The Simpsons *S20 Premiere* -- "Sex, Pies and Idiot Scrapes" -- 09/28/08

"Sex, Pies and Idiot Scrapes"
Spoiler:
Homer is sent to jail after a haphazard, booze-free brawl at the Springfield St. Patrick s Day parade. When he goes to get his bail bond, Homer meets Lucky Jim and Wolf the Bounty Hunter and decides to try his own hand at the lucrative profession. The new-and-improved Homer the Bounty Hunter soon teams up with Ned Flanders to create quite the unlikely bounty-hunting duo, but when Homer s new no-mercy attitude gets the best of him, Flanders is less than impressed. Meanwhile, unbeknownst to her, Marge begins working at an erotic bakery.

Pretty good episode

Good episode, liked the Bobba Fett opening and the box of 'Day Old Wangs'.

Yeah, the opening couch gag was the best part.

Okay - nice start. I laughed out loud more than I have in recent seasons. What was that Flanders-Homer chase a reference to? Were there any guest voices?

I thought it stunk. You know an episode's bad when the best laughs are all in the first three minutes (the carbonite gag and the Irish parade). Everytime an episode seems to start to get funny Homer pops in and ruins it. The character has become so stupid by this point that I simply find it hard to laugh whenever anything focuses on him.

Is this the second or third episode that had a St. Patrick's Day parade as the opener?

I know the "Beer Baron" episode started with Bart getting drunk at the St. Pat's parade and thus shaming the town into prohibition... but I could swear that there was at least ONE more St. Pat's episode.

Looks like it's another Simpsons-less season for me. Terrible episode.

I hadn't watched in a while, but a recent re-watch of the movie, and riding the ride at Universal recently, I decided to give it another go. For 20 seasons, they still got it in them. I liked it.

Which voice did Julia Louis-Dreyfus do? She was in the credits.

I thought it seemed a little like Casino Royale, but that may be a reach.

"Did this come from a meth lab?"
"The biggest one in Springfield!"
"But isn't this evidence?"
"Evidence of a father's love for his daughter!"

Misquoted probably, but close.

I didn't google it, but it's the role she has played before, and her character was pregnant in it. She had maybe two, three lines tops.

That's exactly what it was supposed to be IMO, given the construction site and them bouncing off everything.

Not bad but not great.

I missed the opening though - as usual my recorder never gets it.

Wasn't the one "chase" scene a French Connection reference? The one at the end did seem like Casino Royale to me.

My Fox channel was having problems and was off until the show actually started after the opening credits. I always hate missing the couch gag.

Not a bad episode, though. I caught myself laughing on more than one occasion.

Yep, chasing the subway train was a direct reference to French Connection.

I laughed a lot throughout this episode, which I don't normally do when watching late era "Simpsons." Hope the show can keep the funny up.

I thought it was hilarious.

Having said that, this episode was a major rehash of previous episodes.
