Egad! What a difference from the 1990s. So many more of these seem to be palatable. Out of all these movies, which is your favorite?
(The only one I haven't seen is Beverly Hills Cop).
I'll predict a tough battle between Empire Strikes Back and Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Tough call between Raiders and Empire, but I went with Raiders because it felt like the right choice. It's just so goddamn awesome.

Back to the Future. Good choices though. The 80's may have been the golden age of blockbusters.

Marginally better than the 1990s list, though other than Batman I can't think of a single film on this list I have any desire to see again. Raiders was a tremendously fun film though, and my ten year old self loved Beverly Hills Cop to death.

I still love Tim Burton's Batman flicks the best of all of them.

Now this is a poll I can get behind. I'm sick of these "best" polls. I don't care about best, it's the favorites that really matter.

Wow half of the choices rank amongst my all-time favorites...
Too tough to call so a coin flip between Raiders and Empire gives it to Empire.

Just like the 1990's thread I had to go with a personal favorite over the better movies. I love BTTF and watch it all the time. I love all the Star Wars films as well.
But nothing is as unintentionally ridiculous and 80's as Top Gun.
Slider: Hey Goose, whose ass did you have to kiss to get here?
Goose: The list is long and distinguished.

Tough choices indeed. Empire is definitely the best movie on that list, but I am a big fan of Top Gun, but not enough to beat some of those.

This poll reminds me why I loved the 80s so much. The blockbuster has never been the same since. It wasn't just about the special effects. These movies also had great chemistry with their stars. (I like to refer to blockbusters today as "CGI Crapfests.")
Empire is a great movie, but I can't name it as the best one of that decade. I would like to point out back in 1980 no one thought this was better than Star Wars, and everyone was confused by the non-ending.
That leaves me with either Raiders or Back to the Future. It's hard to decide because I love them both equally. (And I'm also fond of Temple of Doom and BTTF II.)
I've seen Raiders more, so I guess I'll go with that one.

Tough call for me as well, a bunch of good choices. But if all were to come on TV right now and I could only watch one, I'd choose Raiders of the Lost Ark. It would be close between that, Back to the Future, and the Star Wars movies.

I still don't. The dialog in the first half is excruciating (between HF & CF), and the sloppiness of pronouncing Han (rhymes with John) in the first half, then switching to Han (rhymes with Jan) in the second, irritating...Moby EEL... I thought it mediocre then and now... Didn't LOOVE any film on the list though.

Pre-Code films, screwball comedies, and John Carpenter flicks?
So, aside from the sporadic output of one director, there haven't been any "fun" movies in the last, what, seventy years?
That's almost as myopic as saying that all the best movies are from 1996 onward.

toss up between ESB or RotLA. i think RotLA is a little more rewatchable and hell of a lot of fun.

I thought you were asking me which films I consider to be both fun and rewatchable. Those are the "fun" films that I enjoy. I cannot speak for others, nor was I attempting to.

The 80's was when the blockbuster combined that rare aspects of a movie: good characters, good story, touch of humor, and still a fun ride that didn't cater to kiddies or people who just want to see CGI and explosions.
I would probably go with Back to the Future, as that is such a great movie. Empire & Raiders are a close #2 & #3. I was born in 1972, so I was the perfect age to enjoy these movies that came out in the 1980's.

For me it's a tough battle between Raiders and Empire, with Back to the Future a solid 3rd.
I voted Raiders because for me it's just a little better movie, but not by much.
So...
1. Raiders
2. Empire
3. BTTF

I'm sorry if it sounds like I'm faulting you but a lot of times (especially in "Post your favorite..." type threads) someone will make a snarky comment along the lines of "hey u ever seen movies made before 1980? lol".
