIOUS version of Sleeping Beauty on SD, then you can get $10 back by now upgrading and buying the BD.

...although, I suppose, if you bought the new 2008 SD, theyd let you do it with that one too, but like you said, no benefit in that.

Wow, an actual POSITIVE experience at Best Buy!!! I guess theres a first time for everything!!

I went in today and picked up Sleeping Beauty and Robot Chicken S3. I asked if I could use the 10% off coupon on either and she said she'd try. It didn't work, but she manually went in and took 10% off Robot Chicken. Woo Hoo!

...of course, I also got the Sleeping Beauty alarm clock, and snagged 3 copies of the Buffy Panel for myself and some friends.

It sounds like you are saying that you can get the rebate if you had previously bought the 2003 DVD and upgraded to the 2008 Blu-ray. How would that work if only the 2008 DVD (and not the Blu-ray) had the upgrade form, as others are reporting?

No, the rebate states you need to send the proof of purchase from the 50th Anniversary DVD (not the one included with the blu) and the 50th Blu... Not the 2003.

Sorry for my misinformation then - I dont own a BD player, but had just heard about past "upgrade" rebates...
But Wow, if that's the case with this one that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. The BD includes the SD - So why would anyone have both if they both just came out the same day?? It's not like someone could have bought it before and is upgrading now!

I think the idea is much like they have done in the past (i.e. Enchanted) except that instead of a $10 coupon they have a $10 rebate. They know that people will purchase the DVD without paying any attention to the Blu-Ray (or that it has a copy of the SD DVD as well). They will see the rebate and if they are considering upgrading to Blu-Ray they now have an incentive. And for those without a Blu-Ray player this might be a good choice to purchase the SD DVD (while it's on sale this week for about $15) so they are able to watch all the features now. Then they can purchase the Blu-Ray with the $10 rebate. They might have an extra copy of Disc 1, but at least they'll be able to watch the disc 2 features, now. If they were planning on purchasing the Blu-Ray just to get the SD DVD with it, then with the $10 rebate, they will only be paying about $5 to get disc 2 of the SD DVD (if they purchase it this week) and they'll have the Blu-Ray for later. I wish they had a rebate for those who own the original DVD, but oh well.

Wow. That's stranger and more convoluted then sending in the Disney DVD. How weird especially if the bluray already has the dvd.

And someone said the DVD is glued to the bluray case? How bad is it?

obidawsn

It's really not that convoluted (though I might have made it that way). I don't have a Blu-Ray player but I already own Enchanted because my DVD had the $10 coupon in it. So I went ahead and picked it up while it was on sale for $25 (thus making it $15). They're doing the same thing, except this time with a rebate instead of a coupon. The fact that they have the DVD (which is really only Disc 1) attached to the Blu-Ray may make it seem silly, but trust me...most people who purchase the DVD will probably not be paying any attention to the Blu-Ray (not less the fact that it includes disc 1 of the DVD).

I had a simple solution for me to get the $10 rebate from best buy, that some others may wish to try. If you have a pawn shop/used movie store/etc., that sells movies you can probable find a disney movie for cheap(non animated), to use for the rebate. I was able to get a movie for $4.26. Rebate has the word ANY in capital letters.

Here is what I did to pick up the Blu ray without spending any cash!

Best buy price: $25.99
-rewards Cert. -$10.00
Price with tax =$17.07
Paid with prefunded rebate visa card
Went to used Game/movie store next door and picked up Disney's The Kid for $4.26 using store credit. Sending it in for the $10 rebate card.

Now to make it more interesting:
I'm going to sell off my 2003 copy of Sleeping Beauty which is Mint.
I may also sell the sealed bonus Sd copy that was included and the alarm clock.

So in the end, it will probable work out to being free.

Damn all of you! I finally succumbed to the peer pressure to get Sleeping Beauty Blu-ray after holding out most of the week. I'm going to use someone's suggestion and send my Stitch! The [crappy] Movie in for the rebate.

Probably need to sell off my old Sleeping Beauty 2003 DVD at some point too ... but with this economy, we'll see who's buying.

Did anyone else get 10% off their order this week?

All I did was put my copies of Simpsons S11 and How I Met Your Mother S3 and my RewardZone card on the counter, the cashier scanned them, told me what my total was, took my money, gave me my change, handed me my bag with my receipt and told me to have a nice day.

No scanning of a 10% off coupon or anything like that.

Disney's Teacher's Pet rang up used at my local FYE store for 2.99 even though it was marked higher. I had a coupon that brought it down to 2.00 If anyone needs a Disney DVD check out the used at FYE. I was worried I wouldnt be able to do the rebate.

I got mine for FREE with Child's Play DVD that I got for $4.99(online price). The clerk scan the Buffy disc and it didn't have any value, just $0.00.

You don't even have to buy anything - just bring up the Buffy disc and it's $0.00.

I did buy one other dvd, but i brought up 3 Buffy's and they had no probem with that.

Regarding the Sleeping Beauty BR $10 mail-in rebate...

When is the submission/postmark deadline? This is the first rebate I've ever seen that didn't have a deadline listed. For all I know the offer could already be expired since it's past October 11th.

Second, has anyone noticed the zip code on the prepaid envelope is 75069-9937 while BestBuy.com shows 75069-8213? I guess the zip code suffix doesn't matter..

I have the worst luck I tell you. The lady who checked me out, bought a buffy set last week just so she could get the disc. I told her to just ring up the disc and see what happens. It rang up $0.00. She said it was WRONG and wanted me to pay $5. I tried to argue, but she wouldn't budge. Neither would the manager. No sign or anything to support it in store. Website does say $4.99 though. I should have gotten it for what the register rang up.

So either I call corporate to complain or I wait two weeks until I go back and hoping they have one left. Trying it again.

I would definitely call corporate and let them know the situation, seeing as you'll probably score a gift card of some sort as an "apology" for the idiocy of the cashier you got.

But I would also just go back to BB and try your luck with a different cashier.

Too bad, I would try again though and try not to get the same lady.. I got one today, I tried last week to get one with a dvd purchase to be less suspicious but they didnt have them then, I happened to be in tonight and saw one so gave it a shot and it rang up $0 and the lady just asked "Was this suposed to be free" and I just said "yea, I guess".
